To which I generally cock an eybrow and query, "Pardonnez-moi, mais avez-vous été sniffer de la colle?"


Today, the Boston Globe's Joan Vennochi offers the latest meme -slather of "Yeah, Butter" - concerning Obama's HHS Choice Mandate.

Catholic Institutions without regard to Catholic values must pay for abortifacients, condoms, and birth control pills as part of any health care plan.

Here is the "Yeah, Butter, du jour.

But not all employees of Catholic institutions are Catholics. Why should their employers impose their religious beliefs on them and deny coverage for birth control and other medical care? As long as those Catholic institutions are getting taxpayer money, they should follow secular rules. That’s the Obama administration’s argument, and it makes sense.

Well, gee. How does Joan assume that? People are hired without reghard to race, creed or color, per Federal Fiat.

Therefore, she can only assume that some employees might not be Catholic.

Joan says, "Obama isn’t trying to undermine Catholicism. He’s telling Catholic leaders they can’t regulate the beliefs of those of other faiths."

YEAH, But!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Girl, Please!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama's Choice Mandate - War on Catholics; Well, Not All Catholics.

The President, wholly owned by Planned Parenthood, which has owned the Democratic National Committee for decades, mandates Choice.

Choice is a euphemism for Abortion which is the engine that drives Planned Parenthood.

Choice's smokescreen is women's reproductive health.

Women's reproductive health employs contraception - largely birth control pills, but also schoolyard condoms for kids and also . . . abortion, because, after all they are kids.

Kathleen Seblius, the Kansas Mauler herself, a Birth Catholic and a Planned Parenthood owned politician, directs all Health and Human Services for Planned Parenthood's first President, Barack H. Obama. Sebilius, speaking for Planned Parenthood, the folks who use abortion to make sure that 'unwanted' children are murdered, trotted out the announcement that Choice is a Federal Mandate:

Planned Parenthood Federation of America and other women’s advocates had been worried the White House would broaden the list of employers that were exempt from the requirement. They expressed relief that the White House stuck to the basic policy.

“This common-sense decision means that millions of women, who would otherwise pay $15 to $50 a month, will have access to affordable birth control, helping to save hundreds of dollars each year,” said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood.

The decision was a setback for social conservatives, Republicans and especially the U.S. Conference of Bishops, which criticized the requirement as a violation of religious liberty.

I am a life-long Catholic, more trouble than I am probably worth, but a Catholic. Abortion is and always be murder. It is premeditated murder - choice after all.

The U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops issued a very strong condemnation of Obama's Choice Mandate and said, in effect, to take his one year extension and place it in its proper aperture.

Washington: The Catholic Bishops of the United States called “literally unconscionable” a decision by the Obama Administration to continue to demand that sterilization, abortifacients and contraception be included in virtually all health plans. Today’s announcement means that this mandate and its very narrow exemption will not change at all; instead there will only be a delay in enforcement against some employers.

“In effect, the president is saying we have a year to figure out how to violate our consciences,” said Cardinal-designate Timothy M. Dolan, archbishop of New York and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The cardinal-designate continued, “To force American citizens to choose between violating their consciences and forgoing their healthcare is literally unconscionable. It is as much an attack on access to health care as on religious freedom. Historically this represents a challenge and a compromise of our religious liberty.”

The HHS rule requires that sterilization and contraception — including controversial abortifacients — be included among “preventive services” coverage in almost every healthcare plan available to Americans. “The government should not force Americans to act as if pregnancy is a disease to be prevented at all costs,” added Cardinal-designate Dolan.

At issue, the U.S. bishops and other religious leaders insist, is the survival of a cornerstone constitutionally protected freedom that ensures respect for the conscience of Catholics and all other Americans.

Back in the day, Barack Obama followed orders from Emil Jones and Mike Madigan. Obama took no risks.

Catholics are in for some ugly days ahead, unless they are Catholics like Dick Durbin, Kathy Sebilius, and Pat Quinn.

Catholics have two guys with steel in the soul - Archbishop Tim Dolan of New York and Francis Cardinal George. Archbishop Dolan and Chicago's Cardinal George will take most of the hits. They are up to it.

The fact is that the Roman Catholic Church sponsors more Gay friendly services than any LGBTQ Advocacy meet-up and shout center. Full Medical HIV-AIDS services, psychological services and counselling are available because the Catholic Church has been in the fore-front for Gays, just as it has been for children, battered women, convicts, the elderly, the disabled, the challenged and most of all the unborn.

Cardinal George spoke to two very limited context occupants, Mike Flannery and Dane Placko of Chicago Fox WFLD affiliate in Chicago. Mike Flannery is best known for his obsequious shadowing of President Obama and Dane Placko is noted for . . .having a job at Fox 32.

Cardinal George made the point that some Gay Activist employ rhetoric used by the KKK in the 1920's - it was virulently anti-Catholic. The Catholic Church is opposed to Gay Marriage and LGBTQ activists are anti-Catholic, including some Rainbow Sash members. Dane Placko asked Cardinal George, "What Rhetoric?"

The Catholic Church is just as much a hate group as the Klan is, wasting tens of millions of dollars trying to suppress, oppress, demean, degrade, and deny all LGBT citizens of all faiths.
Jesus would never have collected or spent Catholic riches this way; instead, He would have provided food, clothing, shelter, health care, and education to those who need it most.
"Demonstrating in the streets" is a time-honored American principle, and nothing that any religious leader has any right to prohibit, prevent, or proscribe.
Chicago Archbishop Cardinal Francis George, like most of his colleagues, is at least 60 years out of date. The "Gay Liberation" he fears began in the 1960s and finished in the 1970s. It was succeeded by gay rights in the 1980s, civil rights in the 1990s, and human rights in the 2000s. Cardinal George thinks it’s still the 1950s.
The dirty little secret feared by the cardinal and his cronies is that if gays ever get liberated, then most Catholic priests will get liberated, too. And once they are, those priests will have no reason to remain enslaved to a religion which preaches that they’re evil, when they can just re-dedicate their lives to God and mankind through most other religions.
Under Cardinal George, the Roman Catholic Church is just a holy holdout for Klansmen wearing fancier robes, with more jewelry, and following the same superstitions.

