"To endure is greater than to dare;
to tire out hostile fortune;

Chip Inn at "Corner of Greenview & Fry" -The Chicago Neighborhood Saloon Template

Remember: "I" before "E," except in Budweiser. James T.. "Smash" McKenna - Sage of Keegan's Pub on 10618 S. Western Ave., Pipe Coverer and Leo High School Class of 1989.

I wandered to the North and parked on Chicago Avenue; as my appointment with a beautiful woman was an hour off, I wandered these foreign streets. The Heavens opened and the tears of angels darted down soaking what's left of my once thick mane of hair as well as my seer-sucker suit from Cox's. I sought shelter from the storm.

Tucked between Chicago Ave., the Ogden Corridor, and all of the angle streets that make a south sider's head explode in confusion, is a gem of a Chicago Neghborhood Saloon - The Chip Inn. The guts of place look much as they do in the black and white photo above.

This is an ethnic working man's country club that survived Yuppies, TIFS, Urban Renewal, Ferns, and Hipsters. There is street parking - good luck on that score, Boys and Girls - and room at the bar for gents who who still stand when soaking the tonsils. That is the time-honored manner of quaffing drink in public and a vanishing exercise in deference to tradition.

On this particularly raining day, I sought sanctuary and quality sarsaparilla - both at the Chip Inn in what is called the Noble Square neighborhood. Chicago's Estimable Bar Project offers this summation:

Chipp Inn: Chicago Bar Project:

"Though many mistakenly think it's located in the East Ukrainian Village, Chipp Inn is actually located in Chicago's Noble Square neighborhood, just east of Eckhart Park at the corner of Greenview and Fry in Noble Square. I've actually seen larger intersections when two back alleys come together... Anyhow, Chipp Inn is located in the base of an old, two-story wooden building with retro brown siding and a brick façade. The few front windows are choked with neon bar signs. Once inside, you'll find a smallish room with walls of green and a gold-painted tin ceiling from which hang old-fashioned light fixtures. A battered wooden floor matches the bar that runs the length of the north wall in the front room with high-backed wooden barstools. The area behind the bar is chockers with so much Old Style and Pabst Blue Ribbon beer memorabilia that it gives even Lincoln Tavern a run for its money. Just beyond the bar are a pair of one-seater restrooms and beyond that is a tiny pool room where a game costs a very Charleston-like $0.50, and a smattering of additional seating lies across from the bar."

Chipp Inn features a surprisingly good selection of beer, with a handful on tap and a lot more in bottles. They even advertise Hamm's and have a grab-bag special for under $2. What more could you want? Chipp Inn was actually the place where I celebrated the return of Bell's Brewery to Chicago by drinking as much Kalamazoo Royal Amber as I could get my hands on once I realized they were back in the game. Chipp Inn doesn't serve food, but you might be able to weasel your way into a bag of potato chips or a Slim Jim, they have an envelope full of delivery menus ala Guthries Tavern, and there's a very good burrito joint around the corner on Ashland just north of Chicago. On the other hand, Chipp Inn does host an annual chili cook-off every November and regulars sometimes bring in food to share. How old-school is that? For entertainment, there's an internet jukebox and a solitary, aerial TV just above the Bags machine (formerly Golden Tee and bowling) in the northeast corner of the room. Jazz is featured on Wednesdays and karaoke on Sundays. The annual spelling bee held in February provides much-needed winter entertainment, particularly as misspelled words require you to take a shot...The crowd at Chipp Inn is just as you'd expect: a mix of young-ish, neighborhood Bohemians as regulars, who presumably avoid nearby Five Star, with its flashiness, and West Town Tavern for its steep prices. Cash is the only form of currency accepted here (and no ATM on the premises), but that shouldn't be a problem as the booze is cheap, just don't expect anything fancy. Strangely enough, Chipp Inn also hosts an annual spelling bee for adults every February – it's just like those for kids, except that everyone is old and loaded.

Not much is known of Chipp Inn's pre-Prohibition roots, but it is said that its legacy as a neighborhood tavern dates back at least 100 years. One can easily see why Chipp in is so beloved by those who know it, as it has everything you want in a local: a relaxed atmosphere, good beer selection, pool, jazz, and cheap—minus the bullshit all to common elsewhere. While other bars catering to the latest fads come and go, the Chipp Inn just keeps on keepin' on. For more information, you'll have to call Chipp Inn as they don't have a website.

More importantly, in this sad and staggered economy Chip Inn seems kind on the purse and pocket. There are the precious hand-crafted draft beers, but also the working man's cans of Old Style, Hamms, Pabst and the venerable Blatz! All offered below $3.00 and several at $1.75.

The bartenders were pros and amiable young ladies and gents who directed sundry inquiring trenchermen to the best Cuban sandwiches on Chicago Avenue. This is a place where Dad and Mom strolled to for a Sunday afternoon Cold One.

ObamaView Deux - To Win Back Whitey Prez Joins Justin Wilson on PBS!

In Washington Post-ABC polling, Obama's approval rating among white voters has dropped from better than 60 percent to just above 40 percent. In a June poll, 46 percent of white voters under age 40 approved of how Obama was doing, compared with just 39 percent of whites 65 and older.
OoooooWeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Dirty Rice'd Be Nice! Ra't Dis Minit!

After the Triumph of "The View," President Obama Joins Bill Alexander Painting Holiday Mountain on PBS

What did the president know about Snooki and when did he know it?

That was the headline out of President Obama's appearance on "The View" Thursday morning when he flubbed a little pop-culture quiz posed by the hosts.

