McGee, who spent three years in prison, was to face the death penalty in the murder of Ethel Perstlen, 76.

Detective Edward Farley, Detective Robert Lenihan and Officer Robert Bartik fabricated a confession from McGee that was not written, audiotaped or videotaped, the lawyers added.

It seems to me that Jon Loevy is just about the only really aggressive Police suing lawyer in the business. Marxist Millionaire G. Flint Taylor is a whole other hairball - he has Burge Industries. But Jon Loevy seems to be the Bill Gates of Police Lawsuits. He files suit and cities settle - no muss and no fuss.

ROY, Mich., June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- A class action lawsuit alleging that the Detroit Police Department (DPD) systematically abused and mistreated arrestees was filed on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 in the United States Federal Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The suit, Jonathan Brown, et al v. City of Detroit, was filed by the Chicago law firm of Loevy & Loevy and the Troy, Michigan law firm of Frank, Haron, Weiner & Navarro. The suit alleges that thousands of individuals were arrested and denied basic constitutional rights by the DPD from May 27, 2007 through the present date. A similar class action lawsuit against the Chicago Police Department recently settled for $16.5 million.
Specifically, the complaint alleges that the DPD engaged in a repeated pattern of detaining individuals for long periods of time – often in excess of 48 hours – without allowing them access to a judge. These individuals were denied food, water, and sleep during their detentions. The complaint charges that these inhumane conditions were often used to obtain false confessions from suspects, while genuine perpetrators were left free to continue committing crimes.
The suit has three classes of plaintiffs. Class one is comprised of thousands of people who were detained by the DPD overnight or for more than 16 hours in a 24-hour period and who were deprived of basic human needs for rest and hygiene. Plaintiffs in the second class were arrested by the DPD and detained in excess of 48 hours without a judicial determination of probable cause. The third group of plaintiffs consists of individuals detained by the DPD in excess of 24 hours without being provided at least two meals.

CROWN POINT | Lake County Jail officials and plaintiffs in a federal lawsuit alleging medical and other mistreatment in the jail failed for the second time Wednesday to reach a settlement in the two-year-old case.
Loevy & Loevy, the Chicago law firm representing the plaintiffs, is seeking the court's approval of a class action lawsuit in which the complaints mirror many of the findings by the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division.
The government's report, released in December, disclosed conditions the DOJ found to be in violation of inmates' constitutional rights. Jail officials released their response to the findings in May along with a plan to meet the concerns.
The federal lawsuit was filed in May 2008, prior to the DOJ investigation, which was launched in September. Since the lawsuit was filed, Loevy & Loevy attorneys have said the number of jail detainees with similar complaints has grown to more than 100 from the original seven.
The nearly daylong settlement conference Wednesday, the second since February, failed to resolve the lawsuit.

John (Jack) Ketch (died 1686) was an English executioner employed by King Charles II. An immigrant of Irish extraction, he became famous through the way he performed his duties during the tumults of the 1680s, when he was often mentioned in broadsheet accounts that circulated throughout the Kingdom of England. He is thought to have been appointed in 1663. He executed the death sentences against William Russell, Lord Russell in Lincoln's Inn Fields on July 21, 1683, and James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth on July 15, 1685, after the Monmouth Rebellion. On the scaffold (see gallows) on July 15, 1685, the Duke of Monmouth, addressing Ketch, referred to his treatment of Lord Russell, the result being that Ketch was quite unmanned. He had to deal at least five strokes with his axe (which he threw down, shouting "I cannot do this thing!") and finally use a knife to sever Monmouth's head from his shoulders.[citation needed] In 1686, Ketch was deposed and imprisoned at Bridewell. His successor, Paskah Rose, a butcher, was hanged at Tyburn after four months in his office.[citation needed] Ketch was reappointed in his place. He died towards the close of 1686.[citation needed]

Suffredin admitted that even though he had just learned of the alleged abuse, he never checked with the medical staff at Cook County Jail to determine whether there was any record of injuries to Holmes when he came into the jail. And he said he and his trial partner never tried to have the confession thrown out on grounds that it was coerced because they believed that the statement was uncorroborated by other evidence and that the law would require the judge to acquit their client.

"You and your partner chose to skip a step with (the judge) to get the statement -- the only evidence against your client -- thrown out?" Beuke asked.

"That's correct," Suffredin said.

Beuke also questioned Suffredin about a key detail of Holmes alleged torture -- that he was suffocated with a small, plastic trash bag.

"Would it surprise you to learn that they (plastic trash bags) weren't introduced to the market until 1977?" he asked.

"I wouldn't know," Suffredin said.

So Mister Holmes was smothered in 1973, by a product not invented until 1977 . . . now that is torturing . . .the Truth and Justice.