Interesting that it is Cardinal George who actually shares so many of the bigoted views of the Klan, yet he now tries to deflect attention from the child rape by Catholic clergy with this dishonest attack. Interesting that this Cardinal's hateful comparison and paranoia comes just when the Dutch Catholic Church has acknowledged that children in its care are twice as likely to be raped by clergy than they would be outside of these Catholic child-abuse mills. I think he forgets that it is not he who decides who may march in parades and what Americans may protest. I am disappointed, and wonder whether some medical issue has hampered this man's mental faculties. Whether his motivation is bigotry or inability to reason, he should apologize to gays whom he has slandered, and then he must resign in disgrace.

State Rep. Sara Feigenholtz (D-Chicago) also weighed in on the statement, telling ChicagoPride.com, "The Cardinal's unfortunate choice of words in comparing the LGBT community to the Klu Klux Klan is offensive. ... I would hope an apology be forthcoming."

Rahm's "Holiday Tree" - Cosmic Impiety On Display

Mayor Rahm Emanuel lit the Chicago Holiday Tree. The Holiday Tree will delight Secular Puritans - The Progressives. Will Rahm next light the Holiday Candle - that big brass receptacle for seven candles? How about that Old Devil Crescent Moon?

Mayor Rahm Emanuel continued a Chicago tradition by flipping the switch to light the 55-foot Colorado spruce in Daley Plaza Wednesday night, but unlike Mayor Daley, Emanuel will be lighting a "holiday" tree.

The city's first Jewish mayor originally abstained from calling the festive display a "Christmas tree," although the city refers to Wednesday night's event as the "98th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony" on its website.

Emily Soloff, associate director for interreligious and intergroup relations for the American Jewish Committee, told the Chicago Tribune that the mayor's word choice was admirable.

"Those for whom it isn't a religious symbol relate to it for the symbol of happiness and joy that we all as Chicagoans can experience this season," Soloff said. "That adds to our civic pride and our feelings of being a community that we all share in a part of this season."

We are enjoying Secular Puritanism's last kicks at the collective Christian Cat.

The other day Atheist activists and ACLU at some level of support and encouragement ventured onto Camp Pendelton to make sure that Marines removed a cross at a make-shift chapel to the fallen of Iraq and Afghanistan. Another Pyrrhic Progressive victory got notched up.

The Secular Puritans continue to put religion, largely Christianity, into the blocks and halters with the cheerleaders like Bill Maher and Hollywood types swinging the censers filled with Progressive frankincense. When President Barack Obama won in 2008, children of Dewey went dancing in the aisles. Obama ushered in an age dedicated to Science and Certainty and Logic, they argued. Children are tissues!

Things are not looking all that great for the Science, Certainty and Logical Presidency.

Here in the Obama 2012 epicenter, Chicago, Mayor Rahm lit the Holiday Tree. It was Rahm getting in the faces of people - little man disease. Little people, both physical and psychological go all terrier on people in an attempt to intimidate them.

People who are self-assured do not need to intimidate. Intimidation is generally attempted by persons with low-self-esteem. Little man's complex often goads a smaller person to swagger and act the bully with people perceived to be bigger than themselves or somehow an imagined threat. Little Intimidators go after the bigger targets, in the mistaken notion that there are no real consequences to their actions.

The Chicago Sun Times , with great regularity, features the front page story of a little man marinated with giant killer -Mr. Booze - who was punched by a larger man. Fatal error, that.

There are things larger than us no matter how big, or powerful we might be, or become - that's in Darwin by the way.

Darwin opened the door for Hegel, Fichte, Nietsche and Dewey. Where biology was once the province of Czech Monks looking to make better beans fro the Augustinian monastery and cashiered British Army officers, who robbed the regimental funds to pay off gambling debts and were now consigned to battalions of butterflies, Darwin allowed economists and romantic social engineers to play God.

I never met my great grand fathers, but I have great faith in their existences - in County Kerry. If I trust public documents, I can reach a greater certainty on this issue, but again I am locked into trust or faith.

Getting rid of faith diminishes the individual. In the 19th Century, leading powers that have been, worked to diminish the individual and promote the community. That is the essence of Progressive ism -control.

Philosopher and agnostic Mark Vernon expanded on this scientific bit of data to underscore the meanness of Secular Puritanism, The parish churches of this country may or may not be emptying but the medieval cathedrals are filling up ??" because beautiful music and sublime architecture speaks to people of this ultimate mystery.

Medill's Chicago Tribune Uses Penn State to Pile on Catholics

It is a sign of one's Progressive street-cred to vilify a Catholic's beliefs, Catholic leadership, Catholic history, and above all Catholic Institutional failings, while protesting in a soft, silky, humming NPR tone that 'well its is all true. Is it not?'

Eric Zorn cuts to the core of the problem at Penn State by touting a Nast-like cartoon from the in-house paper hanger Stantis -Scott Stantis. I do not believe that there is a Roman Catholic bishop on the Board of Directors at Penn State. While Joe P is a practicing Catholic . . .that must be it! Scott Stantis, who couldn't carry Jack Higgins' jockstrap, evidently needs to draw that connection for the brie-eaters and they love it! Eric Zorn squeals -Stantis Brings It!

Random Bishops! Dude!

Scott Stantis is widely ignored (I was unaware of his body of work) and requires a pedestal. Eric Zorn (EZ), The Water Boy, a columnist and Progressive mouthpiece has a good sized readership. I read him for laughs.