"Do you know that Lindsay Lohan is in jail?" asked Joy Behar. "I actually knew that," POTUS responded.

"Does Mel Gibson need anger management?" Obama hemmed and hawed. "Uhhh... Let me answer the Afghanistan question!... I haven't seen a Mel Gibson movie in a while."

Joy Behar went in for the kill: "Should Snooki run as mayor of Wasilla?"

"I got to admit," Obama said, "I don't know who Snooki is."

Oh, reeeaaalllly? Because not three months ago, at the White House Correspondent's Association Dinner, he seemed to know all about the stars of "Jersey Shore," when he joked that "the following individuals shall be excluded from the indoor tanning tax... Snooki,. . ." Hope and Change! Wait for another UnPrecedented Appearance by the First Playah on PBS! Bill Alexander and the Mighty Brush!

David Mamet and Me - Some Things No Longer Apply

As a child of the '60s, I accepted as an article of faith that government is corrupt, that business is exploitative, and that people are generally good at heart.

These cherished precepts had, over the years, become ingrained as increasingly impracticable prejudices. Why do I say impracticable? Because although I still held these beliefs, I no longer applied them in my life. . . . I had been listening to NPR and reading various organs of national opinion for years, wonder and rage contending for pride of place. Further: I found I had been—rather charmingly, I thought—referring to myself for years as "a brain-dead liberal," and to NPR as "National Palestinian Radio."This is, to me, the synthesis of this worldview with which I now found myself disenchanted: that everything is always wrong.
Playwright David Mamet ( click my post title)

I was reminded of David Mamet's two year old piece in The Village Voice by a woman much smarter than me and in all matters my moral superior. No, not E. J. Dionne, but an Ohio-bred thirty year resident of the hometown to Mamet and me - Chicago. Closer to home David Mamet and I are close in age (Mamet is 63 and I am 58) and south siders - we grew about along 79th Street. I believe he was from around 77th & South Yates. We both swam at Rainbow Beach in Chicago's torrid summers and probably drank quarts of cold Drewry's Beer out on the rocks near the water-treatment intake in close proximity to one another. Mamet is Jewish and I am Roman Catholic. we are both children of the heroic generation that defeated fascism and the Great Depression, but, much more importantly, built the American Standard of Living, after WWII that is the marvel of human history and now being dismantled by the spoiled children of our generation.

Mamet became a world famous playwright, producer, director and film-maker. My late wife Mary and I went to his plays at Victory Gardens Theatre. I had read LakeBoat which I picked up at the old Kroch's on Wabash, in my freshman year at Loyola in 1970-'71. It was wonderful! I read more of Mamet's plays and found that he cursed and profaned like a Catholic! Nothing is more sacred to my literary sensibilities than the discerning application of tasteful obscenties in speech and prose. I became a teacher.

As young men, we could both be considered Democrat liberals. Both of us have become somewhat conservative - I remain a Regular Democrat. We tend to view PBS/NPR as a propaganda organ and generally a bore. We both seem to have returned to our religious roots. While David Mamet is a highly regarded intellectual and artist, I remain a blue collar, working-stiff, helot school teacher - pretty damn good at my craft. While I no longer teach a full load, I still have my chops and fill-in when needed.

I am not ashamed to call myself a Catholic, though I tend to be a horrific sinner. Rather, Catholics need to tell the nitwits who have diminished the Faith to take a seat at the kiddies table and allow the adults to carry on. Our liturgy, our core beliefs and our collective sense of self was corrupted by parsing Progressives and none of us bothered to call them out on their idiocies from 1964 to the present.

Likewise, David Mamet has taken the flail to self-loathing, secularist Jews who dance with The Devil in the hopes that the coming Holocaust will somehow give them a pass. Jews and Catholics have much in common, besides an artificially created antipathy. Created by Progressive Catholics and Secularist Jews.

David Mamet wrote a very powerful dismissal of childish things, that seem silly at this point in our lives, 2008. Barack Obama plotted to be President and liberal world was aswoon! I had met the President on three occasions when he was State Senator and quiet frankly I was unimpressed by Barack Obama. I backed John McCain, much to the contempt of most of my family who are rock-ribbed labor people. I felt that Obama was no friend to labor - other than SEIU and Mandarin Andy Stern -and seem to be proven correct by Obama's history of diminishing labor and shrinking the American Middle Class. Barack Obama and his camp strike me as pampered intellectuals who manage to ridicule anyone or institution that opposes them.

David Mamet confirmed my suspicions in 2008.

For the Constitution, rather than suggesting that all behave in a godlike manner, recognizes that, to the contrary, people are swine and will take any opportunity to subvert any agreement in order to pursue what they consider to be their proper interests.

To that end, the Constitution separates the power of the state into those three branches which are for most of us (I include myself) the only thing we remember from 12 years of schooling.

The Constitution, written by men with some experience of actual government, assumes that the chief executive will work to be king, the Parliament will scheme to sell off the silverware, and the judiciary will consider itself Olympian and do everything it can to much improve (destroy) the work of the other two branches. So the Constitution pits them against each other, in the attempt not to achieve stasis, but rather to allow for the constant corrections necessary to prevent one branch from getting too much power for too long.

Rather brilliant. For, in the abstract, we may envision an Olympian perfection of perfect beings in Washington doing the business of their employers, the people, but any of us who has ever been at a zoning meeting with our property at stake is aware of the urge to cut through all the pernicious bullshit and go straight to firearms.