Pfleger asks if we're waiting for a child of our own to die to get involved. It's a reasonable question.

Lawyers for former Chicago Police Cmdr. Jon Burge have asked to move his trial from Chicago, arguing that news reports have made it impossible for him to be treated fairly by a jury here.

The attorneys contend that "pervasive, prejudicial pretrial publicity" has damaged Burge's ability to get a fair shake. On Wednesday, the lawyers gave U.S. District Judge Joan Lefkow a sampling of news accounts they say demonstrate the point.

Burge has been charged with perjury and obstruction of justice for allegedly concealing his involvement in torture. He has pleaded not guilty.

The Sun Times jumped at the story fed to them by the protesters who decided to protest a civil matter at the private home of the police detective arrested and charged in the deaths of two people.

The Sun Times wants everyone to know that this a 'silent' protest. Protest against what or whom and about what?


There is bugger all little else than the beef about the cop - he is charged and has posted bail and every reporter in Chicago is climbing up his rump. This we know.

Nearly two dozen people held a silent protest Monday night outside the Bridgeport home of police detective Joseph Frugoli, according to WMAQ-Channel 5.

Some protesters said they believed that Frugoli was receiving special treatment because he is Chicago cop.

On Sunday, Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. set a $500,000 bail for Frugoli, charged with killing two men in a drunken-driving accident. Some of the victims' friends and family members said the bail was too low Sunday -- a complaint echoed by protesters Monday.

Frugoli was freed on bail Sunday afternoon.

Protesters said they plan to return to the Frugoli home.

Earlier Monday, Frugoli refused to comment about his case, according to WMAQ.

Chicago Cops - Heroes Every Day, but Especially on Parade Days

Outnumbered. Out- Idioted. Out-Lawyered. Out-Politicianed. Out There. Chicago Police Officers are the real heroes.

They helped me look for a lost 4 year old.

They were loudly abused by drunks from early Sunday morning and well into the night.

World Class Scum Bag - G. Flint Taylor appeared on a Cable TV show called the Professors ( I caught this at about 1PM yesterday) who said that systemic racism and brutality is what Chicago Police Officers are all about -'They wield nightsticks on the backs of blacks, shrilled G. Flint. They have not used nightsticks in YEARS! None of the 'Professors' picked up on that fact however and most talked liked they were using words they learned that morning -'The Conflagration of the community rubrics are Tantamounted to the Proliferation of Police Powers on the Community.'

Nope. Cops are heroes.

During the Parade which brought 325,000 people together on the pavement around Western Ave., Chicago Cops put down two good sized brawls - the biggest at 111th and Western in the CVS parking lot the home to the Coach/Bus tourist louts from the fern bars up North and from suburbs who got boiled on booze early in the day and stayed hard at it until dark and the Metra Mopes from down-town, lofting cases of cheap domestic ( CHI-RISH MILLERS primarily) beers and smoking Weed Dude! One at 105th and Talman was put down with less violence, from what I heard.

Most of the outside revellers were great and respectful people. However, the ones who got all geezed-up to get their Irish Freak On - the sloppy drunk girls were the most sad and obnoxious of this variety - should be ashamed. Shame comes from the recognition of consequences for actions. These mopes do not understand consequences - they file lawsuits when they fall on someone's driveway and bust out a few teeth that have just passed the contents of their stomachs. Nice. These are the clowns who Bus It Down to the Parade. The Cops deal with them.

Granted we have enough of our own home grown dummies, but the Exodus from Look Down On The South Side Land of Oafs is too much.

Chicago Police Officers handled the situation with good humor, common sense and, when that failed, muscular application of Professional Standards. G. Flint Taylor was no doubt skulking about the drunks and Weed Citizens trolling for a lawsuit.

Well done, Officers! Mary Beth Sheehan and The South Side Parade Committee did a wonderful job as always in organizing a magnificent parade.

However, it is to the credit of the Chicago Police Officers who stood good for the South Side neighborhoods of Beverly, Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood in interdicting the imbeciles - Homegrown and Imported.

As soon as Mayor Harrison had left the city on his midsummer vacation in 1901, investigators were set to work to dig up something to my discredit in past years. It appears that the lieutenant had been promised a captaincy in any police district of his selection if he succeeded in smirching me. Instead, he lost his job and his pension.

The publisher of an evening paper, now dead, had been subsidized to harass me daily, but it did not work, the final effort was to "frame" me. It was very alluring bait indeed if I would only bite, but as I could not be induced to visit 'the spot.' I escaped all conspiracies unscathed and continued as head of the Chicago Police Department until it suited me to retire from service.

Chief O'Neill knew the Progressive phonies, the corrupt politicians, the dangerous anarchists, the vicious strike breakers, the callous capitalists, and sneaks in his ranks.