The above cartoon deflects the problem at Penn State, a public school, onto the American Catholic Strawmen - Bishops. Bishops are the patriarchal, liver spotted, cassock-ed, mitre'd, people who are blamed for the NAMBLA* crises that has yet to be seriously addressed.

N.B. Odd. . .NAMBLA is cool with Progressives. Obama appointed a NAMBLA devotee to Arne Duncan's Dept. of Education.

The bishops deserve criticism and must wear the jacket for the priest abuse scandals for many more years.

It is easy to hate the Catholic Church. It is easy to hate. It is very hard work to be merely a good guy. It requires that we do things that we might not find easy to do, like teaching your children that respecting the differences found in some people does not require that you ignore the rules of Nature and moral truth. There have been homosexuals on or planet, since Sodom, Sparta, Boetia, and Christopher Street. The only homosexuals who had children were those on the 'down-low' like Oscar Wilde. Homosexuals married women. Oscar and Lord Alfred Douglas had no children. Impulse and desire do not make for normalcy.

Likewise, it is very difficult to teach my daughters as a widow-man, that the great gift of sex belongs only in the sacrament, because marriage between a man and woman is as much as protective womb as the one possessed by my two girls - young women. They have witnessed the mountain of problems a single parent has in trying to bring children up alone. Children need a mother and a father. My son learned early in life that gentleness and respect for a woman is the greatest body cologne in the world and it is far more attractive to a woman than a gallon of AXE.

The hardest thing to try and teach them is the fact that while we posses our bodies, they are not ours to keep. We can not choose to do what we want and when we want - we can not liberate ourselves when mood strikes. We can, but that is not different than being like Barney the Golden Lab who must dry-hump me on sight. Who's to say this is not Love?

Joseph Medill lovingly hated Catholics and the Chicago Tribune has kept that impulse alive and change.

Abortion and Gay Marriage are two huge Progressive agendas - they must be preserved and instituted. The Catholic Church is the only institution that stands in its way.

President Obama is making war on Catholic hospitals that do not push abortion and colleges that do not celebrate the Rainbow flag. Catholic politicians are okay with that.

Catholic Bishops are finally beginning to show some backbone. Archbishop Dolan of New York is the new Dagger John Hughes - who fought off anti-Catholic bigots through the mid 19th Century. Cardinal George has predicted that he will die in his bed, his successor in prison and that bishop's successor will be martyred for the Faith.

Eric Zorn and the third-rate Scott Stantis are doing all that they can do help make that come true. I hope that our next Cardinal is made of the stuff of martyrs. I like martyrs who give as well as get. I'd love to see someone with the youth and intelligence of Archbishop J.P. Sartain, formerly of Joliet and now Archbishop of Seattle step into Cardinal George's moccasins.

Catholics understand Progressives. We know that the wet-stuff running down the back of our legs is not the Showers of May.

Nothing smells as bad as water-soaked newspapers. I had an uncle who saved newspapers in the corner of his basement, going back to the Mayor Edward Kelly Administration. The problem was that Tupperware technology jumped over Uncle Mossie and he kept his treasures bound in twine. Compounding that problem was the fact that Uncle Mossie's basement leaked like Congressman Mike Quigley to the Sun Times.

When Uncle Mossie shed his mortal husk, I was tasked with cleaning out the old guy's basement - the smell would gag a maggot. Decades of seepage soaked the Daily News, Chicago Sun, Herald American, Kerryman, Southtown Economist, New World and their offspring. There were no Chicago Tribunes, as the Trib was a Scab, anti-Catholic rag. Uncle Mossie was a daily Communicant and rock-solid member of the Lather's Union.

Water and newspapers don't mix, unless one is going into the Homegrown mushroom business. Worms love newspapers soaked in water.

You kids been reading Eric Zorn lately? The banjo-plucking ink-slinger Progressive columnist is knee deep in the wet-stuff. Late this summer Eric was busy lugging the garbage out for Mayor/Coach Rahm on the Garbage Grid Plan that passed with the City Budget. Eric loves the Grid!

What passes for journalism in Chicago is a person with keyboard, a phone, Blackberry, or a lot of time on his/her hands to take lunch and an elected official, activist, Good Government appointee, or unelectable appointee with a deal.

These holier-than-a- cheapskate's -undies columnists roll out the ink with the agenda leaked into their ears by the above-stated scammers.

The Catholic Church is an obstacle, or should be, to Progressives. Progressives love Abortion, government hand-outs to designated groups and individuals, Homosexual Marriage, and Public Education . . . Oh! And Taxes! Lots and Lots of Taxes forked out by the middle class helots with all of those damn children!

The Catholic Church is one big-assed mainstream faith with many, many, many members in Chicago. The Catholic Church is very visible in Chicago. The Catholic Church operates the very best schools in Chicago for no public cost to Atheists or Progressives. Catholics no longer need to be courted much less appeased about anything in Chicago.

Progressives have a vision for Chicago, a smaller, cleaner, more efficient, Green, childless, and really fun Urban Center, and that vision is taking place. The problem is getting rid of the middle class homeowners and their rotten kids. Garbage collection and water go hand-in-hand. The Garbage Collection Grid is coming, middle class Wards will be re-mapped and smart sized, and water is going to cost families a lung. It's all there in the University of Chicago Urban Planning chit-chat linked by clicking my post title.

Rahm Emanuel is the Progressive Mayor and all he needs is a water-boy. Like a good coach it seems that Coach Rahm has an energetic pencil-necked go-getter in the always dependable Eric Zorn.

Today, Eric the Water Boy continues the coach's management of water distribution and finds an easy target in Alderman Ed Burke. Alderman Burke, it seems to me, views the new water mandates to be what they are - overture for the exit of the middle class from the planned Urban Center Chicago.