I found not only that I didn't trust the current government (that, to me, was no surprise), but that an impartial review revealed that the faults of this president—whom I, a good liberal, considered a monster—were little different from those of a president whom I revered.

Bush got us into Iraq, JFK into Vietnam. Bush stole the election in Florida; Kennedy stole his in Chicago. Bush outed a CIA agent; Kennedy left hundreds of them to die in the surf at the Bay of Pigs. Bush lied about his military service; Kennedy accepted a Pulitzer Prize for a book written by Ted Sorenson. Bush was in bed with the Saudis, Kennedy with the Mafia. Oh.

And I began to question my hatred for "the Corporations"—the hatred of which, I found, was but the flip side of my hunger for those goods and services they provide and without which we could not live.

And I began to question my distrust of the "Bad, Bad Military" of my youth, which, I saw, was then and is now made up of those men and women who actually risk their lives to protect the rest of us from a very hostile world. Is the military always right? No. Neither is government, nor are the corporations—they are just different signposts for the particular amalgamation of our country into separate working groups, if you will. Are these groups infallible, free from the possibility of mismanagement, corruption, or crime? No, and neither are you or I. So, taking the tragic view, the question was not "Is everything perfect?" but "How could it be better, at what cost, and according to whose definition?" Put into which form, things appeared to me to be unfolding pretty well.

Obama Campfire Girls like E.J. Dionne and the Journolist Orwellians continue to bleat -

The simple truth is that the wealthy in the United States -- the people who have made almost all the income gains in recent years -- are undertaxed compared with everyone else. . . .I'm a chronic optimist about America. But we are letting stupid politics, irrational ideas on fiscal policy and an antiquated political structure undermine our power.

Tax Cuts Help Everyone - Right Here in Chicago, Too. Save the Rhetoric and Kill the Debt!

I was in Java Express about twenty minutes ago, I talked to eight well-dressed gentlemen from my neighborhood who were waiting to board the Metra for another day of job search in downtown Chicago. One guy helps identify boiler plant problems for Quill engineering and recently did an insurance assessment for two of the boilers that heat Leo High School. He has been laid off since 2009 and pick up part time work for Quill. Another was a senior accountant for one of the big firms. Another man had worked for the State of Illinois and so on.

They shell out $3.50 each way to walk the Loop for work.

All of them were talking about the lousy state of the American economy and all of them had voted for Barack Obama.

" This mess will not turn around for years or longer. They will get worse if they eliminate the Bush Tax Cuts. No one will hire and no new work will get off the ground."

One guy explained that the Building Trades have completely atrophied out of fear that more taxes to small businesses are on the way.

I raise money for Leo High School and I know that when taxes are low Charitable Giving increases. Every foundation took severe hits to income, when the economy collapsed and unless new revenue off-sets those losses, it will be much tougher to scare up donations. Take look here and see what is planned -

The estate taxes will gut Chariatble Planned Giving! Money that would have been set-aside to help inner-city schools like Leo will evaporate. Not only that, we do two mailings a year and the Leo Alumni are wildly generous, but if taxes cut into disposable income more than they are doing now hold the phone.

A guy in his late sixties or early seventies is living off of the income that he and his bride managed to sock away, as well as his shrinking IRA and dollops from Social Security. These older gents and their wives also have children in their thirties and forties who are out of work and they are sending them a few dollars. When the dollars get fewer for these generous people, Leo High School gets less income to off-set tuitions for the families Leo helps. Even Congressman Barney Frank screamed like a Banshee when he could not produce Identification to qualify for a $1.00 Ferry Ride to Fire Island, last Friday.

The Bush Tax Cuts are the latest in Straw Dog that the out of ideas DNC and the corporate Media stake out to scare and divide people.

Tax Cuts work for everyone - especially the poor black kids trying to get an education here at Leo.

The reality is that the increase in the top marginal income tax rate to higher than 41% will hit the most profitable small businesses especially hard. That's because millions of business owners pay individual rates under Subchapter S of the tax code. Today, this means they pay the same top rate as the Fortune 500: 35%. But if the 2003 tax rates expire, they'll suddenly pay more than Goldman Sachs.

New data from, of all places, the Democratic-run Joint Committee on Taxation show that in 2011 roughly 750,000 taxpayers with net business income will pay the highest marginal rate of 39.6% or the next highest bracket of 36% (up from 33%). About half of the roughly $1 trillion of total net business income will also be reported on those returns. In a stroke, that will make tens of billions of dollars unavailable to invest or to hire new workers.
Wall Street Journal

Save the Rhetoric and that 'Show America The Will to Eliminate Taxes for the Rich' that the idiots of MSNBC, CNN and the DNC are tossing around.

Tax cuts help everyone. Debt kills everyone. This I know, because the eight guys boarding the Metra at 107th Street are dying without work.

Barney Frank Tosses Hissy Fit -$1 Senior Ferry Fare to Fire Island!

Wind-Sail John Kerry docks his $7 Million yacht out of tax range.

Human Puffer Fish Congressman Barney Frank, who gave away America to Mortgage Pirates, thows a Full Blown Hissy Fit, because he wants the senior fare to Fire Island. What pipe is Barney smoking?

Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank caused a scene when he demanded a $1 senior discount on his ferry fare to Fire Island's popular gay haunt, The Pines, last Friday. Frank was turned down by ticket clerks at the dock in Sayville because he didn't have the required Suffolk County Senior Citizens ID. A witness reports, "Frank made such a drama over the senior rate that I contemplated offering him the dollar to cool down the situation." Frank made news last year when he was spotted looking uncomfortable around a bevy of topless, well-built men at the Pines Annual Ascension Beach Party. Frank's spokesperson confirmed to Page Six that his partner, James Ready, asked the ticket office for a regular ticket for himself and a senior ticket for Frank, "but was turned down because Frank didn't have a resident ID."

