I don't know about you, neighbor, but I have never cottoned to Governor Bruce Rauner. Just can not snuggle up to the notion that he is on the up-and-up.
Maybe it has something to do with the company he keeps
Maybe it is his love of abortion
Maybe it's how idiotic he looks on his Harley
Whatever. As Jesse Jackson ( pere) might say, "Bruce got voted in because he was not Pat Quinn/Vote Him Out cuz He's a Lout!
I don't believe that Bruce Rauner, wants Bruce Rauner in Springfield. Let's send him back to his vaults, where he can find peace and contentment.
Bruce looks bad as Governor.
Jeanne Ives not only looks good; she does good!
Join me and Chicago Renaissance Man Mike Houlihan as we hop on the Jeanne Ives for Governor Bandwagon over the next few days! We shall have much more to say and do in the coming days!

I was shocked, outraged, incesned, vexed and very nearly driven to rile this morning when both Chicago dailys blasted these headlines:
Trump moved to fire Mueller in June, bringing White House counsel to brink of resignation! Chicago Tribune Trump ordered Mueller Fired, But White House Counsel Threatened to Quit! Chicago Sun Times
You see Robert Mueller is the John Kerry impersonator and Special Russian Collusion Prosecutor and who is going to give President Trump a long over due and well earned chide and come-uppance.
The smartest people like David Brooks and his minion E.J. Dionne predict a that President 45 might endure the humilitation of being taken down a peg.
Most expect a culpatory dressing down.

ORLAND PARK, IL -- An Orland Park nurse and a Chicago doctor were among seven passengers killed this weekend in the Philippines, when their tour van crashed into a tree while on a medical mission trip to help people in remote areas of the country. Aurora M. Gagni, a nurse from Orland Park, and Nunilo Rubio Sr., an well-known endocrinologist from Chicago, died in the crash, according to local news reports. The 24-year-old driver of the bus reportedly told police that he had fallen asleep at the wheel. The Patch
"Hey, Shit-for-Brains, get that little Filipino nurse for me. The other one hurts me. Got hands like a damn Hun. Hell, she is a Hun!" - the late Oliver Duval -Born: July 14, 1899; Died: June 1, 1990 Herscher, IL
My wife Mary's grandfather and I were pals. He was one tough old bird, WWI AEF veteran, mean as a bag of snakes Frenchman from Kankakee County. He was tall, wiry and witty. Had Indian cheekbones and delighted in scaring goofs, pests, priests, half-wits and blowhards. You had to return his barbs to get his respect. I was the above-mentioned sobriquet.
However, kindness, professionalism and unadulterated sweetness trumped everything with Oliver. When he was finally relegated to a nursing home in 1989, like most of America's elderly, was treated to modest care from every American care-giver but Filipino-Americans and recent immigrants.
Today, I read about the Orland Park couple who died in crash, upon their return home on a medical mission and recalled all of the nurses, doctors and technicians who treated my dying wife with such tenderness and generous skills.
People from the Philippines seem as fitted to the medical and care professions as Austrians to Alpine Sports. They are most suited to the vocations that palliate physical pain and salve suffering. So I looked up a Stanford University study on this topic and found that Filipino cultural values tend to make them extraordinary care-givers. Especially to the elderly.
My mother has spent many months in rehab at age 9. . . I won't go there. And how she is treated is of paramount concern to her children and grandchildren.
I remark on this because several of her care-givers are from the Philippines. The Stanford study on Filipino elders explains a great deal.
Smooth interpersonal relationships are a major component of the Filipino core value kapwa, defined as “shared identity, interacting on an equal basis with a fellow human being.” It is expressed as sensitivity and regard for others, respect and concern, helping out, understanding and making up for others’ limitations, rapport and acceptance, and comradeship (Agoncillo & Guerrero, 1987; Enriquez, 1994). Traditional psychosocial interactions or pakikipagkapwa occur in the external domain or ibang tao and the internal domain or hindi ibang tao. Levels of relationships in the first domain consist of: civility (pakikitungo), mixing (pakikisalamuha), joining/participating (pakikilahok), and adjusting (pakikisama). The second domain includes: mutual trust/rapport (pakikipagpalagayan ng loob), getting involved (pakikisangkot), and oneness, full trust (pakiisa) (Enriquez, 1994; PePua, 1990). . . . Many contemporary Filipino American families continue to function in a complex process of a natural support system of reciprocity within interdependent/dependent relationships based on extended family membership, group harmony and loyalty, respect for elders and authority, and kinship that goes beyond strong biological connections (McBride & Parreno, 1996; Miranda, McBride, & Anderson, 2000; Superio, 1993; Tompar-Tiu and Sustento-Seneriches, 1995). In a study of filial responsibility, young first and second generation Filipino Americans and older adults strongly agree that children should be taught to care for elders and take care of aging parents (Superio, 1993). . . .
