Hugo and Get these Premiums for Sun Scribing to the Daily Worker . . Chicago Sun Times

The Workers Pal The New Chicago Sun Times- never a disappointment since Madame Commisar Reed's July 15th Manifesto!

http://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/reed/468729,CST-EDT-reeded15.article

All Hailed By the Peoples Free Press last week!

http://www.chicagoreader.com/features/stories/hottype/070720/

From the Manifesto on we have been treated to showers of homages to Lefty Lawyers (The Loevy- Flint - Locke Combine) who sue the HELL out of taxpayers and toss vitriol into the mug of Each and Every Chicago Police Officer.

Today, the Editorial Politburo kicks Cook County States Attorney Dick Devine for keeping Professionals - lawyers - out of a union. Every Worker must Fight This Devine Monarch! Good Grief!

Now, how about The Sun Times supporting SEIU's efforts to get Sam Walton, Bill Gates, Oprah, Sumner Redstone, and other 'non-orgainized' workers to develop Plutocrats Local # 1 of the International Violent Oppressors of the Workers Union. These people have rights! 'Oh, That Dick Devine Makes The Combine so Angry!'

But a Voice of Reason and Common Sense sneaked one in under the Radar!

Thought Criminal Shout Out to Common Sense Afflicted Neil Steinberg - the Man always makes sense to people who actually work for a living. Today he gives Progressive America's Favorite Commie Dictator a kick while reporting on the Democratic pillow fight between Hilary 'Chesty' Clinton and Barack 'Phat Barry' Obama over whether or not to ice out pin-heads. Neil Steinberg offers this common sense

'if only we'd treat these tin pot despots with the respect they crave, why then maybe they'd be our friends. My gut tells me that kind of sincerity only works in the movies.

It's bad enough we have the United Nations as a gilded frame for whichever lunatic dictator can make his way to the podium. We don't want to make the White House into "American Idol" for our enemies.' Good On You, Neil!

I think Neil is in for some mandatory TWO MINUTES HATE TIME in CST's AV Room: WE HATE TRADES UNIONS: WE HATE LAW ENFORCEMENT: WE HATE PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT ENAMORED WITH SUING THEMSELVES INTO OBLIVION!

Or Maybe Neil will need to handle the NEW SUN SCRIBERS ACCOUNT - New subscriptions get TWO(2) Hugo Action Figures! Like the recent subscriber - SUNSCRIBER - gent below!

Hi Ms Reed,

I read your article "Time to Move These Pages Forward -- with a Return to Our Past" and took great encouragement from it.

I don't think it's particularly provocative or earth-shaking to give a byline to yet another person with "libertarian/conservative views" -- as you've done with Steve Huntley -- but I'm willing to give you and the Sun-Times the benefit of the doubt as far as your intentions are concerned.

For that reason I will subscribe to your paper (the first paper I've ever subscribed to in my life) and I will recommend that others do likewise.

What I find particularly heartening is your realization that Chicago deserves a paper that reflects the "ethnic and social diversity of our city". But most importantly, and I hope you take this to heart, we deserve a paper that reflects our values -- the values of working people who believe in equality and a positive role for government.

Time after time in the city of Chicago, we've voted overwhelming for people who reflect these values. It's about time we got a newspaper that reflected them as well.

Sincerely,

Leo Klein
Chicago, IL

Independent Illinois Grassroots: IllinoisDemNet.com

These Hugo Action - Political Action! - Figures - will keep deep thinkers busy for hours - mapping out the ultimate mobilization of cadres of workers and afflicted until a class free society emerges! Diversity through Unanimity! One World; One Thought!

Neil - keep writing! Even if they want to try to make you Winston Smith.

Savage Bullying of Teens - Fully Funded and Progressive Approved

Nobody bullies like like a bully, who deeply and passionately believes that he has been bullied - a little corporal in Vienna, who avoided tobacco, alcohol, and bullets during WWI, found his art and lifestyle to be a laughing-stock to jeering Jews and callous Catholics and effeminate critics.  It got better.

He went on to pen a world-wide best-seller about his personal struggle and became a transcendent post-political world leader.

It gets better, unless one and others  happen to be au contraire. One can almost hear the smartly turned-out jack-booted progressive voices -Sie, nach rechts! Sie nach links!

Dan Savage* is a Chicago boy who tells one and all that his lifestyle has made him feel that he was somehow outre; well, different, conspicuously, or grossly unconventional or unusual. Dan is homosexual. For that,  Dan Savage has told every carbon foot-print within earshot, or the ability to read that he suffered from bullies.