I am still a Democrat because . . .? I'll get back to you.

My Pontiff the Bev Rat!

I love Pope Benedict XVI - he is rock-ribbed solid on the Rock of Peter -no gay marriage, no abortions, and no woman ordinations.

He also strikes me as a good guy - drinks beer & etc. - and is a powerful intellect.

I was a bit taken aback by a photo that was sent to me by a pal in Momence, Illinois - My Pontiff is a Bev Rat!

Bev Rats are the high school aged kids who hang out at top of the societal pyramid Kennedy Park,or Beverly Park after serving a two year apprenticeship at the minor league parks ( Monroe,Crescent) in the 19th Ward and drinking Bud Lite along the tracks that run along Rockwell from 103rd ( Beverly Park) to 113th (Kennedy Park).

Bev Rats ( male) tend to wear Cargo Pants from Old Navy or American Eagle, grey Mount Carmel, Brother Rice, Marist, and St. Rita T-shirts over a carefully rolled and blessed cloth-scapular to Our Lady of Mt.Carmel, ankle knots, sandals, or New Balances and of course Baseball Caps.

Bev Rats, my son Conor is an Alumnus Bev Rat, immediately take a brand new baseball hat and strenuously roll the brims after scraping off layers of fabric to affect a 'well-worn look,' as de rigeur!

My Reply to DNC Chair Tim Kaine - Regular Democrat to DNC Variety

I used to send money to the Democratic National Committee until John Kerry wind-surfed into Boston Harbor and blew kisses to the hags and skanks in Pink "I Had an Abortion" T-Shirts.

Since then, my money goes only to Regular Democrats of the 19th Ward - The fierce and fiery Committeeman Matt O'Shea and Abortion Foe Rep. Kevin Joyce - who damanded that his relacement be eqally anti-Abortion.. I worked for John McCain, I am sad to say, as that Warrior quit the campaign when the economy tanked ( September 19, 2008) and then tried to blame Sarah Palin. I was proud to vote for Sarah Palin, because I was disgusted by John McCain's unwillingness to close the deal.

I keep getting notes from Howard The Duck Dean and Governor Tim Kaine - DNC Bundlers and moral bunglers. Case in point - When did we ever play on a first-name basis, Girls? Also, No one ever good-newsed me by calling me Patrick, Timmy.

Thus,

1973 Patrick, Greetings! report to the Federal Building at 1800 W. 39th Street for your physical!

1998, Patrick, please send a check in the amount of $ 500 made out to IRS . . .
Here's Timmy Kaine gettimg all intimate with me . . .

Quoting Tim Kaine :

The Democratic Party-----------------------
Patrick --

When President Obama promised to bring change to Washington, we made
a choice. We decided to build a new Democratic Party that, more than
ever, was focused on organizing and guided by the support of
millions of Americans from across the country.

We actively chose to take on the special interests and understood
that there would be consequences for that decision -- now, we're
seeing that bear out.

Reporters are filing stories about how financial reform is driving
Wall Street to cut big checks to the GOP.

I guess the President's plan to rein in the big banks struck a nerve.

Republicans are celebrating that fact -- even bragging about it on
Twitter. Conservative 527s are pledging to commit $200 million to
the 2010 election. With the corporate cash flowing in, they think
they have a real edge in the fall. But we have something the
Republicans don't -- supporters like you.

We need your help to offset the corporate cash. Can you please chip
in $5 or more today?
http://my.democrats.org/RemakeWashington2

We made a choice when we decided to change Washington; now you have
a choice to make with this election. You can watch the Republicans
as they raise every special-interest dollar they can find, or you
can match the level of commitment shown by the conservatives.

The consequences of this election are huge, and the Republicans
understand that. They've begun convening weekly meetings with GOP
lawmakers and top conservative lobbyists. They're pledging to raise
hundreds of millions to win back Congress. And Wall Street, big oil,
and the insurance companies are ready to do what it takes to help
them win.

We knew this was coming -- it was the risk we took when we decided
to deliver change.

But the fight is far from over. It doesn't matter how many lobbyists
support the GOP -- the Democratic Party has chosen to go a different
direction. The 2010 election is an opportunity to prove that point.
If you stand with us, we'll show the GOP that there are consequences
for their decisions, too.

Can you donate $5 or more to help us remake Washington?

http://my.democrats.org/RemakeWashington2

Thanks,

Governor Tim Kaine
Chairman

Timmy,

What do you mean We? There's no We in the DNC, Timmy! You can go have carnal relations with yourselves! Ouis! You clowns lost me years ago! I still vote Regular Democrat for anti-Abortion Patriots, but you smarmy gobshites have done nothing but kill Labor and the American Middle Class as well as countless children.

Call me and my neighbors when the National Democrat Party wakes up and sends all the half-wits and murdering hags back to the Kiddie Tables.

Slaughter at 79th & Western - Chicago's Thug Comfort Zone

Chicago police investigate a shooting this evening that occurred in a CTA terminal on the 7900 block of South Western Avenue. (For the Tribune/Eric Clark)

I turned east on 79th Street having taken Western Avenue ( I usually take Vincennes Ave.,but construction has resumed at 87th Street on the Metra turning that route into dangerous bottleneck of racing cars). Last night nine people (8 males -5 of them GDs and Vice Lords- and a woman) were shot up, though none fatal) and last week a man had been shot there at the CTA Terminus.