Alderman Burke takes issue with the two edged sword soaked in the wet-stuff. You see not only is the water issue a dodge to squeeze the middle class out of Chicago, it is also a swell hammer to bash in the head of Cardinal George for objecting to Gay Marriage, Abortion and all of those other nasty Catholic doctrines.

I believe that taking away the free Chicago water from Catholic ( and others) Institutions is the threat by Rahm to Cardinal to lay-low until President Obama is re-elected, Gay Marriage gets enacted in Illinois, and Planned Parenthood can kill babies without being called on it

And if the City Council wants to start diluting the proposal by handing out exemptions, it ought to start with institutions that don't proselytize and don't mix so many babies with so much bath water.

If they give churches favored status over charitable groups, lawsuits will be sure to follow and all the potential savings will go swirling down the drain.

He's going to get that question a lot in the coming weeks. Last week, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced an aggressive schedule of annual water-rate hikes as he rolled out next year's city budget. The increases, he said, are necessary to pay for badly needed repairs to our aging pipes, catch basins and pumping stations.

On average, he said in his speech to the City Council, the extra cost in the first year "will equal about five cups of Dunkin' Donuts coffee a month," a clever, middle-brow way of expressing $120 (a medium cup of joe at Dunkin' Donuts is $1.96 in my Northwest Side neighborhood).

But Emanuel suggested that residents could significantly dull the pain "by switching to a free water meter, as Amy and I have done. In fact," said the mayor, "those who switch to meters will pay less next year — even with the fee increase. Let me repeat: Switching to a free water meter means you can pay less next year — not more."

Two Days prior that moist towelette for the Coach was this sensitive whiff of weakness on the part of City Council Council Floor Leader Pat O'Connor.

I think what he was trying to say is when we exempt churches, all of us must pay slightly higher water bills to compensate the system: We pay for our own water, then we all chip in a bit more to cover the cost of giving churches water at no charge. Paying twice, as he puts it.

So if we charge our houses of worship for water, those houses of worship are going to have to ask us for more money. So we'll still be paying twice.

The critical difference, however, is that, under the current system, those city dwellers who don't attend a city house of worship -- those who go to the suburbs are who simply aren't churchgoing people -- are compelled to chip in.
If I'm understanding O'Connor correctly, his idea that "it's the same pockets that are paying for it anyway" makes no sense whatsoever.

St. Xavier University v.NLRB - Esse Quam Videri

I'll be going in to Leo High School shortly. I get up at about 4 A.M. and practice writing. That has been my habit for many years. I started teaching in Catholic secondary schools in 1975.

I have never belonged to a teachers union. I was a janitor ( now SEIU)and held a paid up card for years. Nearly every male and many female members of my immediate and extended family hold union cards in the skilled trades - stationary engineers, machinists, plumbers, electricians, carpenters.

I generally get over to Leo High School between 5-5:30 A.M. where I read the obits for the names of Alumni, answer e-mails, do prospect research and often tutor the guys in English and American Lit, or help with their essays.

Teaching - is it a profession, or trade? Professionals, like lawyers, doctors, and accountants, set up their practices, or work for partnerships. Teachers want to be treated like professionals - they demand it.

It has been my honor to work with real professionals. People who have not only imparted information, methods, or theories but inspired young people to exceed their grasps.

At times, I have worked with few real dogs - people who took every sick day and change; never took advantage of the library during free time; could not manage a class of any size; had more excuses than Michael Moore has chins; threatened lawsuits when terminated. They were jokes. Many found homes with their State of Illinois Certifications in public schools.

One outstandingly stupid gent became a regional superintendent in southern Illinois. He had a personally crafted sign in his classroom: 'Untied We Stand!' Untied he was from the bonds of his Catholic school contract, after he violated his contract for the last time.

This morning I read the hopelessly slanted report by the Tribune's Seeker -Manya Brachear. Her grain of salt begins with this poisoning of the well -

For years, some Roman Catholic bishops and conservatives have complained that American Catholic colleges have strayed from church teachings. Now, labor regulators in Chicago have declared that St. Xavier University isn't Catholic enough by government standards either.

Really? Most Catholic colleges are Corporations and Bishops are Corporations Sole in Illinois. They are separate legal entities. Which is it legal, or doctrinal?

Georgetown University, De Paul University and University of Notre Dame have bent like like Gummi Worms to be perceived as secular Ivory Towers. In fact Georgetown removed the Cross for President Obama. Notre Dame arrested rosary praying priests and old folks, unhappy with Our Lady's University telling America that Abortion is Okay. De Paul University, for some goofy reason, wants to be a rube Berkeley.

It is no easy thing being a Catholic, anymore than it is being a good Baptist, or a devout Jew, especially given American sub-culture these days.

Homosexual Marriage is unacceptable; Abortion is unacceptable. Therefore, to the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, Progressive bully pulpit Catholic is unacceptable.

Catholic Gummi Bears agree.

The NLRB gooning of St.Xavier University is no more than the Obama White House playing street for its base. President has no street cred and needs some quickly. Gooning a Catholic school will toss red meat to MSNBC, GE, Hollywood and SEIU. It'll show the man is serious about Change '08. The Change that gave us our current economic and moral swamp.

Part time ( Adjunct) teachers are not forced into the St. Xavier University HR Offices on 103rd Street at gun point. There is a perfectly fine Community College on Pulaski at 76th ( Daley) and another over on Dr. Martin Luther King Drive at 99th Street (Chicago State). They are secular choices, where no bishops pop out of the wood work.

As to the social justice issue, read the encyclicals. Pope Leo XIII for whom this old high school was named is the Pope of the Working Man and author of Rerum Novarum. Leo XIII wrote it for 19th Century working men who had full time jobs as meat-cutters, teamsters, drovers, renderers, leathermen, engineers, carpenters, electricians and plumbers. This was the age of the Molly Maguire hangings (23 hangings) in Pennsylvania and Colorado Mine massacres - hardly adjunct art teachers.