The only human being, about whom I have some empirical knowledge, never bullied on this earth might possibly have been Swannie (circa - 1950-Present?)  Swanie lived at 75th Pl. & Honore Street two houses south of the tracks. He bullied me, Al McFarland, Terry Smith, Larry Fiscelli, Jimmy & Leo Shea, my brother Whitey, the Lutherans Dave and Danny Krieger, The Hamilton Dairy drivers, Brother Sloane from Leo,  the Two Mike Kellys, the Railroad Dicks, the Cops from Gresham, the Mercy Nuns, Clara Barton Grammar School, Msgr. Stephan McMahon, my Dad and his six brothers, the late Moose Skowron, three shifts at Donahue Steel on Damen, three shifts at Rheem water heater over by the Old Mill on the north side of the tracks, generations of Norway rats, stray dogs, and wild onions. Swannie-Invictus, intacta, et improviso

Jesus was Bullied, Moses was Bullied, St. Paul was Bullied, Oscar Wilde both bullied and was Bullied, Ho Chi Minh was Bullied - hell, he was a dish-washer in a French restaurant, Mao was bullied, and even George Sanders was bullied . . .I think.

I hate bullies.  Having been bullied I tried to be one myself  and had my ass kicked wholesomely - not worth the trouble or the accompanying shame.

Bullies hate being confronted.  I hectored, not bullied mind you, the sweet, smart, lovely and talented Tamara Holder due to my misunderstanding of her work in expunging criminal records. Ms. Holder set me straight and that is not reverse bullying.  Ms. Holder gave me what for with the facts; we be friends. Ms. Holder holds what some would call Progressive points of view.  I value my Catholic, anti-abortion, tribal, close-knit ethnic, pro-real labor beliefs.  We believe in truths; we are not truth itself; that is bullying.

This is bullying and it is fully approved by the media, government and our current Justice Department**.

A few months ago, It seems to me that in order to clear the way for Rep. Greg Harris' Homosexual Marriage Campaign in Illinois, media types took shots at the Catholic Church and Catholics because of its and their Belief that Marriage is between a Man and a Woman, because a man and woman can procreate - breed, have children.

No less a bully than Neil Steinberg chastised Catholic High Schools for not sending students to see a play at the Steppenwolf Theatre that celebrated a gay girl bullied at a Catholic School.

Mesdames et Messieurs, Notre intimident peu idiot, Neil!

Catholic schools avoid Steppenwolf play on gay student bullied — at Catholic school

Most schools have some kind of anti-bullying program, though — since schools don’t like to acknowledge the existence of sex, either (parents tend to go crazy) — most of those programs don’t actually discuss sexuality, even though half of school bullying is against kids who are either gay or seen as gay. Neil Steinberg nsteinberg@suntimes.com March 6, 2012 6:24PM

Gee, and everybody loves Wagner! The opera guy!  Wagner gave that little smokes and booze free vegan Viennese corporal paper-hanger the spirit and juice to show everyone that It Gets Better!

Why does Israel bully Old Dead Dick Wagner and not allow his tunes ( His music is better than it sounds - Mark Twain, a huge American bully) to get play ?

Must be something in Bible.

*Dan Savage was born to William and Judy Savage in Chicago, Illinois.[6] He is of Irish ancestry.[7] The third of four children,[6] Savage was raised as a Roman Catholicand attended Quigley Preparatory Seminary North, which he has described as "a Catholic high school in Chicago for boys thinking of becoming priests."[8] Though Savage has stated that he is now "a wishy-washy agnostic" and an atheist,[9] he has said that he still considers himself "culturally Catholic."[8][10]Savage attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he studied theater and history.[6] As a theater director, Savage (working under the name "Keenan Hollahan") was a founder of Seattle's Greek Active Theater.[10] Much of the group's work has been queer recontextualizations of classic works, such as a tragicomicMacbeth with both the title character and Lady Macbeth played by performers of the opposite sex. In March 2001, he directed his own Egguus at Consolidated Works, a parody of Peter Shaffer's 1973 play Equus which exchanged a fixation on horses for a fixation on chickens. Savage has not directed, produced, or performed in any productions since a 2003 production of Letters from the Earth, also at Consolidated Works, his trimmed version of Mark Twain's The Diary of Adam and Eve, which received scathing reviews, including one from his own paper, "My Boss's Show Stinks".[11]Savage and his husband, Terry, have one adopted son, D.J.,[12] and were married in Vancouver, BC in 2005.[13][14]

** ARLINGTON — Hundreds of Texas educators, politicians and LGBT activists attended the White House LGBT Conference on Safe Schools and Communities to hear about the Obama administration’s efforts to fight bullying and prevent hate crimes and to discuss local progress. [...]
Holder said the administration has “created a record we can all be proud of” in terms of protecting LGBT rights and “a sense of momentum that today we stand poised to build upon.”
“This morning I’m proud to join you in affirming a very simple truth and renewing this administration’s commitment, as well as my own, to an essential idea that no one, no one, deserves to be bullied, harassed or victimized because of who they are, how they worship or, and hear it when I say it now, or who they love,” Holder said.
Holder said the “It Gets Better” campaign is more than a slogan, but something the administration is backing up with “robust action,” like the five-year settlement with the Anoka-Hennepin school district reached March 5.

Barack got Based! Hilary is the Black Candidate! Mary Mitchell Opined!

'Hey, Keep Your Opinion to Yourselves! Get Back Honky Cats!''