My son went to St. Rita High School across Western and my daughter was at St. Rita for Cheerleading and had left the area only moments before - practice ended at 8:45 P.M.. I drop her off in the parking lot and pick her up in the school's parking lot.

I work about one mile east of Western at Leo High School. I got over here a little before 5 AM. There are frequent shooting here east of Western Avenue, but now the gun madness has walked West to the middle class neatness of Wrightwood -St. Tommy More Parish.

This street 79th Street was once a bustling business strip for the largest Catholic population in Chicago. It is now, a sad strip of fish joints, sandwich shops, Rothschild's Liqour outlets and Day Cares. Gangs flourish.

I used to work at Gee Lumber on the site of what is now St. Rita's Football Field and a Korean Freghtyard. That was in the late 1960's. Where the Sharks and Mikey D's dispense fast-food to obese Americans, there once stood Sharko's a Greek family owned banquet hall and restaurant.

At the CTA Terminus, from the 1960's until the 1990's stood a diner of legend,Miss Muffet's, where CTA passengers could safely enjoy hot breakasts, hot roast beef and mashed potatoes and carrots with gravy, or grab a great cup of real coffee, in safety and some comfort.

Now, people worry about ingesting lead.

Chicago needs to cut the hand-wringing PC Horse Manure out of its diet. Chicago is a Thug Comfort Zone, so long as Lawsuit Lotto Lawyers, gutless politicians, compliant editorial boards, and race-baiting hustlers are allowed to make millions from the blood of Chicagoans.

Nine people were shot--but only one seriously--in what police described as a likely gang-related shooting Monday night at a CTA turnaround on the South Side.

The shootings, which brought Police Superintendent Jody Weis to the scene, occurred at South Western Avenue and 79th Street at 9:14 p.m.

Police sources identified five of the nine victims as gang members. Four are Gangster Disciples and one a Vice Lord, they said.

Police said the injuries sustained by eight of the victims were not life-threatening, but that one man was in serious condition although expected to survive.

No one was in custody as of 5 a.m.

Shot were eight males--ranging in age from 16 to 31--and a woman, 20, police said. The male victims sustained wounds mainly to their extremities, although one suffered a neck wound and another was shot in the thigh. The woman was shot in the ankle.

They were being interviewed by police at Holy Cross, Advocate Christ, Stroger and Mount Sinai hospitals.

Weis also told reporters at the scene that the incident appeared to be gang-related, "so I don't want people to think there's any kind of threat against people waiting for the bus or anything like that." He said police were interviewing witnesses at the hospitals.

A group of males was in the area of the bus turnaround at the time of the shooting, he said.

"It might have been a matter of opportunity that the offenders in this case perhaps saw some people that they were looking for and that it just happened that this was the time that they chose to execute their attack," Weis said.

Police did not immediately know whether any weapons were recovered at the scene.

The department's gang unit was working with Wentworth Area detectives and specialized units in the investigation. Police also requested videotape from area businesses.

Bystanders near the scene reported seeing several shell case markings at the bus terminal.

The shootings occurred about two blocks from St. Rita High School, 7740 S. Western Ave.

A CTA spokeswoman said the No. 49 buses were rerouted and the No. 79 bus bypassed the bus terminal because of the police investigation.

About two dozen marked and unmarked police cars, as well as a police squadrol and a mobile command post were at the scene late Monday.

Detectives were combing the area surrounding the terminal. Other police personnel examined video from a surveillance camera near the intersection.

Yellow tape was blocking traffic around the terminal, about a half a block north of 79th Street. Dozens of onlookers were standing around in the CVS pharmacy parking lot next to the terminal watching the police activity.

Obama Lockerbie Hypocrisy Getting Pass from Our Journolist Media

President Obama is getting the very same Jouronistic Pass (Carte Blanche) from the supine American media as Candidate Barack Obama recieved in 2008- No serious inquiry into the palmed U.S. Documents on the release of the Lockerbie Bomber ( Chicago Tribune merely tossed in thin Associated Press link); just as Chicago and the broader American Media ignored Rezko, Ayers, Wright, Pfleger et al. as 'distractions.'

The Lockerbie Hypocrisy is getting a pass from the American Media. Where is there any serious inquiry, but from Fox, and the more conservative news out-lets? Great Britain and International media are calling for the Obama White House to release documents on the Lockerbie intervention/

This is an atrocity and no distraction - forget Blago this is real:

LONDON (AP) — A newly released letter shows that worried U.S. officials warned Scottish authorities that scenes of jubilation in Tripoli over the release of the Lockerbie bomber would be damaging, and asked that Abdel Baset al-Megrahi not be allowed to leave Scotland.

A 2009 letter from Richard LeBaron, the charge d'affaires at the U.S. Embassy in London, to Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond was released Monday.

It sets out American opposition to the release. It says even release on compassionate grounds because of al-Megrahi's cancer diagnosis would be more "severely undercut the longer he is free before his actual death."Al-Megrahi was released by Scottish authorities last August. He returned to Libya where he is receiving treatment for terminal prostate cancer.

The Lockerbie Bombing killed nearly 200 Americans, as well as UK victims.

President Obama hissed out 'outrage' to Prime Minister Cameron last week and sic-ed his Journolists on BP imagined roll in the release of the Libyan murderer.

This mewling Obama appeal to intervene for a terrorist murdering thug's freedom on compassionate grounds is a horrific hypocrisy.