Rerum Novarum was not a call to organize lemonade stand workers, though work very hard.

The fact that a person studied real hard to get a Phd. in Public Art, or wrote her Masters thesis on 'The Enslavement of Women in Archie and Jughead Graphic Novel' is to be praised, but meat for a union local getting organized anywhere.

Pope Leo XIII was no Saul Alinsky.

I hope that St. Xavier University wins this one.

Catholic Universities like Catholics should be what they seem to be and not bend like Gummi Worms in order to charm dim bulbs like Manya Brachear.

We Got Civil Unions and Kids Lost Catholic Charities

In his ruling, Schmidt limited his decision to whether Catholic Charities had a legal right to keep its contracts with the state, which total more than $30 million. . . ., ". . . No citizen has a recognized legal right to a contract with the government," Schmidt wrote. "The state may refuse to renew the plaintiffs' contracts."

Huffington Post and every other media outlet let go of a high Huzzah!

or did the judge merely convince fans of Gay marriage that every thing boils down to the matter of buck? Sexuual appetite is Civil Right, so say advocates of Gay marriage and family. Dignity is demanded for children. What about the 2,000 kids in the care of Catholic Charities?

I was married and widowed. Loneliness is everything it is cracked up to be and more. Historically, less than 5% of human population found confort in the arms of like gendered partners. Sex and Love often go hand in hand. Sex is a response to the animal impulse to reproduce and, massively, that urge is fulfilled between a man and women. Thus, the human race marches on!

Homosexuality has always been a part of the human story. These days, the media and political gamesmen appear to be making it the whole human story. I have known homosexuals all of my life and for the most part loved them and wish, hope and pray that they find happiness and fulfillment. I know that they are not going have kids without pushing the biological envelop off the table or adopting children.

Like homosexuals and breeders, I was born of a woman - Mom. Even God has a Mom. He also had a father even though he was not the bearer of the DNA. Joseph was chosen to be the Father of Jesus or Joshua Bar Joseph. Mary did not choose cousin Elizabeth, or a Sarah, or a Martha, or Annette Bening to prove that the kid was alright when He visited the Temple.

Jesus wandered away from Joseph and Mary and not Joseph and Barnabas, or Gary.

The Holy Family was a Man and Woman and a Child.

The heart wants what the heart wants - to be loved. There is love outside of Marriage.

The Illinois Defense of Religious Liberty (Civil Unions) is a gateway to Gay Marriage. It is cynical and bullying legal legerdemain to bowl over any and all opposition to Gay Marriage - the Roman Catholic Church. Aside from the several hundreds of wildly happy gay couples civily unioned, the only other thing that this cynical legislation accomplished was to sever the good work of Catholic Charities from Springfield's tax larder, but more so, it legally outlawed a Catholic agency from doing good work.

Carry Buck Battles the Class War Dopes

Full Disclosure - I am acquainted with Ms. Carry Buck. This woman speaks her mind without the generous application of cant or obfuscation. I have been on the receiving end of Carry Buck's opinion - she is a woman in full!

Before you read the Tribune Campaign against Carry Buck, watch this tough and smart woman.



Chip-on-the-shoulder is a great old expression that now means to challenge the attitude of resentful people. Originally, the term was applied to the rights of shipwrights who were allowed to carry off nautically unusable or unsuitable scraps of wood that might go into the fire and put that wood to their own use and purposes. Thus, a man with a chip on his shoulders was exercising his rights in a very public manner. He had the skills and the purpose to make use of wood as a perquisite to those talents. As the phrase evolved, the wood became a metaphor - carrying a chip on one's shoulder indicated a profound sense of resentment*.

A person might resent the fact that less talented persons carry home better wood, or more money. If that person's feelings are directed toward other persons, that is resentment. If the person turns those feelings toward himself, that is remorse. Resentment and remorse are the twins of bitterness.

No one does resentment and remorse like the Irish and generally for very good reasons. Here on the south side, we resent being characterized as bigots, political sheep, and 'close-knit' ethnics. South siders will generally let an auslander understand those feelings -literally and figuratively.

South side Irish, Lithuanian, Polish, Croatian, Italian and German Catholics live in neighborhoods that the media characterize as 'hot-beds' of racial hatred. Empirically, that is no where near the case. Historically, south side 'close-knit ethnics (Catholics)' are the children of stockyard and steel workers who were shut out of jobs, as recorded in Upton Sinclair's The Jungle and other tomes, when the Pullmans, Armours, Swifts, Cudahys, and McCormicks locked-out strikers and brought in strikebreakers - blacks from the south between 1888 and 1919.

Losing one's job is cause for resentment. Blacks and whites in Chicago were locked in a racially tagged cage-match for decades. Whites on the south side not only resented the wave of people coming north for a better life, but also the white folks who seemed to egg on the conflicts from their safe and tonier neighborhoods and villages far from the combat and scorning both combatants.

South siders ( white and black) had huge chips on their shoulders. They earned those planks by the way.

The Chicago Tribune ,from Joseph Medill on, has been a great egger on of racial resentments and remorse.

Yesterday, my friend Anne Leary posted a story on Backyard Conservative from the Medill Caged-Death-Match promotional crew - this time, however, the combatants are far removed from the traditional "hot-beds of urban violence and resentment" ( Morgan Park, Beverly, and of course Mount Greenwood). The new target for our high-moral-ground Pecksniffers is, of all places, north shore, Winnetka.

Winnetka is described in this particularly oily piece as a 'hamlet' by the Medill crew. A hamlet, boys and girls, is a settlement of homes too small to be considered a village. In jolly Olde England, once a hamlet built a church, it became a village. Winnetka's got Church.