Long before Senator Obama made his stirring and thoughtful announcement to seek the Presidency of the United States of America, the Clinton Carryover Campaign were hard at work getting ready to pull the rug from under the Freshman Senator from Illinois.

Last night's Democratic Debate, the site of Obama's Howard University "Quiet Riot" speech last month, might be just the pry bar to extract Obama from that podium.

More than Tony Resko's Dough Paving of Illinois Political Driveways, the Race Matters One Note Samba Card of the Progressive Trick Deck may be flipped and soon. Race Matters; Best Believe that! Yes, Sir Senator! Even you get a plateful! My opinion is diminished in this Matters Issue - read about that fact in Mary Mitchell's column of yesterday ( June 28, 2007).

Here are Chicago Sun Times columnist Mary Mitchell's recent thoughts on race relations and the propriety of a white man offering such an opinion - She and her colleague disagreed over racial perceptions of what takles place when wife killers are cuffed - One black and one white:
"I'm comforted by the fact that a lot of black people knew where I was coming from. And since white people haven't walked a step in our shoes, they don't get to tell us what our views on race ought to be, anyway.
Few blacks and whites agree on this subject. And frankly, quiet as kept, most black people couldn't care less about what white people have to say when it comes to race. "
( italics my own)

It would seem that had Ms. Mitchell cared less about what Mr. Steinberg had 'to say when it comes to race' that her column would have had a very different spin on her race bias themed column - Steinberg Opinion Free, as it were.
Naw. Mary Mitchell has a single theme.

It seems obvious to Mary 'No One Walks in My Shoes' Mitchell - which would seem to limit the impact of her opinion to the singularly angry ink-slinger herself ( Oh, well!)- that Obama is not nearly as appealing to the Mitchell's Black Base as Hilary 'Let's Get To Marching' Clinton. Mary could care less what I think. Here's why: in Mitchell logic, if you have not had cancer, keep your thoughts about the disease to yourself.;unless, you are Neil Armstrong, stay off the moon; And, all of you Non-Popes out there - keep your Parouisa and Eschatological spins on Marian Doctrine off the tablet. You feeling me?

Personal (albeit White Guy's Opinion) Aside: I work at Leo High School - 100% black young men; Catholic League; 93% in college upon graduation including Mario Bullock U.S. Military Academy at West Point Class of 2008; Alma Mater of the next Heavyweight Boxing Champion Thomas Hayes & etc.:
Deeds not Words is our school's motto. Neil Steinberg has done alot for the black kids at Leo High School - ask Leo senior and Boxer Curtis Banks.
Hilary never gave them a thought. Race Matters? Naw, Good people do.

The Most Loyal Americans of Guam - 63 years of Liberation: They Do Not Read The Chicago Sun Times

Above" Liberation Day Parade 2007
Right: Liberation Queen DeAna Arriola

The Japanese landed on Guam in December of 1941. Guam's Governor, Navy Commander McMillan, knew that defense of the American island was futile. Nevertheless, Chamorros of the Insular Guard outfitted in cast-off Navy uniforms and armed with obsolete training rifles met the Japanese landing and offered a spirited defense of the their homes. Here is an account taken from Pacific News Daily celebrating their heroism:

Pacific Daily News:

In less than an hour, McMillan surrendered the island to the Japanese, setting off two years of suffering and sacrifice for the Chamorro people.
The effort to defend the palace was futile, Ramirez said, because forces were insufficiently equipped.
Accounts from members stated that just three machine guns and 95 outdated Springfield rifles -- with the inscriptions: "Fire only in training" -- were given to share among the more than 200 members, PDN files state.
The eventual surrender of the United States came after the deaths of guardsmen Angel L.G. Flores and Vicente C. Chargualaf, along with several other service and guardsmen.
Different stories were told of their deaths, Ramirez said, with at least one which depicts their insubordination.
The two refused to lower the American flag and replace it with the Japanese flag, leading to their beheading, he said.
After the deaths of a handful of Guardsmen and more than 10 U.S. servicemen, McMillan surrendered.

Here's the link:
On this day, 63 years ago, at this very time of day, amphibious tractors (LVTs) were crawling over the reef off of the Asan landing beaches. These alligator-like landing craft carried a crew of three and fifteen Marines ( American teenagers) of the assault batallions. By 9 A.M. July 21st, 1944, most of the these men would be dead or wounded. The People of Guam made their sacrifices an intrinsic element of their culture. Would that more Americans be so blessed. Hafa Adai!
Here's our Local Culture:

The Chicago Papers and media are loaded with stories and features that divide people, race is the best bait, and undermine confidence in our traditions and values. The Friend of the Working Man - The Chicago Sun Times opines that Police officers are racist sociopaths and that government should afford lawsuit motivated lawyers, activists and criminals every opportunity to sue and harass individual officers: their definition of Police Reform.
Only Neil Steinberg has offered an honest assesment in his column of that paper. Much, Much Further to the absurdly radical left, Dick Simpson, who could not make a living without the radical network cocooning his nest at UIC, and media gigs, went on WGN yesterday and calumnized our Justice System, as well as working Police officers.
Distinguished Professor - my broad manly ass! Distinguished - marked by, true enough, an ability to smear and call it artistry. BTW-Wasn't the Distinguished Professor a defender of spray-paint taggers, while he did so little in the City Council? It seems like asking a glutton to discuss dieting strategies, WGN -might be a great sweeps feature - next year; morons.
Only Neil Steinberg and the Chicago Tribune's John Kass are actually defending police officers with the facts. (I have been a frequent critic of John Kass, but have proclaimed him to be one of the most talented writers in Chicago.) These two guys are stand-up people! When the truth does not fit a radical agenda the truth gets locked up. Thank you, gentlemen , for taking off the cuffs on the facts.
We could learn something about honesty and honor from the people of Guam - they do not read the New Chicago Sun Times.

Chicago's Pleonastic Schnook and the Science of Snobbery Against Faith

Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came.
So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe."
John 20:24-25

Religious zealotry is alien to me —but I understand that lots of people are fired up by their own creeds, and hot to impose them upon anybody and everybody, eagerly using any tool at their disposal, from little tracts left in bus station restrooms to fanciful doctrine jammed into public education disguised as legitimate science.

But this ploy must be resisted. Primarily because we live in a diverse society now. This issue lingers because not everyone has gotten that memo, and pools of fervent consensus exist — lots of fundamentalist villages in Tennessee, apparently. This encourages the grouped faithful to convince themselves that everybody thinks the same, or should. They don’t and shouldn’t. That’s why science is appealing — the atomic structure of hydrogen is unchanged whether you are Protestant or Catholic, Jewish or Muslim.
Neil Steinberg- Chicago's scornful schnook

The dimensions of the atom which forms its structure is a function of radiation power change that the atom undergoes. As the atomic component masses in a material are initially accelerated to near light speed there is a mass change and a shortening of its dimensions,(The electron orbital radius is relatively responding accordingly)
This is relative to the atomic temperature energy changes. The mass structure changes phase as a function of temperature power and the time that the radiation power that the atom in the mass structure responds to.
Never the less the architecture of the atom keeps its form unless a Nuclear fusion occurs due to extreme gravity field pressure and temperature energy changes between interaction of the atoms.

An good example is Hydrogen nuclear fusion which causes a new structure assembly into Helium atom transformation.
Some Science guy. ( emphases my own -of course)

Religion and religious beliefs are targets of bullies. You see religion is big to most folks and the end of religious belief is God and no one is Bigger than God - but science. Immanuel Kant, a guy who never travelled more than forty miles from his Prussian Königsberg, is the grand daddy of scientific zealotry, evident in our Chicago lummox's column.

Science was once the means of getting to the Truth. Science was used by Franciscan Schoolmen in the 13th Century as means supporting Faith. Muslims, Jews and Christians had a big part in this effort all the while slaughtering one another in the Holy Land.

These days people of faith are zealots, bigots, Rubes and people of science are better dressed, thinner, and handy with the babes.

Science in the West can be traced to John Scotus Erigena, Duns Scotus, William of Occam, and Roger Bacon, insular Irish and Brits - the last three gents belonged to the Order of Friars Minor -Franciscans.

All of these guys got in Dutch with Popes and Princes and it is believed that John Scotus Erigena ( Irish John from Ireland) was murdered by monks unhappy with this works on the Psuedo Dionysius, or that he gulped down the last of the beer.

Faith and science had a bumpy road, we got here.

Religion can be blamed for the Inquisition and Science can be blamed for Chernobyl.

Neil Steinberg seems to be painting with a very broad brush again - Religious Zealots, he warns, are asking that the Bible might get a mention in a science class. Chilling? Well, to the thin blooded I suppose.

Science errs. Ask the rocket boss in North Korea, if he is still drawing breath.

Religion can be a huge pain in the ass - ask any Coptic Christian in Post Spring Egypt.

Consider the words of Thomas the Twin in today's Gospel "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe." Now that is Pure Empiricism that would made Immanuel Kant plotz."Ja! Out stehen! Es bleibt immer ein Skandal der Philosophie und universelle menschliche Vernunft, dass die Existenz von Dingen außerhalb von uns ... haben sollte, lediglich auf Glauben angenommen werden, und dass, wenn es jedem auftritt, daran zu zweifeln, sollten wir nicht in der Lage, ihn mit einer hinreichenden Nachweis zu beantworten. " ("It always remains a scandal of philosophy and universal human reason that the existence of things outside us ... should have to be assumed merely on faith, and that if it occurs to anyone to doubt it, we should be unable to answer him with a satisfactory proof.")

That particular Koingsberg goof required certainty.
It is said that the citizens of Königsberg set their clocks according to the position of the gray presence of Professor Kant on his daily walk down and back the same street every day. It is said that the only time he missed his walk at the exact same time was when he first discovered Rousseau's book, Emile, and became so engrossed that he forgot his walk.