And most telling is this very 'unscientific' application of care
A consistent theme in health and caregiving studies on Filipino Americans is the importance of prayer, church affiliation, spiritual fellowship, and spiritual counseling. Studies have shown that having the capacity to practice one’s faith can be a measure of wellness (Valencia-Go, 1989). Using prayer and spiritual counseling can be a part of a treatment plan with assistance from a traditional healer or a clergy (Tompar-Tiu & Sustento-Seneriches, 1995). Some elders and their families consider physical or emotional pain as a challenge to one’s spirituality (Grudzen, McBride, & Thom, 2000). These findings are important indicators that a segment of Filipino American elders and their families incorporate and value a spiritual dimension in their daily life.
No wonder so many natives of the Philippines are caregivers - they have a faith-system as a foundation . . ." first and second generation Filipino Americans and older adults strongly agree that children should be taught to care for elders and take care of aging parents." How many of us do the same?
Six Dems and only one allowable pick: not the Kennedy, not the Doc, not the Ganger-banger Alumnus, not the Progressive Boy Toy and not Pension Heavy Dude from Marine, IL.
Nope, the only Democrat that 'sane, pot-smart, never-Trumping, Rahm-friendly and comfortable P-Hat voters' may cast a ballot for is Michigan Avenue Fats - J.B. Pritzker the Trump-thumping billionaire who is more of a Regular Joe and than Old Bruce, in the same way that Charlie Foster Kane was no Boss Gettys.
Mark Brown pooh-poohed the five ( as too many to debate Carol Marin) , only weeks after he took a huge, hairy dump on Chris Kennedy's chances with his ambush piece; now, along with the always dependable Eric Zorn, charge Chris Kennedy with being a Rauner cheerleader. The oligarchs have bull-dozed an extra wide path to the Governor's door for J.B. Pritzker. They'll adjust the that door in due time.
Nope, if a voter wants Rauner gone and knows that Pritzker will only double -down on Illinois miseries, the only choice, short of a cast-away protest vote, is to take a ballot for Jeanne Ives and make damn sure it registers.
Yep, the skinny blonde girl for Governor. Unless, of course, you are quite happy with way things are now. And what is that gump staring at?
Just as every cop is a criminalAnd all the sinners saintsAs heads is tailsJust call me Lucifer'Cause I'm in need of some restraint - Sympathy for the Devil 1968
1968 - Jon Burge was an MP in Vitenam and G. Flint Taylor was the mouth-piece for the Black Panthers. I was a junior at Little Flower High School.
2018 - Jon Burge is out of jail for perjury, but has never been chraged or convicted of torture. G. Flint Taylor is a millionaire. I teach high school social justice.
Last week, G. Flint Taylor made another run at getting cop-killer Jackie Wilson out of prison - Taylor wants Wilson re-tried in the comfortable atmosphere created by Taylor and other lawyers getting rich in the Wrongful Everything to Do With Justice Industry, as well as the generations of lazy, or agenda addicted members of the Chicago Media.
This atmosphere is a Gordian-knot compostiion of doctrines ( all police departmenst are fundmentally racist; police use torture gratuitously; Jon Burge used Vietnam era torture devices, as well as garden variety brutality to harm only African Americans in Chicago; Ellected officials care only about elections and will go along with anything; Justice must be tried in the court of public opinion; train journalism students to become active agents in the Wrongful Induistry; accept no inquiry; be patient) that over the last forty years has made Chicago a Thug Comfort Zone.