What it don't got is 'affordable housing.' Affordable Housing is the post-CHA euphemism for The Jets Gotta Go Somewhere, or Section 8, or Meet the Mickey Cobras!

Section 8 Housing folks are scattered from the Taylor, Cabrini-Green, Ickes and other Housing Projects - they are the children of the Progressive Disaspora. Section 8 Housing is also known as Diversity!

Diversity, like the New York Times, is unassailable in its sanctimony and sacro-sanctity. Not where I live, thanks be to God, but in other residential areas that feast upon such bovine leavings as doctrine.

One woman, Carry Buck, is targeted by the Tribune and we all know that means Ms. Buck is about to get the Full Medill! Carry Buck is the President of the Winnetkan Home Owners Association,or WHOA! Truly.

Tucked between luxury estates off Sheridan Road near Lake Michigan, a Winnetka statue depicts a homeless man, head resting on hand, with this inscription: "No tenements for some and castles for others."

Some have noted the irony in those words as an ugly debate has roiled over a village plan to introduce affordable housing in Winnetka, long a bastion of wealth and philanthropy.

In the hamlet of 12,000, some residents have protested the plan, igniting fears of federally subsidized housing and government interference. Supporters argue that the proposal is hardly radical and would allow the village's police, teachers and shopkeepers to live and retire in Winnetka, where the median home price was $1.1 million last year.

Winnetka's plan calls for a land trust to provide for-sale and rental property to those who make far less than the median household income of $201,650. Owner-occupied units must be affordable to households earning at least $75,000. Rentals must be affordable to those earning at least $45,000 or more. Current residents and senior citizens would receive priority.

"There is plenty of affordable housing in neighboring communities," said Carry Buck, chairman of WHOA, or Winnetka Home Owners Association. "Most people in Winnetka are conservative and they do not want more involvement from government."

In a 25-page publication mailed to Winnetka residents last week, the homeowners association called the village Plan Commission's proposal un-American, predicting it will lower property values, attract criminals and force residents to subsidize those who rely on "hand-outs."

Some supporters of the plan expressed shock at the rhetoric, with one resident writing to officials, "Aren't we better than this?"

No, not really. It sounds like Carry Buck is speaking plainly and honestly. Apartments and rental homes that once were affordable housing for working people black, white, Hispanic, and Asian that have been mandated Section 8 have become minature Taylor Homes and Cabrini Greens in Oak Lawn, Hickory Hills, Alsip, and Hometown on the southwest side. If one does not have a job, let alone never had one, affordable housing should be tough to get. If my job goes south, I lose a house and must go where I will be able to find work. That will not be in Winnetka. I have a job and some level of skill, but I will not find a home in Winnetka.

The Harrumphing of do-gooders, goo-goos, and activists, who live far and away from blacks, Hispanics, shanty Irish and working stiffs with all of their kids, ( haven't they heard of Planned Parenthood?) really is . . .resentful . . . Doncha Think, So? Let's dialog. Rather than harbor and ship resentment against Carry Buck for speaking common sense and economic honesty, how about going all remorseful? What do you say? Let's add to our celebrations of diversity, by giving your ears a chance. Yap less; live more! Come on over to Leo High School, or Hales, or any one of the fine CPS Schools ( not the Magnets please) and Mentor and Nurture the kids; teach for free; act as a crossing guard here on 79th Street and Sangamon. Lord knows we need one. Earn that Progressive Chip on the Shoulder!

The Knights of Malta - I know a couple - are usually Italian/Lithuanian/Irish/Polish/Bohemian or Ukrainian American Funeral directors or construction contractors who make huge charitable drops to a Catholic Diocese. They are invariably wonderful and generous people. They often look embarrassed in their Diplomatic Duds and wish that the honor might have been conferred upon 'someone more worthy' than themselves.

The Knights of Malta are also good in fiction - Knights of St. John/Templar/Malta or whatever. Dashiel Hammett's singularly hard-boiled novel The Maltese Falcon is part of a tradition going back to the Waverly Novels of Walter Scott -especially Ivanhoe. In Ivanhoe, the evil Sir Brian de Bois-Guilbert and his pals the Knights Templar (Lucas de Beaumanoir, Reginald Front-de-Boeuf,Maurice De Bracy and Conrade de Montfichet Stout Normans all) make life a bed of nails for Saxons and Jews. In fact de Bois Guilbert wants to have his wicked way with Jewish English Princess Rebbecca -daughter of Issac Jew of York, who wants his daughter well quit of all the goyish boys including the Saxon Stud-muffin Ivanhoe, who has eyes only for the blond Stacked Saxon Simpleton Rowenna. I'd have taken a hard run at the exotic and raven haired Rebecca, myself - truth to tell.

Good novel stuff. Now, Seymour Hersh is going all blood libel on Catholics in his upcoming piece for the New Yorker. Sy is saying that the Knights of Malta have Assemblies of God members like former Gen. Stanley McCrystal doing the dirt on Muslims and American foreign policy via a secret control of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Get this!

Hersh may have been referring to the Sovereign Order of Malta, a Roman Catholic organization commited to "defence of the Faith and assistance to the poor and the suffering," according to its website.

"Many of them are members of Opus Dei," Hersh continued. "They do see what they're doing -- and this is not an atypical attitude among some military -- it's a crusade, literally. They see themselves as the protectors of the Christians. They're protecting them from the Muslims [as in] the 13th century. And this is their function."

"They have little insignias, these coins they pass among each other, which are crusader coins," he continued. "They have insignia that reflect the whole notion that this is a culture war. … Right now, there’s a tremendous, tremendous amount of anti-Muslim feeling in the military community.”"

Hersh relayed that he had recently spoken with "a man in the intelligence community... somebody in the joint special operations business" about the downfall of Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali in Tunisia. "He said, ‘Oh my God, he was such a good ally.'"