Imagine this - Kant would walk his dachshund while immersed in prolegmnas of intense import. He would return home after verifying each and every Linden tree, wrought iron fence, post and building on the route - several trees were removed and Kant could not find his way home with any certainty. It rained. Some religious zealot had to go out bring the man of science home and in out of the rain.

Dr. Samuel Johnson said, "Depend upon it, sir, when a man knows he is to be hanged in a fortnight, it concentrates his mind wonderfully."

While Greasing Up the Pole for Sheila Simon's Jump Up Over the Vote - Mark Brown Needs to Sneer.

Why people detest the media - columnists tend to sneer at readers. Mark Brown is a champ . . .spell it as you will.

Today, The Chicago Sun Times reminds everyone that Sheila Simon is a Medal of Honor recipient; Nobel Prize Candidate; Publisher's Clearing House Laureate; Needs No Skis 'Cause She Walks on Water; and was Born in a Cross-fire Hurricane!

We knew that already.

Governor Pat Quinn chose Sheila Simon to be on his ticket as Guv-Lite for all those reasons and more.

Carol Marin, Neil Steinberg, Sneedless to Say and Mark Brown waved palms as Sheila Simon rides into Jerusalem with palms waving and palms up.

Mark Brown could not praise a Progressive Scion of Illinois without a snotty crack at the MANY, MANY Chicago Helots who voted for Art Turner - I did.

Turner fared best in the white wards where people vote for whom they're told -- 11, 13, 14 and 19 -- and in the more independent areas where people like me voted for him because he had the newspaper endorsements.

We were told for whom to vote? Really? Mark Brown tosses out something to see what sticks - regularly. I forget for whom I was told to vote. Who was it Gave me my voting orders? Was it Precinct Captain Elmer Shagnasty? Was it our genial and with-it host the First Nighter? Was it the perenial favorite Speaker Mike Madigan? No, he don't speak until he has something to say. Or, was it the Aryan Nation, as Neil Steinberg suggests?

Nope, I voted for Art Turner, because he is a good guy. He's a black guy, by the way, Art Turner is like the black folks in my neighborhood who go to Mass with us at St. Cajetan, Sacred Heart, St. Barnabas, Christ the King Catholic Churches and borrow my green lawn spreader.

Mark Brown votes because of a newspaper endorsement - or so he says.

People hold newspaper columnists almost as high in their estimations as the elected officials who violate their trust.

Elected Officials -Sheila Simon has won no election, as she is a panjandrum - a career appointee - get voted out of office and some go to jail.

Mark Brown and other newspaper columnists sneer at readers. When we all stop paying for newspapers, columnists might get an attitude adjustment. Naw, stupid is forever.

Neil Steinberg: A Dip's Quips on Lip Dis-ing Dip.

. . . sort of like a guy who crashes your party turning around and complaining about the dip.
Neil Steinberg on Congressman Lipinski's vote of conviction against Obama Care.

Really? I invited the Certitude-Neutral Columnist to lunch among the helots and he rewarded us with universal insult.

An univited guest can be sure to cause no end of mischief. The mistake is in asking the worthless to join you.

Dan Lipinksi, lunch and rounds are on us!

Philly Lawyer/Journalist Honors Cops - Christine M. Flowers! Chicago Lawyers and News Hacks Sully Cops - How About a Switch, Philly?

There must be something to that idea of a parallel universe. Here in Chicago, citizens are treated to a daily litany of calumnies and charges against the very women and men who put their lives on the line to protect and serve.

The Chicago Sun Times ( and its satellite papers of STNG) and the Chicago Tribune shoo their reporters to The Center for Wrongful Convictions, the MacArthur Center for Justice and the Peoples Law Office for cookie -cutter feel good stories that uplift the hearts of people who live far,far from crime and those who commit the most heinous offenses.

The Path to the Pulitzer is assured by Trust Funded Think Tank Lawyers and 1960's Radicals with law licenses ( they actually did less harm to American society with bombs and bottles back in the day) committed to undermining any and all confidence in the Justice System.

However, in Philadelphia a lawyer and a journalist, Christine M. Flowers, has written many columns in defence of police officers and common sense. Today, Ms. Flowers offers a tribute to four police officers killed in the line of duty since May 2008 - this is Phildelphia's bloodiest year for Law Enforcement personnel since 1996.

In the City of Brotherly Love and where G. Flint Taylor screamed Free Mumia - a convicted cop killer and Boutique Bolshevik hero, Christine Flowers - did I mention that she was both a lawyer and journalist?- puts the human face on the victims of murder who happen to be Police Officers.

2008 has been the most dangerous year for Philadelphia officers since 1996, when four were killed. A prayer to Michael the Archangel, patron of police, that we don't break the record.

And even though each death is different, some brutal assassinations, others reckless accidents, the effect is the same: overwhelming grief, followed by uncontained anger.

And it's a different sort of anger from when civilians die.

Yes, it's an ugly aspect of nature that innocent children should be caught in a drug cross-fire on their way to school.

It pierces the heart when elderly women are raped in their bedrooms by teen intruders, when retired army vets are bludgeoned to death in their living rooms, when young mothers are murdered by the fathers of their babies.