Blago Trial - D-Day Minus One: Tamara Holder and Jimmy Breslin on Fitzy's Case

The Adams Gents get their say and Fitzy's Team will try to compel the jurors to convict Milorad Blagojevich - Illinois's Impeached, Indicted, Tried and . . .we shall see former Governor.

Columnist John Kass, a guy with as sharp a political sense as my own is opaque - I thought George Ryan would dodge a politically concocted and played out trial, has called Blago Governor Dead Meat from the get-go.

It seemed to me that, unlike the George Ryan case for which Patrick Fitzgerald was custom fitted to manage, Fitzy pulled the trigger way too fast on Blago. It seemed to me that he did so in deference to our newly elected President.

It also seemed to me that Congressman Jesse Jackson was being staked out as the Judas Goat on this one. I am no huge fan of Jesse,Junior to say the least, but he never seemed like the porch-climbing hustler that his Old Man happens to be.

Blago? They guy was and remains a political gate-crasher and dim bulb. He was given the pie that is Illinois, because of fear of a Paul Vallas Broom-A-Palooza on politics as usual, were the Attic Brainiac to become Governor of Illinois.

my Pal,Attorney and Fox News Legal Contributor Tamara Holder, who could kick my ass the best day I ever lived, and I agree that Blago just might walk on a conviction.

Here is an excerpt from businessman Al Lewis' site Tell It to Al.com

“The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that I talk too much,” Blago said.

“This was the smartest move they could have done,” said Tamara Holder, a criminal defense attorney and Fox News analyst who has been covering the trial. “The moment you open Blagojevich up to cross examination, you never know what you are going to get.”

Holder has called the government’s case weak from the beginning. That’s more of a boost than Blago ever gave her.

When Blago was governor, Holder sent him letters pleading for pardons for some of her clients. “He left all of them on his desk when he was impeached,” Holder said.

I wish I could count how many times an editor once asked me, “How would Jimmy Breslin cover the story?”

The legendary columnist is renowned for dodging the mob of reporters assigned to JFK’s funeral and interviewing JFK’s grave digger instead.

Well, there was Jimmy Breslin, covering the trial. But there was no gravedigger for Blago.

“These charges wouldn’t get you five cents in New York City,” Breslin huffed. “I can’t smell money.”

Legendary Newsman Jimmy Breslin is long-in-the teeth that can still gnaw up a storm; Tamara Holder is long-in-the legs and smarter than the Medill School of Journalism - I think that they are on the money - Blago will walk because Fitzy can not Show Us The Money!

Left Wing Guardian UK Implies Obama Lobbied for Release of Lockerbie Bomber

When the British Left have left an American President, . . .

Barack Obama is under growing pressure to release a letter that reveals the US grudgingly supported freeing the Lockerbie bomber on compassionate grounds. ( emphasis my own)

The letter was sent to Scottish ministers by a senior diplomat at the US embassy in London last August, eight days before Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was released from prison because he was dying from inoperable prostate cancer.

Obama's administration has refused to allow publication of the letter, in which the US says allowing Megrahi to live at home in Scotland would be "far preferable" to sending him back to Libya under the prisoner transfer deal brokered by former prime minister Tony Blair in 2007. ( emphasis my own)

Although Megrahi was allowed to go home to die in Tripoli, Scottish officials believe this undermines Obama's vigorous criticisms of the decision to free Megrahi earlier this month, when he said he was left "surprised, disappointed and angry" by the Libyan's release. David Cameron said he and Obama were in "violent agreement" that freeing Megrahi was a bad decision.

The American ambassador to the UK, Louis Susman, said the US was examining whether its correspondence on the issue could be released, but he refused to be drawn on the reported memo.

Senators in Washington are now pressing for the release of all correspondence between Obama's administration and the Scottish government in their investigation into allegations that BP directly influenced the decision to release Megrahi to help its $800m oil deal with Libya.

The allegations have been rejected by Alex Salmond, the first minister. He has offered to send dozens of official documents on the Megrahi affair to the US Senate's foreign relations committee after refusing to allow his justice minister, Kenny MacAskill, to appear at the committee's hearing on Lockerbie this Thursday.

Salmond insists the documents, released last year, prove that MacAskill released Megrahi solely on compassionate grounds and had completely ruled out using the prisoner transfer agreement brokered by Blair. But his aides have told the committee that Obama's government refused to allow some material to be published – including the US embassy correspondence.

Meanwhile, William Hague, the foreign secretary, came to Salmond's aid. In a seven-page letter to the committee he confirmed that BP had heavily lobbied the UK government about the prisoner transfer agreement with Libya.

Hague said BP met the former Labour government five times in October and November 2007 over its concerns that disputes about the treaty might damage its oil exploration contracts with Libya. But Hague said: "This was a perfectly normal and legitimate practice for a British company … There is no evidence that corroborates in any way the allegation of BP's involvement in the Scottish executive's entirely separate decision to release him on compassionate grounds."

The existence and content of the US embassy note was first disclosed by the Guardian last August, at the height of the controversy over Megrahi's release, and its full text has now been leaked to the Sunday Times.

In it, the deputy head of the US embassy in London, Frank LeBaron, said the US believed Megrahi should remain in Greenock jail because of the seriousness of his conviction for killing 270 passengers and crew, and 11 Lockerbie townspeople, by bombing Pan Am flight 103 in 1988.

But he added: "Nevertheless, if Scottish authorities [conclude] that Megrahi must be released from Scottish custody, the US position is that conditional release on compassionate grounds would be a far preferable alternative to prisoner transfer, which we strongly oppose." (emphasis my own)

LeBaron said releasing Megrahi but making him live in Scotland "would mitigate a number of strong concerns we have expressed with regards to Megrahi's release."