Gordon was born Ellen Rubin, the daughter of William B. and Cele H. Rubin. She attended Vassar College from 1948 to 1950. While at Vassar, she met and married Melvin J. Gordon, who would later become CEO of Tootsie Roll. The two were married on June 25, 1950 and had four daughters—Virginia, Karen, Wendy, and Lisa.

After her marriage, Ellen Gordon eventually returned to college. She attended Wellesley and received her B.A. in 1965 from Brandeis University. In 1968, Gordon did graduate work at the Graduate School of Arts and Science at Harvard University, which was the same year she started to work at Tootsie Roll.

Gordon has served as President and Board of Director Member of The Committee of 200 and as vice-president and board member of the National Confectioners Association. She has served as director and president of HDI Investment Corporation. She has also sat on the Harvard University Board of Overseers Visiting Committee for the university’s medical and dental schools. She has received a number of honors for her contributions and her work, including the Dean’s Award from the National Candy Wholesalers Association in 1978 and the Kettle Award from the candy industry in 1985.

When the Gordons are not in Chicago, the headquarters of Tootsie Roll Industries, they reside in Center Harbor, New Hampshire. The Gordons eventually hope to turn the business over to their four daughters and to the company’s senior managers.

Career Details
Ellen Gordon’s involvement with Tootsie Roll began in 1922 when the company went public and Gordon’s mother bought some shares of the company stock; she also encouraged all of her relatives to do the same. By the 1930s, she had a controlling interest in the company because of her stock holdings. In 1968 Ellen Gordon went to work for the candy company, starting in the areas of pension planning and product development. Two years later, she had moved into the position of corporate secretary. From there, her rise in the company was steady: vice-president of product development in 1974; senior vice-president in 1976, and president and chief operating officer in 1978.

By all accounts, Tootsie Roll is a sweet place to work . . . literally. Employees are encouraged to sample as many of the confections as they would like during the business day, and Gordon is known as a boss who takes a personal interest in her staff and employees. She greets everyone in the company by name.

Tootsie Roll was started in 1896 by an Austrian immigrant, Leo Hirshfield, who brought his secret candy recipe to the United States and began selling his hand-rolled chocolates for a penny a piece in a small store in New York. Hirshfield named his chocolate candies after his daughter, nicknamed Tootsie, who was five years old at the time.

By the early 1900s the candy was manufactured at a small candy factory. Its name was changed to Sweets Co. of America in 1917, and at that time, the company began to advertise its confection nationally. The company was registered on the New York Stock Exchange by 1922. The Tootsie Pop—a hard lollipop with a chewy Tootsie Roll center—was invented in 1931, and within seven years, the company had moved its operation to Hoboken, New Jersey and began mass production of the candy using conveyor belts.

As demand for the candy increased, the company opened a West Coast division, in Los Angeles in 1949. It wasn’t until 1966 that the company changed its name to Tootsie Roll Industries, Inc. At that time, the corporate headquarters were moved to Chicago, and a manufacturing plant was opened there, too.

When Gordon was named company president and CEO in 1968, she was one of the first women in the country to head a publicly-traded company. She would often get letters, she once said, addressed to Mr. Ellen Gordon or with the greeting, “Dear Mr. Gordon.” In 1993, Gordon proved her executive mettle when she won her company $1.4 million in state and local tax exemptions and other incentives, in exchange for keeping the business in Chicago.

Although Tootsie Roll was worth an estimated $245 million at the time, Gordon managed to obtain a lucrative incentive and benefits package for her more than 800 employees, capitalizing on the fact that the city had suffered a major economic blow the previous year. That move had cost the Windy City 2000 jobs, and officials were willing to negotiate with Gordon to avoid losing another substantial segment of the workforce.

In addition to being the Director and a Senior Fellow of the Institute of Catholic Thought, Dr. Howell is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Program for the Study of Religion in the University of Illinois. Activists on board a six-ship flotilla carrying aid to the Gaza Strip tried to lynch the Israel Navy commandos who boarded their Turkish-flagged boat early Monday, Israel Defense Forces sources told Haaretz on Monday afternoon. At least nine people were killed and several more were wounded in the fighting that erupted aboard one of the ships.

The IDF confirmed that at least seven Navy commandos had been wounded, two of them seriously, in a fight which apparently broke out after activists tried to seize their weapons.

The commandos, who intercepted the Turkish ferry Mavi Marmara after it ignored orders to turn back from its course to Gaza, said they had encountered violent resistance from activists armed with sticks and knives. According to the commandos, the activists threw one of the soldiers from the upper deck to the lower after they boarded. The organizers of the flotilla said the troops opened fire first.

An Israeli military spokesman said some of the commandos were equipped with paintball guns but the non-lethal weapons were not enough against activists who charged in with batons.

"They had pistols with live ammunition as back-up, to defend themselves," he said. The IDF said it had confiscated two pistols from the boat.

One of the commandos told reporters he descended by rope from a helicopter onto one of the six ships in the convoy and was immediately attacked by a group of people waiting for them.

"They beat us with metal sticks and knives," he said. "There was live fire at some point against us."

A Reuters cameraman on the Israel Navy ship Kidon, sailing close to the convoy, said IDF commanders monitoring the operation were surprised by the strong resistance put up by the pro-Palestinian activists.

One of the commandos said some of the soldiers were stripped of their helmets and equipment and a several were tossed from the top deck to a lower deck, forcing them to jump into the sea to escape.

"They jumped me, hit me with clubs and bottles and stole my rifle," one of the commandos said. "I pulled out my pistol and had no choice but to shoot."

ix Iraq war protesters disrupted an Easter Mass on Sunday, shouting and squirting fake blood on themselves and parishioners in a packed auditorium.

