Things I Never Say Mostly

Thanks in advance!  At the end of day, we all irritate others and often without meaning to take offense.  With all due respect, hackneyed and hollow phrasing might be holding us back from better human relations, at this in moment time.

In terms of bugging people with mindlessly empty tag lines and borrowed bon mots we can do better.

It is not always what it is.   Plain English works and say what is in your heart and head.  Political gasbags and celebrities have butchered human contact.

Agreed upon pap is not a a rhetorical feast.

 A simple way to avoid causing eyes to roll, at best,or a cousin to reach for that 32" Louisville slugger that he has soaked in Quaker State 40 Weight, at worst, would be to read some of President Obama's speeches and avoid sounding anything like him  - I mean that foppish corps of milkweeds who penned his utterances.

In Joseph Heller's  masterpiece Catch 22, the Orwellian speech-shadows dimming our light of conversation was halted by the primordial utterances of Major ___de Coverly. This septuagintal Major frightens the hell out of one and all by shear dint of the majesty and bearing of his being.  Major __de Coverly puts an end to the asinine Glorious Loyalty Oath of Captain Black in Chapter 13.

Captain Black, like many high school principals, members of Congress and the 44th President of United States,  believes that he is intelligent, due to his position in a table of organization.  He wants to 'get back at' Major Major Major ( formerly Captain Major Major) for being passed over for promotion and institutes a policy where by no member of the squadron can be fed without having signed the Glorious Loyalty Oath - via executive order/zero tolerance.

Maj. ___ de Coverly ends the Glorious Loyalty by holding his mess try under the nose of a mess hall commissar  and growling " Gimme eat!  . . ."Give Everyone Eat!"

Everyone got eat.

Please, plain speaking, cousins!

I do what I can.  Note that I have never consciously used any of the following:

• ( any verb transitive) preceding "this Puppy" Start this puppy, ride this puppy, screw this puppy
• " teaching moment"
• " opportunity for conversation" People who want an opportunity for conversation never shut up.
• " let's  dialog"
• " My policy" - unless referring to life, medical, car and homeowner insurance; other than those, policy is for pussies
• "that's just sad" - clause used rhetorically by confused, challenged and snotty people, when they have run out of intellectual ammo
• " Veggies"  - You mean carrots, celery stalks, cucumber slices and midget tomatoes for dip?
• "Bro, Brah, Dude"
• Reference to any Body parts in mixed company.  Don't be a dick.
• " How 'bout them " Bears, SOX, Bulls or even Hawks?
• " Kicking the can down the road" Which can exactly?  And - why exert yourself?
• " Right side of history"  Say that and you will be on the wrong side of study of the past.
• " Do you know who I am?"  - God, I hope not. 
• "Text me!"
• "Enough"  is not a feast!

I shall wag my tongue, until the Good Lord yanks it out of my head, and with dutiful and humble attention to my words offend no one. . . .but,  those who need offending. 

John McCain: Ignore the New York Times

In this campaign, there are honest differences over Iraq, and we should discuss them with the thoroughness they deserve. Unlike Senator McCain, I would make it absolutely clear that we seek no presence in Iraq similar to our permanent bases in South Korea, and would redeploy our troops out of Iraq and focus on the broader security challenges that we face. But for far too long, those responsible for the greatest strategic blunder in the recent history of American foreign policy have ignored useful debate in favor of making false charges about flip-flops and surrender.

It’s not going to work this time. It’s time to end this war.

Senator Barack Obama New York Times Op-Ed piece July 14, 2008.


There's fair and then there's the New York Times. The New York Times refused to print Senator John McCain's polar opposite Op-Ed piece to balance the charges of 'same-old-same-old' Bush Failed policies and the audaciously hopeful fiat to Joint Chiefs of Staff, "As president, I would pursue a new strategy, and begin by providing at least two additional combat brigades to support our effort in Afghanistan. We need more troops, more helicopters, better intelligence-gathering and more nonmilitary assistance to accomplish the mission there. I would not hold our military, our resources and our foreign policy hostage to a misguided desire to maintain permanent bases in Iraq."