Scottish officials took that to mean that the US had only "half-hearted" opposition to Megrahi's release: the embassy comes under the direct control of the US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, who became the most vigorous critic of Megrahi's release

Allowing Megrahi to live outside prison in Scotland was one of the options considered by MacAskill. Megrahi's wife and sons had a family home paid for by the Libyan government in the prosperous Glasgow suburb of Newton Mearns. But that option was rejected after police advice that this would cause immense security and logistical problems, and cost £100,000 a week to protect him. The house would need a 24-hour armed guard, while Megrahi would need heavy security for his regular trips for medical treatment.

To Salmond and MacAskill's embarrassment, Megrahi is still alive after being allowed home to Tripoli. MacAskill had stated the Libyan had less than three months to live when he was released. They now concede that his life has probably been prolonged from being at home with his family and receiving better medical care.

Obama White House Intervened for Lockerbie Bomber's Release - Australian News Reports!

The Amateur Hour White House of President Barack H. Obama is peeling away like a story out of The Onion.

If this proves to be true, hold the phone, Muriel!

Correspondence obtained by The Sunday Times reveals the Obama administration considered compassionate release more palatable than locking up Abdel Baset al-Megrahi in a Libyan prison.

The intervention, which has angered US relatives of those who died in the attack, was made by Richard LeBaron, deputy head of the US embassy in London, a week before Megrahi was freed in August last year on grounds that he had terminal cancer.

The document, acquired by a well-placed US source, threatens to undermine US President Barack Obama's claim last week that all Americans were "surprised, disappointed and angry" to learn of Megrahi's release.

Scottish ministers viewed the level of US resistance to compassionate release as "half-hearted" and a sign it would be accepted.

The US has tried to keep the letter secret, refusing to give permission to the Scottish authorities to publish it on the grounds it would prevent future "frank and open communications" with other governments.

In the letter, sent on August 12 last year to Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond and justice officials, Mr LeBaron wrote that the US wanted Megrahi to remain imprisoned in view of the nature of the crime.

The note added: "Nevertheless, if Scottish authorities come to the conclusion that Megrahi must be released from Scottish custody, the US position is that conditional release on compassionate grounds would be a far preferable alternative to prisoner transfer, which we strongly oppose."

Chicago Sun Times Gets It Right - Chicago is a Thug Comfort Zone

Chicago Sun Times Mark Konkol and Frank Main have presented a nearly perfect picture of Chicago's Homicide horrors - Chicago is a Thug Comfort Zone. This is nearly complete, but missing in this otherwise fine article is Lawsuit Lotto Lawyers who have made targeting police officers and the City of Chicago for litigation. Loevy and Loevy, G. Flint Taylor and the entire anti-Law Enforcement Industry at Northwestern University.

“The certainty of punishment is very, very low in Chicago, and that’s going to embolden people,” said defense attorney Thomas Needham, who was a top legal adviser to former police Supt. Terry Hillard. “It’s going to lead to less fear by the people who are going to consider shooting. That’s very alarming.”

There is the street testimony -

So far, not one accused shooter has been convicted of pulling the trigger during those deadly 59 hours from April 18-20 of that year, a Chicago Sun-Times investigation has found.

Only one suspected triggerman — a convicted armed robber caught with the AK-47 he allegedly used to blow away his boss — is in jail awaiting trial.

Three other victims said they know who shot them but refused to testify. And after Gamble took the witness stand against the guy who he says shot him, a judge ruled Gamble wasn’t credible because of his criminal record and found the suspect not guilty.

Six murders from that 2008 weekend remain unsolved. And time’s running out to catch the bad guys who shot 29 other people that weekend because there’s a three-year statute of limitations on aggravated batteries with firearms.

Odds are, most of those cases will remain unsolved. The Chicago Police Department’s batting average for catching shooters has fallen to an alarmingly low level.

Well done Chicago Sun Times, especially the always on target Mark Konkol! This is a start.

USMC v. ACLU

This was sent to me by Two-time Emmy Winner, Jazz Pianist, Journalist, Essayist and Implacable Foe of Abortion and Progressive Nonsense, Michael Moriarty.

If you look closely at the picture above, you will note that all the Marines pictured are bowing their heads. That's because they're praying. This incident took place at a recent ceremony honoring the birthday of the corps, and it has the ACLU up in arms. "These are federal employees," says Lucius Traveler, a spokesman for the ACLU, "on federal property and on federal time.. For them to pray is clearly an establishment of religion, and we must nip this in the bud immediately."

When asked about the ACLU's charges, Colonel Jack Fessender, speaking for the Commandant of the Corps said (cleaned up a bit), "Screw the ACLU." GOD Bless Our Warriors. Send the ACLU to France !

Please send this to people you know, so everyone will know how stupid the ACLU is getting in trying to remove GOD from everything and every place in America May God Bless America , One Nation Under GOD!

These comments that I recently deleted were largely scurrilous slams at private citizens . . .largely . . . and had absolutely nothing to do with the posts I published. CPD in Morgan Park -Tickets for Block Party Don't Seem Right

Aside from water in the basements, downed branches and thorough drenching throughout most of Saturday, some of my neighbors were treated to parking tickets.

I learned this morning that the folks near my house who had moved their cars off of the street where there was yesterday's block party ( the yellow police tapes were up, when I headed to Mass at Sacred Heart Church). Several neighbors were ticketed for having their cars face the wrong direction and one for parking his car on the apron of his garage so as not to block traffic through the alley.