Thanks to G. Flint Taylor's mythopoeic mastery of the media in Chicago, the leftist philanthropic culture, the cowardly mayors and aldermen, and the elimination of historical truths in public education police officers wear body cameras, unless detailed to Rahm Emanuel's home, get charged with anything that might make a mistake look like racism, second guess any and all use of force tactics, while career criminals and savage thugs know that the race card is a get-out-of-jail free card acceptable at The Peoples Law Office, City Hall, Medill Law and Journalism, The Bluhm Centers, Cook County Building, WTTW, The Tribune, The Sun Times and lovingly, The Chicago Reader. G. Flint Taylor has influenced more generations to go along with his myths and pleadings and longer than Hitler, Stalin, Mao, or Uncle Ho could ever dreamt and all through the media. He was the mouth-piece for the Black Panthers, tried to Free Mumia, helped sanitize Bernardine Dorhn and her cartoonish old man, Bill Ayers, and dangled 501(c) 3 millions from the Ivory Towers of University of Chicago and Northwestern University before the grasping hands of lawyers and felons as well as millions of tax-payer dollars as well.
G. Flint Taylor needed no beer hall putsch, or Little Red Book; rather, selective memory, intellectual weakness, judge shopping and time itself, has poured the blood into Taylor's cement mix.
Since 1968, the year His Satanic Majesty provided us with some sympathy and taste, G. Flint Taylor's rock-samba of American imperialism brutality has played at ear shattering levels in print and in the Dirksen Federal Center.
Taylor and Jeffery Haas, co-founder of Peoples Law Office, formed their Marxist band of legal goblins on south Dearborn ( later on Milwaukee Avenue) with money from the World Council of Churches' American branch The National Council of Churches. This is from the dubious pen of the late Robert McClory:
The logical question, of course, is how and why Haas and Taylor keep fighting. It is understandable that the survivors of the Panther affair and the relatives of Hampton and Clark would like a measure of vengeance (and some cash) for what they have always perceived as a cold-blooded execution. But those friends and relatives are not independently wealthy, and they have contributed virtually nothing of their personal assets to the cost of prosecution, raised small amounts through benefits and fun raisers. The National Council of Churches made a donation.
Personal sacrifices to the greater good? Rent in Lakeview, where both lived according to McClory, whose sole purpose in life was create urban legends out of leftists, was always high, even in the 1970's. The Burge Mythology is now taught as a scoial science in Chicago Public Schools.
Jon Burge was convicted of perjury after years of media bear-baiting and legal legerdemain.
G. Flint Taylor and legions of other fatuous opportunists have made fortunes by playing media, do-gooders and generations of young people completely unaquainted with the facts of the murders, arrests, convictions and subsequent judge shopping by Peoples Law Office, MacArthur Center for Justice, Loevy & Loevy.
There has been absolutely no proof of torture – hundreds of allegations and millions of dollars in payouts -but not one win in G.Flint Taylor’s column.
Jon Burge was trapped in a legal maze created by time, judge shopping, media complicity and collective memory loss.
When torture appears, deal with it. That has yet to be proven. Truth is not something “We Can All Agree Upon.” That is John Dewey.
What strikes me is the money trail of WCC and the NCC that leads directly to the KGB - the former Soviet secret police. No journalist in Chicago wants a Pulitzer denied due such an inquiry.
Instead, Taylor poisons the landscape with pieces like his recent In These Times article:
In Chicago, the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), a longtime supporter of racist police torturer Jon Burge, is now seeking to circumvent court orders that preserve and make public the police misconduct files of repeater cops such as Burge, by seeking to enforce a police contract provision that calls for the destruction of the files after seven years. And in a show of solidarity with the killer of Michael Brown, Chicago’s FOP is soliciting contributions to the Darren Wilson defense fund on its website.
Such reactionary actions by police unions are not new, but are a fundamental component of their history, particularly since they came to prominence in the wake of the civil rights movement. These organizations have played a powerful role in defending the police, no matter how outrageous and racist their actions, and in resisting all manner of police reforms.
As a high school teacher and citizen of Chicago, I demand that the so-called watch-dogs ask G. Flint Taylor some thoughtful, tough and compelling questions. Until something like that happens, G. Flint Taylor will bully judges like Hooks into releasing murdering thugs like Jackie Wilson.