As a Democrat voting for John McCain, I trust McCain's judgment and character. I have no idea what Senator Obama's judgment and character might be other than that of a very elegant politician who has no problem consigning political liabilities to oblivion once they become too public. Obama is a great speech reader and set piece prop - he looks and sound good even when he ain't.

John McCain walks the walk and too often trips over the talk. Most people I know have that very problem. Sometimes there is a tendency among very public people to pretend that they can divine the depths of another's heart by the choice of words. Parsing has become sucker-punching in today's timid thought climate, only less vital to what passes ( er, parses) for debate is the volume at which one manages to scream questions.

The New York Times goes one further - they will not print words that they do not particularly like. They seem to be taking their cues from the Cable TV medium - say what Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, or Bill Maher deem appropriate or stand up for ridicule. The New York Times is nothing if not terribly sensitive to criticism from the political Left - delicate and fragile.

I hope that John McCain parts company with these delicate flowers. The Opinion Hothouse that Obama's handlers own is unforgiving - ask Ryan Lizza!

Give the New York Times a nod and then move on - a polite, perfunctory heads -up regular guy salute and keep walking.

Let them assume that you are only interested in talking to your right wing friends - whoever the hell they are! Allow bloated mopes like Olbermann to soil his britches in straining to make a point about the cartoon of your character that Obama's handlers strain to make. You have the voters. It is deeds and not rhetoric that people will support in the voting booth.

Thank the New York Times for their endorsement of you in the Primaries, Senator McCain and then ignore them. They are too delicate for the bare-knuckled world of deeds and not words.

A Self Inflicted Pie Toss Victim- Pat Buchanan - Celebrated 'sucker-puncher' had a tough night in Florida.

Pat Buchanan was swallowing his eye-balls while the returns maintained McCain's Leads. Olbermann droned. Pat Buchanan, whose sister Bay orchestrated Mitt Romney's 'ground war,' and 'psych ops' as one goof explained why there was 'no possible way McCain could expect to win in Florida,' called Senator McCain 'a liar'
repeatedly on MSNBC and accused McCain of 'sucker-punching' Romney over the weekened = hey that's Pat Buchanan's schtick:

But it seems that faux-tough guy Buchanan is a self-described sucker-puncher:

Assaulted Police Officers
Pat Buchanan's lack of respect for the law took another form in college. An argument with police officers over a traffic ticket ended up with Buchanan swinging away at them. Buchanan's supporters like to say he "beat up" the cops. Actually, Pat ended up with a broken wrist and a misdemeanor conviction (and only a sharp lawyer kept it at that.) He was suspended from Georgetown University for a year, though he was later readmitted (after his father pleaded with the school) and graduated with honors.

Pat actually plays this incident up, cultivating the image of a tough guy outsider, "fighting Irish" -- though he is much more German and Scottish than Irish, lives a wealthy Beltway life, and has rarely shown any honor in his fighting. Even in his own autobiography, he often brags about "sucker punching" people -- hitting them when they aren't looking. And of course he avoided military service despite his "tough" pro-war talk. --

Anti-Cop and a Coward? A Sucker Puncher, at least where I come from, is akin to being a Barn Burner in Rural America. Well Pat Buchanan is an - Oh, what's that word that starts with a vowel? - an Entertainer, like Rush and the Lennie and Squigee of political thought - Hannity and Colmes. Rhetoric lost big time last night. Deeds Kayo'd Words!

John McCain won because people voted for him. They responded to his record - his deeds. All the Gasbags and Harumphing Hypocrites on Fox and MSNBC and on the Blogopshere will need to re-tool. No , Keith Olbermann, you will still have your job -MSNBC has more tools than Craftsman.

Rudy Giuliani ran like a Man. Mike Huckabee is a Christian Gentleman. Fred Thompson a Patriot. Now is the time for Mitt Romney to think about his Party and his Country. However, I got a Saccgeweah Gold Coin that says he will pump more money into his ego-driven campaign and Mitt will go uglier.

John McCain's deeds and the votes in Florida allow John McCain the opportunity to 'go Presidential on Mitt and his minions -Rush, Hannity, Buchanan, Scarborough ( what a tool!), Hughie Hewitt, 'Bones' Coulter and so many others.