Three men and three women startled the crowd during Cardinal Francis George’s homily, yelling “Even the Pope calls for peace” as they were removed from the Mass by security guards and ushers.

One Mass attendee, Mike Wainscott of Chicago, yelled at the anti-war protesters.

“Are you happy with yourselves?” he said. “There were kids in there. You scared little kids with your selfish act. Are you happy now?”

The group, which calls itself Catholic Schoolgirls Against the War, said in a statement after the arrests that they targeted the Holy Name Cathedral on Easter to reach a large audience, including Chicago’s most prominent Catholic citizens and the press, which usually covers the services.

Kevin Clark of International Solidarity Movement told the Chicago Tribune that he attended the Mass to serve as a witness for the protesters.The International Solidarity Movement (ISM) was founded in 2001 by Ghassan Andoni, a Palestinian activist; Neta Golan, an Israeli activist; Huwaida Arraf, a Palestinian-American; and George N. Rishmawi, a Palestinian activist. Adam Shapiro, an American, joined the movement shortly after its founding and is also often considered one of the founders.

According to a 2003 profile of ISM co-founder Adam Shapiro in the Jordan Star, Shapiro “justifies the Palestinian armed resistance against Israel as long as it is targeting Israeli soldiers and Jewish settlers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

ISM was accused of being linked to the suicide bombers that attacked the Mike’s Place bar in Tel Aviv on April 30, 2003, killing three people.

Time Magazine Kicks Catholics -Again. Jesuit America Gave Them Feed

No one hates like a Progressive. They hate coldly, consistently, and methodically. Progressives in the last century bonded ( Woman Suffrage, Hegelian Academics,Pacifists, Prohibitionist, Abortionists, Labor Radicals, and Old Timey Ku Klux Klan Nativists) and forged a coalition that gave America Prohibition. Prohibition was repealed and Progressive melted into the Daffy obscurity from which they sprang.

Post World War II labor strife, the Cold War and the Pill cleared they way again for the Progressive.

Confronting Progressive daffiness unchecked is the Roman Catholic Church. Catholics have rules and traditions going back to the Pentecost. Pete the Fisherman was given the Keys to the Kingdom - Catholics have an unbroken line of succession from Christ to Peter to Benedict XVI.

Progressives hate this and need this Rock eroded. They hate coldly, consistently and methodically.

This week, Time Magazine takes the baton from greasy fingers of a Jesuit Academic who wrote an obscure ( Progressives do love obscure - it's a Hegelian thing) article that kicks the Pope for is rock-solid stand on sexual mores and Life Issues - Rock solid - it is in the Pope's job description.

America is a Jesuit run magazine, that to my mind, is historically pusillanimous. Too many American Catholic academics are self-conscious about their Faith. They are embarrassed to be the tripe-eating, mackerel snapping immigrant readers of Chesterton, Belloc, and Hopkins and want to suck up to the Hellman's Mayonnaise that is American 19th Century Romanticism smeared on Hegelian arugula and white bread sandwich. They reject the sure footed humility of Catholic Thought for the robust wildman homo eroticism of Whitman, Thoreau and Emerson.

Well, boys and girls, the weak sister at America play ball with the Progressive secularists in order not to be ridiculed for eating fish on Friday and following doctrine. Jews ashamed to be Jews? I have yet to meet one. Baptists and Lutherans are comfortable in their skins. Catholics? They can be really mealy-mouthed and fawning. Most Catholic working folks are as tough-minded and devout as their grandparents were, but some college papered "I'm a Cultural Catholic -more Spiritual than Anything" Milksops think that being a lick-spittle go-along will gain entree to the Progressive Pantheon. No it won't. You just be a tool and a dull tool at best.
Speaking of tools . . . America set the stage for the coming week's Time Cover Issue that assaults the Catholic Church again.

"NEW YORK, May 20, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A column for the Jesuit magazine America, in which Rev. James Martin, S.J. criticized Pope Benedict XVI's pro-life and pro-family message in Portugal as "bizarre," and implied it was contrary to the Gospel, has been revised to omit the strongest language.

Martin, who serves as Culture Editor at the publication, took issue with the pope's recent statement that abortion and same-sex "marriage" rank among "some of today’s most insidious and dangerous threats to the common good."

"The equation of abortion, something that clearly is about a threat to life, with same-sex marriage, which no matter how you look at it, does not mean that anyone is going to die, is bizarre," he wrote. In a later version of the column, "bizarre" was deleted and replaced with "unhelpful at best."

Wrote the priest: "Why has same-sex marriage been equated with abortion? Are they really equivalent 'threats' to life?

"If you’re looking for a life issue with stakes as high as abortion, why not something that actually threatens life? Like war? Or the death penalty? Or the kind of poverty and destitution that lead to death?" he continued. "The great danger is that this increasingly popular equation will seem to many as having less to do with moral equivalency and more to do with a simple dislike, or even a hatred, of gays and lesbians.

The final sentence, which read, "And that goes against not simply Catholic teaching, but against the Gospel," was removed from the column as of Thursday. . . .


If the Holy Father's proclamation of the unchanging truth makes Father Martin uncomfortable, then it's time for Father Martin to hang up his collar," wrote Euteneuer. "How dare he misrepresent His Holiness's intent just to ingratiate himself further with the secular left, who find no sin in homosexual behavior! How dare he even imply that the Holy Father, by speaking the truth, somehow contradicts the Gospel and Catholic teaching!

"That such an offense would come from within the bowels of America Magazine is perhaps predictable, but no less infuriating."

Time Magazine is cold, consistent and methodical. The Pope will not yield, because the Church can not yield. The Church can not say that murder is choice; homosexuality is just fine for the propagation of Man; Jesus was a Woman; Peter was Transgender; Natural Law is Artificial; Abortion is Life; Euthanasia is an HBO prerogative.