What is your connection to the bombings in Oakland committed by Dohrn and the Weather Underground?
Who ordred the murder of CPD officers Gilhooley and Rappaport* in November 1969?
Why is Judge Gettleson always your go-to-guy?
Where is Frank Sirtoff? Tell us all about him?
Who paid John Conroy?
Have you ever been to Russia?
How did you land Judge Hooks for your Jackie Wilson gambit?
Why do you hate black people who are not felons?
Why do you owe Gator Bradley money?
These might be a simple begining of the media having much less sympathy for Chicago's devil.
Who,who, who, whoooo!
*Patrolman John Gilhooly and Patrolman Frank Rappaport
Chicago Police Department November 13, 1969
Officer John J. Gilhooly and Officer Frank G. Rappaport were ambushed by a member of the radical group Black Panthers on a false call of a “man with a gun”.
As the officers entered a gangway between two buildings the man opened fire with a shotgun from a porch below, striking Officer Rappaport in the chest and Officer Gilhooly in the face and neck. The suspect then shot Officer Rappaport again as he lay on the ground, killing him.
Gilhooly was survived by his father, brother and sister.
Pound Road
There was a place in dear Castleisland,
Pound Road it was its name,
It housed the finest people,
Kind and caring just the same.
There were Murphys, Sullivans and Brosnans, Berminghams and Morans too,
Danahars, Conways and Buckleys and McCarthy to mend your shoe.
There were Dennehys, Griffins and Savages and Prendivilles - who are our kin,
We'll not forget those people for that would be a sin.
There were carpenters, and undertakers, cobblers and a bell-man too,
Fishmongers and horse barbers - none were idle I assure you.
Times were tough back in the 40s to make a bob or two,
No bother to these people - they were smarter that (sic) me and you.
One day there came a letter, their little homes would have to go,
They'd be moved to better houses - away from heil and snow.
But their way of life had ended, 'twas the end of an era you see,
They had to leave their little cottages - where they never used a key.
In my home I hung a calendar with their names and history,
I smile and think about them when recession blares from TV,
Those folks survived in harder times but their hearts and minds were free,
They lived each day as best they could with a chat and a mug of tea.
When in your cosy beds at night, will you say a little prayer,
For all who've gone before us, in whose footsteps we will dare,
Their simplicity and their courage an inspiration to us all.
We think of our relations, bould Tom and Sonny Bawn. from The Kerryman
This offering might not pass the poetry finger test , but County Kerry has the most (37) GA football titles and Castleisland is once again the widest street next to O'Connell Street in Ireland. Dactyls and spondees and rhetorical flourishings aside, the vocation of the horse barber grabbed me.
County Kerry, ladies and gents! And you wonder how I got this way.
It is what they do. Progressives are creeps. They are not Democrats. They are not Liberals. They are anything but decent and forthright people. If you think that is a bit harsh, do a favor for one.

I saw Forrest Claypool at a Democratic Regular fundraiser at Bourbon Street about ten years ago and a week later the Sun-Times ran a smear on a guest two weeks later - subsequently retracted.
I witnessed Jan Schakowsky bully an Asian girl at Alex Giannoulias's kick-off speech at the Hilton, because Jan was late and was not allowed to push other people out of theway in order to stand next to Senator Obama . No, the little Asian volunteer did not know who Comrade Jan was and was subjected to all kinds of un-PC racist dressing down. My ten year old daughter asked, "What is wrong with that woman, Dad?"
I answered, " That is a Progressive. Stay away from them."
Well, yesterday, my Congressman Dan Lipinski took two shivs in the kidneys from Comrade Jan and Luis El Piojo .
The best political reporter in Chicago writes for Politico, without Fran Spielman's bootlicking deference to City Hall and Michael Sneed's gate-crashing idiocies. Natasha Korecki gives the low-down on the Lown-down shameless Progressive Playbook:
Natasha Report in Full:
LIPINSKI KNIFED BY HIS OWN PARTY
When two veteran members of Congress kicked to the curb one of their own colleagues on Wednesday, even they called it unprecedented.