IT'S A MISERABLE world in which such things not only happen but become commonplace. And Philadelphia is a part of that world.

But there's something surpassingly sad when you see men and women grouped at the entrance of a hospital, tears in their eyes for a stricken comrade. The grief that accompanies the coffin of a fallen officer is unlike any other because the occupant of that coffin met death on our behalf.

And the symbolism of a rider-less horse following close behind reminds us that - for a moment at least - the city is defenseless.

Of course, that's only a brief illusion. For every officer who falls in the line of duty there are hundreds more ready to take his or her place in the thin blue line. While no one can replace the one who has been taken, the obligation is picked up by brothers and sisters, an unbroken continuum of faith and service.

We saw it with Timothy Simpson. Stephen Liczbinski's friend took the murdered officer's handcuffs and placed them on his accused assassin's wrist when he was apprehended back in May. Simpson honored that debt. Now, tragically, he and Liczbinski are together again.

Some people complain about the attention given when an officer is slain.

Some judges think we should not elevate their deaths above "the rest of us," those without the bulletproof vests and the shields. Some citizens think that color excuses criminality, or that poverty is an explanation for antisocial behavior, or that grief is misplaced for those who willingly enter a dangerous profession.

These sentiments are heard in the streets, seen in the courtrooms, read on the letters page.

But they are wrong. Decent people understand it. The rest are irrelevant.

Four officers won't see the New Year. Four men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice for a city and a system that often seems to care more about rehabilitating criminals than honoring heroes.

And still, they keep answering the call.

No greater love. *

Christine M. Flowers is a lawyer.
Ms. Flowers writes for the Philadelphia Daily News.

In the City of Big Shoulders and Pencil-Neck Media Stooges, who get spoon fed their investigative work into 'systemic racism, brutality and corruption'sagas by the very lawyers making millions of dollars out of lawsuits against the City of Chicago, police officers are fair game and objects of continual scorn and ridicule - Neil Steinberg went so far as to smear a whole neighborhood that is home to hundreds of the men and women who protect Neil Steinberg before he gets on the Metra to his lily white suburb, as a Nazi enclave.

I'd trade a fistful of cop-hating Media stooges for one Christine M. Flowers.

CST WEASELS ARE ATTACKING OUR FAMILIES - SHARPTON AND THE JACKSONS = 'It's all Good!'

The New Chicago Sun Times is in 100% Weasel Attack Mode today - get over the Bridge in Minnesota and readers are treated to a full issue massage of THE WORKING MAN"S PAL POLICY ON SHARPTON's Shop Vacing of Taxpayers' Dollars.

Mark Brown - clips the last voice of a sane man - Neil Steinberg - with a weasel nip.
Neil took the path of common sense over the CST MINI TRU in the Aug. 1,2007 column

http://www.suntimes.com/news/steinberg/491717,CST-NWS-stein01.article

Brownie went weasel on Neil:

'Somebody says New York stuff doesn't go over well in Chicago. I think that's the idea. We don't need you to like Sharpton to take an interest in what he's got in mind by coming here.'

Calls to mind a couple of years ago, when Mark Brown insulted a young woman who ran against Mark's guy Mike Quigley - the Uriah Heep of Illinois Politics. Ms Daly's Dad gave Mark a wildly public, pleasing and paternal piece of his mind, if not an inch or two of his brogans, for that weasel attack. Quigley did OK - weasels usually do.

Mark Brown also goes after local vocal citizens guilty of CST Thought Crime and silences them like Betsy Hart - the now cashiered writer and common sense advocate launched by the Lefty Fish Wrapper!

Mary Mitchell - Angry - 'Nough Said. Mary annoints Sharpton's local shill.

Esther Cepeda gives the Salud a Sharpton in the Lefty pandering to Chicago's most populous, hard-working and politically astute demographic. Esther,
Latinos are too busy working to be pawns of the Working Man's Pal. That is why Latinos are leaving other minorities in the dust and securing decades of political hegemony in Chicago! Que Populares! Well Done!

Next, our Artistic Commisars limply underhands one in as the Daley Factor tidbit- with all the pop, zip and accuracy of George Will on baseball - CST segues the sweet science. Mayor Daley opened the boxing story at his press conference yesterday, in which he pants-ed CST Weasels smartly!

BTW- I would rather be Mayor Daley's archenemy than his boon chum - it's much safer that way - however, when Mayor Daley gets it right, when he feels like it - he is on the money! Yesterday, he was ON BABY! He's bobbin'; he's weavin'; he's light on his pins; he jabs; he ducks; he fires out and WHAMMO! Knocks the Bums on their Backs and the Sun TImes is starin' up at Lights!' Free People, or Helots. Hoosiers are Free People, for Now.

like donkeys suffering under heavy loads,
by painful force compelled to bring their masters half
of all the produce that the soil brought forth.
(Tyrtaeus West Fragment 6, trans. West)

Description

Helots - The helots were a subjugated population group that formed the main population of Laconia and Messenia, the territory controlled by Sparta.
noun
  1. a member of a class of serfs in ancient Sparta, intermediate in status between slaves and citizens.
    • a serf or slave.

