Brian Egan -Christ's Good Man Goes Home

Jack, Nora, Pat, Bridget and Brian Egan of St. Cajetan's Parish

I met Brian Egan through St. Cajetan Parish and Kennedy Park activities.  My son played St. Caj football with Jack Egan who was a year older than Conor and my youngest daughter remains very close with Nora with whom Clare went through Three of Seven Sacraments, Pre-K, T-Ball, Soccer, Softball, Basketball and the rigors of eight years of Catholic grammar school on the south side of Chicago. No easy task that.  Brian Egan had their little backs.

All through those years, Brian Egan stood on the sidelines, in the stands and in the dugouts, knelt in the pew and supported not only his babies, but every youngster with his coaching skills which were formidable, his encouragement which was genuine and his love which was never turned off at anytime.

His beautiful daughter Bridget suffered with disease and Brian Egan had her shoulders locked in his grip. His lovely wife Pat had a guy who worshiped the sand, clay and blades of freshly cut Chicago Park District grass in and under her sandals.  Brian Egan, like most south side guys I know,  was life-long overwhelmed by the love of his girlfriend, bride and partner.  Well we should.

Brian Egan was too tall a man to cast a shadow.  I am heartbroken with his passing from our company but comforted that God has a great coach, neighbor and role model for His Saints.  Brian Egan now makes a 'better place' a happier one.

Thanks for being there for all of us, Brian!

Blizzard February 02, 2011 - 108th and Rockwell -CPD and CFD Neighbors Went to Work!

Hickey of Rockwell -“with his broad and jetty eyebrows; his square forehead, made squarer by the horizontal sweep of his black hair. I recognised his decisive nose, more remarkable for character than beauty; his full nostrils, denoting, I thought, choler; his grim mouth, chin, and jaw—yes, all three were very grim, and no mistake. His shape, now divested of cloak, I perceived harmonised in squareness with his physiognomy”

My neighbors, Sgt. Stan Salabura, CPD and Jimmy Foster CFD, did all they could to get to work for us on this snow packed and gale force winndy day - The Blizzard of 2011. Young Brian Hogan of the 107th & Maplewood block used a snow-mobile with a plow attachment to open 108th and 107th Streets at about 5 AM this morning. My son Conor and I are digging out our way to the garage in order to fire up the mighty MTD snowplow. We will be at it all day.

Firefighter Jimmy Foster is a member of the House that lost two heroes - Corey Ankum and Edward Stringer - on December 22nd. Sgt. Stan Salabura is the head of Area 2 Violent Crimes Division - his beautiful bride Becky (stunning in Red and Snow!), Vice- Principal of St. Cajetan Grammar School was out seeing Stan off. These are our 1st Responders. Nothing stops them.

I, on the hand, get distracted brushing my teeth and find no task too important not to find an excuse to make a tub of hot buttered popcorn and watch vintage Japanese monster movies.

Beautiful Bridget Egan Fights Cancer With a Crowd of Neighbors This Saturday at Bourbon Street

Thanks to Jim McMahon! If it helps people, the word is spread by neighborhood firefighting hero, Lt. Jim McMahon!

Bridget Egan, daughter of Brian and Pat and sister of Jack and Nora, is a St. Cajetan's Girl and beautiful young woman. Bridget is a fixture at Kennedy Park helping girls warm up their pitching arms and encouraging little ladies to do their best. Let's get out and warm-up our pitching arms for Bridget.

Bridget was diagnosed with stage 3 Adeno Carcinoma in May 2010 that had spread to her left and right lymph nodes - a very rare form of the cancer. Bridget decided to pursue her treatment at the University of Chicago. She is pushing through her last few weeks of chemo and radiation and gets to go home the week of Thanksgiving – with a lot to be thankful for.

Needless to say, Bridget has had a long, hard, painful last few months and more lies ahead of her. And, as to be expected, she has kept everyone laughing and positive through it all. I do not have to tell all of you how truly incredible Bridget is. She is absolutely bursting with love every day of her life- lighthearted, open, and genuine. She has always been so eager to help others and now it is our turn to show her how truly loved and appreciated she is!