I know the City of Chicago is broke, but this seems a bit heavy-handed. Not even the very thorough Parking Ticket Geek website offers much counsel on wrong-way neighborhood residential parking. There are many, many offerings about

1. Tinted Windows -none of my neighbors have tinted windows, though I see hundreds of Chicago cars that do everyday.

2. The Boot ( Denver Boot is applied when a citizen has three or more unpaid parking tickets) - I have never seen the boot on a car on any block between 103rd/111th Streets nor between Western Avenue and Rockwell).

3. Permits and Stickers - All have those around here.

A Patrol car from 22nd District, that must have missed the attack by three thugs on the night manager of the Burger King when that young man walked home after work on 111th Street, helped increase City Revenue by ticketing the people who had a permit for a block party on the night of that block party.

Don't seem right.

Morgan Park Heroes of Kyle's Generations Barbecue Sauce

Four young guys from my neighborhood are heroes of the American Way. The quartet who gave our neighborhood Kyle's Generations Barbecue Sauce left private Morgan Park Academy, went on to higher education, but, instead of guzzling gallons of malted grain beverages in their spare time, formed a small business.

Kyle Earman – President of Kyle’s Grill Inc.

Bobby Churchill – Vice President and Head of Research and Development Department

Jeremy Madsen – Head of the Technology Department

Nolan Bielinski – Head of the Sales Department T

I met Kyle a few months back at County Fair Foods at 10800 S. Western, where Bill and Tom Baffes had provided the gents with a booth to hawk their product.

I have been a dedicated Agia B's Mumbo Sauce Man ever since 1969, when the late Thomas Foy (Leo '70) brought a case of Mumbo to a 'picnic' at Dan Ryan Woods. I'd eat a pair of Eddie Carroll's old Tighty Whities were they properly washed and then slathered in Mumbo. On that day, in County Fair, Lyle offered his product, which is remarkably sweet . . .and offers an after kiss of delicate spiciness.

I now purchase both fine Chicago based products - Mumbo to satisfy my John D'Conqueroo Self and Kyle's when whimsy overtakes me. I find Kyle's Generations most suitable for my Morgan Pork Masterpiece Sandwich.

Thus -

Two lightly toasted slices of Nature's Pride Oatmeal Bread
One thin slice of Red Onion
One layer of mixed greens
Three thinly sliced shingles of cold roasted pork loin
1/2 ounce of Kyle's Generations Barbecue Sauce applied liberally to both slices of bread.

Friday Night Noise - The Golden Rule - Play This Quite Loud!

Some week. Reach out touch someone!

Never once, not even in private — not even as the entire corrupted media was savaging Sarah Palin’s family and reporting on the status of a private citizen’s plumber’s license — not even as the whole of the MSM was spreading lies told by the Congressional Black Caucus about the Tea Party hurling racial slurs — not even after reading what we already knew to be true on JournoList — and not even now as we watch all the hypocritical sanctimony surrounding Shirley Sherrod drip from the same MSM lips that refused to broadcast videos proving the Tea Party had been defamed by members of Congress — never once have I heard a fellow Vast Right-Wing Conspirator even hint at the idea of silencing, quieting, or shutting down the other side.

Mr. Pierogi of Whiting Indiana!

Pierogi Poem

Polish pierogi served hot or cold
Should never be heavy or taste slightly old
They should be toothsome, golden and light
And twisted together if making them right
Pirogi filled with potatoes, prunes or cheese
If perfectly prepared make me weak in the knees

Ingredients

Sauerkraut Filling:
2 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup chopped onion
1 1/2 cups sauerkraut, drained and minced
salt and pepper to taste

Potato Filling:
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 cups cold mashed potatoes
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon white pepper

Dough:
3 egg
1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
Directions

To prepare the sauerkraut filling, melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Stir in the onion, and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the drained sauerkraut and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper, then remove to a plate to cool.
For the mashed potato filling, melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Stir in the onion, and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir into the mashed potatoes, and season with salt and white pepper.
To make the dough, beat together the eggs and sour cream until smooth. Sift together the flour, salt, and baking powder; stir into the sour cream mixture until dough comes together. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until firm and smooth. Divide the dough in half, then roll out one half to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into 3 inch rounds using a biscuit cutter.
Place a small spoonful of the mashed potato filling into the center of each round. Moisten the edges with water, fold over, and press together with a fork to seal. Repeat procedure with the remaining dough and the sauerkraut filling.
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add perogies and cook for 3 to 5 minutes or until pierogi float to the top. Remove with a slotted spoon.
Footnotes

Tip
To save time, I make my filling the night before and remove it from fridge an hour before making the dough.

The Bright Young Things ( Chris Hayes, Ezra Klein and of course Spencer Ackerman et al.) formed a Band of Brummels that whipped out quills and invective to advance Candidate Obama and smear all others.

Yet the most controversial figure admitted to JournoList, the Washington Independent's Spencer Ackerman, makes few claims to disinteredness and objectivity.

Mr. Ackerman suggested that colleagues divert attention from the Rev. Jeremiah Wright controversy that dogged then-candidate Obama's campaign in 2008 by calling certain conservative figures racists.

Ackerman fits the profile of the media's new breed of "blogger/journalists" who write partisan-leaning blogs under the imprimatur of old-school mastheads. One of Ackerman's blogs is called "Attackerman," and he said in a recent interview that "passion is looked down upon in general in journalism, simply because it's a bourgeois institution. If I come across as unprofessional, oh well."