I have been using this term to describe people of the middle class in Chicago, Cook County and Illinois for a number of years,   In ancient Sparta, Helots were the middle class, sandwiched between the upper class and slaves as we know the term.

In Chicago during my life time (1952-2018) there, I watched the robust American middle/working class diminish, shrink and all but vanish from Cook County.   The upper classes and their stooges ( some journalists, activists, too many labor unions, private charities) have done everything to get people who pay taxes, work for a living and live happy lives get the Hell out of Dodge.

A few weeks ago, one of the Oligarchy’s stooges with Chicago Sun Times  wrote a piece bewailing the departure of the black middle class from Chicago and positing the possibility of its return.   The stooges of Oligarchy have made Race the basis of everything, but the facts confound this lie.  The Black Middle Class is no different from the Polish, Swedish, Greek, Lithuanian, Bohemian, Mexican, Jewish and Italian middle class.  The only ethnic demographic of the Middle Class that does not get it is the Irish.

As a group the Irish serve the oligarchy with regularity and lick-spittle lock-step for the likes of Pat Quinn, Richie Daley, Toni Preckwinkle, Lori Lightfoot and JB Pritzker like no other.

This is odd because the Irish were once in the forefront of creating the middle class.  My Grandfather was. a hairy pawed union slugger in the stock yards who helped form one of the most powerful and professional skilled trades unions in Illinois.  He went from coal heaver, to operating engineer, to union official always with a job in the trade.  He was a radical Big Jim Larkin off-the-boat bog-trotter in 1912, who eventually owned a huge brick bungalow for his wife and thirteen children at 7535 S. Marshfield, saw his grandson become a Norte Dame standout and Houston Oiler, but was as equally proud of that man’s younger brother who won an ITT fellowship in engineering design, because merit was a path out of the working class.  All of his 75 grandchildren became solidly middle class citizens. Those blue collar dreams came true in the early 1960’s.

That was when John F. Kennedy became President and starred down the Communists in Berlin, Vietnam and Cuba.  Today, JFK would be excoriated as a Red-baiting, anti-abortion, Catholic deplorable. JFK would be a helot today.   Our world hates pugnacious people with moral centers.  The Fighting Irish is a logo.  Bishop Shiel is forgotten and the doughy mush Monsignor Jack Egan touted as a working class hero.  Today, a Pastor Michael Pfleger is treated with deference, if not the contempt that he works so very hard to elicit.

The Irish tend to be generous to a fault, tribally loyal and willing to be counted.  Those same gifts allowed the Irish as a group to be co-opted by people and indeologies that detest them to the marrow.  Hyde Park buried Bridgeport between 1972 and the Progressive Hegemony that controls Illinois.  Abner Mikva and Dr. Quentin Young co-operated with City Hall and County Building and roped in the likes of Tom Hynes, Neil Hartigan and the young Daleys.  The Media, 501(c) # Fortunes and IVI-Good Government cache no longer assaulted The Machine.

Mike Madigan understood that Ward power was over and played cent-field with Hyde Park.  The Irish fought no one and became most congenial.

The Congenial Irish took the path of least resistance and all but erased the verbal fighting from their political, religious and moral lexicon.  The Irish got behind Neil Hartigan and went soft on abortion to the point that a mushy mope like Senator Dick Durbin walks publicly in a green sash.

The Irish of the tail-end of the 20th Century get behind “great gals and guys” who take the coin, the endorsement and condescension of people who detest everything about being Irish.

As such, huge voting blocks in neighborhoods in the 19th Ward have helped put shackles on the Irish and any ethnic group that marries into their flabby embrace.

The Irish retain political influence in Cook County and Illinois because the Irish, as a group, go-along with the great enthusiasm.

As a result, the middle class is being eliminated.  Why?  The middle class is anathema to the Oligarchy who blend Marxism with kleptomania.

Cook County is Animal Farm.  Pigs get fat and everyone else gets slaughtered.

Shunning, slogans, group hate and the daffy doings of the Bears and Cubbies numb middle class families  that still remain within the borders of the City and the State.  Like blacks and sharecroppers in the post-Reconstruction American South, the middle class suffer the same burdens hoisted upon their backs by Richie Daleys, Rahm Emanuel, Bruce Rauner and now the completely supine Lori Lightfoot.

Individuals finally get a bellyful. I planned to move out of Illinois and found a home in Michigan City, Indiana.   Alas, my children will continue to live in Illinois.

All three were born outside of Cook County, but all three love being close to cousins, aunts and uncles and grandma, as did I.

I can visit.  They own homes.

Hoosiers have resisted the harness.  The news papers have no reliable stooges, but report on public affairs and actually have local high school sports data and stories,  One might mark the end of freedom in Illinois from the time that the sports pages became propaganda for lovable losers and the milquetoasts of the Midway,

More significantly, the newspapers are independent and a MEDIA.  There are no self-absorbed stooges like Eric Zorn, Fran Spielman, Carol Marin, Michael Sneed, Rex Hupke, or the appalling Mary Schmich.

Politically, there is not a huge block of Woke Millennial Irish to wrap Progressive initiatives like abortion in corned beef and cabbage.

The editorial boards are not lickspittles for City Hall.  In fact, today’s. headline screams this:

La PORTE – Just days before the election, felony charges were filed against Michigan City Mayor Ron Meer for his actions following the arrest of his stepson earlier this month, but no judge has yet agreed to conduct a probable cause hearing.Court records show that on Wednesday – under seal – the La Porte County Prosecutor's Office charged Meer with one felony count of official misconduct; five felony counts of intimidation; and two misdemeanor counts of false informing resulting in substantial hindrance to law enforcement.
The charges were initially filed in Superior Court 4, but Judge Greta Stirling Friedman recused herself from "even finding probable cause on the basis that, among other reasons, the Judge's spouse, whose employment caused him to be included on an email chain and could potentially lead to his being a witness in this matter," according to court records.

No Bruce Dold, Chicago Tribune managing editor could spike the story.  No team of Yahoos like Mark Brown, Neil Steinberg, or Mary Mitchel could blare out distraction yarns of Racism, or Yellow Corn.

Days before election Mayor Ron needs to gussie-up his resume.  I spoke with Michigan Citizens and some like what Mayor Meer has done for the downtown area and others said that he was jerk when they worked for him in City Government.   Everyone has a vote and it is not for barter.

I don’t have a dog in the fight and look forward to election day.

Hoosiers are not helots - yet.

Courtney Greve of the Daily Southtown Makes the Ordinary Extraordinary

For a number of years, The Daily Southtown - the absolute best Chicago source for the real news - has been blessed by the talents of Courteny Greve.

Recently, Courtney Greve joined Phil Kadner as a columnist who accurately reflects the events and the people who shape those events. The great Neil Steinberg explained the role of the columnist to a gathering at the Michigan City Library on Saturday September 15th that as a writer he tries to find the 'something' in a story that brings what is extraordinary to life and gave the example of a chicken processing plant where a woman would cut chicken breast fillets to the near exact 1/4 pound specifications without the use of a scale. Her art developed through practice. Courtney Greve is giving journalism an equally measured cut from life.

Today's Courtney Greve column is a masterpiece of practiced and measured presentation.

In a story about the Cook County Sheriff's Agricultural Program's Mike Taff - a wonderful man who helps convicts develop skills beyond the horrific realities of their confinement ( shank manufacturing and toilet distillation liqours) that take them into possiblities beyond CCDOC - Courtney Greve cuts a true masterpiece:

Taff, 55, is the project coordinator for the Cook County Jail garden. The program teaches nonviolent offenders in the sheriff's Department of Community Supervision and Intervention how to till, plant and weed.

Perhaps more importantly, it teaches inmates skills such as perseverance, teamwork and compassion.

"(The garden offers) a little bit of serenity where they can review their life and figure out how they can make it better," he said.

Taff stumbled into the job. After he retired from Chicago's building department, he decided to switch gears.

"I have six kids still at home, so I had to go to work," he said.

Taff and his wife, Katie, a former FBI employee, are the parents of Michael, Emily, Sara, Connor, Hannah and Natalie, ages 9 to 24.

"Besides, I made Katie a promise," he continued. "I said, 'The day you get pregnant, you never have to work another day in your life.' I'm keeping that promise."

The former Army police officer hoped to work in law enforcement.

"I loved the military and always wanted to be a policeman," he said. "This was the closest thing I could get to working with policemen."

Taff started working for the sheriff's department in 2004. About a year into the gig, he was asked to lead the garden program. The closest he had come to gardening was his parents' blueberry farm in Saugatuck, Mich.

"It was sink or swim," he said.

Taff took a 10-week master gardener course through the University of Illinois Extension Service, based at the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences in the Mount Greenwood community.

This season, a record number of inmates - 32, up from 14 - completed the same certificate program. Three more are planning to take the exam in October.

"This garden changes lives and lifestyles," Taff said. "They can get out of here, become a good citizen, have a trade and get a job."

So far this season, about 4,500 pounds of produce were harvested by inmates and donated to soup kitchens, senior citizen centers and other charity organizations in places such as Robbins and the city's Roseland community.

A cornucopia of crops still need to be picked - pumpkins, eggplant, tomatoes, squash, peppers and collard greens.

"We spread this (bounty) around the entire county," Taff said.

The inmates are not allowed to bring any of the food they've grown inside the jail, but they do get to sample the goods during their shifts.

Taff is pleased with the garden's success, but he has plans to make it better.

"A project stays ordinary unless you bring something new into it," he said.

There is a waterfall of writers who fill up pages of words cut to someone else's agenda and specifications, but there are a few gifted craftsmen - Steinberg, Kadner, Greve, McGrath, Kass and Boston Globe's McGrory - who really cut, trim and present a masterpiece.

Journalism has hope with Courtney Greve!