U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky and U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, both Democrats, held a news conference to condemn fellow Democrat Rep. Dan Lipinski for his relatively conservative views and back his little-known primary opponent Marie Newman.
“It’s not easy to endorse a challenger for a colleague in the House of Representatives. Especially when that colleague is a member of your own party,” Gutierrez said at the news event on the Hill. “This is a very special, and, I think, dangerous time in the United States of America.”
The public shunning of a colleague for their positions on issues alone is almost unheard of in Congress. It’s a violation of the so-called “club rules.” If it’s done, it happens quietly, behind the scenes. For progressive groups angling to oust Lipinski, however, this is the Democrat’s comeuppance for years of bad votes. Gutierrez and Schakowsky both cited Lipinski’s opposition to abortion and past votes on immigration as out of step with his district.
“I assure you that this district is overwhelmingly pro-choice,” Schakowsky said.
Did Lipinski feel betrayed? “Jan has worked against me in the past. She’s never come out formally against me. Her husband has been straight about working against me,” Lipinski said in an interview with POLITICO. “It certainly does not surprise me. Even though I have supported her when she ran for vice chair of the caucus … I’ve been back and forth with Luis. He’s been with me, he’s not been with me. I’m not sure what his future is.” Lipinski defended his stance on immigration and said he’s worked for five months on a bipartisan agreement on DACA. He seemed to indicate it was his style as much as his positions that were under attack.
“I put in a lot of hard work trying to get this done. I’m a workhorse, I’m not a showboat,” he said. “I’m a problem solver. I see myself as a common sense Democrat. Some people want to be bomb throwers, they’re more interested in rhetoric than results.” Full story will be posted later at Politico.com and http://www.politico.com/news/illinois
SETTLING SCORES? Democrats privately questioned whether the retiring Gutierrez was settling a score by going against Lipinski and thus Mike Madigan, a longtime ally of Lipinski’s father.
“He jettisoned, 50-60,000 voters. Not Latino voters, not black voters. White voters, from his district. Wah-la they showed up in the 4th congressional district! I was happy to get them. Then all of a sudden I have the zoo. Brookfield Zoo … Just think about it. Pilsen, Little Village, Humboldt Park, Back of the Yards,” he said. “He did it because he was running away from progressive Democrats.”
Gutierrez told us later his point was that Lipinski wanted to export that population because areas like Berwyn and Brookfield were turning too progressive. “He didn’t get rid of them because of race. It was ideological,” he said.
LUIS FOR MADIGAN! Gutierrez said he had no issue with the remap. In fact, he said the General Assembly accommodated him when he moved out of his district. “I got my house included. I called my state reps and state senators, and said 'please, I moved,'” Gutierrez said. “They're wrong. this has nothing to do with that. I supported [Mike Madigan] three years ago. I did radio commercials, direct mail appeals. If the speaker calls me tonight and said he needed my help, I would jump on the first plane and go help him get reelected.”
As I told my daughter years ago -"Progressives - stay away from them." Thank you Natsha Koreki!
(Marie) Newman has also received a groundswell of support and endorsements from national progressive groups, including NARAL Pro-Choice America, MoveOn.org, Democracy for America, Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Human Rights Campaign for LGBTQ equality. Progressives see this as their first real chance to unseat the entrenched congressman. Newman says Lipinski is "running scared." The Patch
If those groups are for Mrs. Newman, how could I vote for her? If one is happy about abortion, abortion funding, George Soros- backed stooge-groups and every light-weight news source in America, one is happy with our move to oligarchy.
Rep. Dan Lipinski has been the voice of the 3rd Congressional District from the moment he took office and has eclipsed the work of father in so doing.
Mrs. Newman is said to be polling 5 points ahead of Congressman Lipinksi in the same manner that HRC was sure to beat the pants off of The Donald. Polling must be an easy science - for pollsters like the Paul Simon Institute and Normington Petts, which polls Newman over Lipinski by 5%!
Well the Bobak, the Jack & Pat's and the Karolinka Club polling is not going to appear in the Huffington Post; neither will Mrs. Newman appear in Congress.
I was delighted to be greeted by Brother Rice (2017) alumnus Chris Hernandez who is studying political science and intends to take a law degree upon graduation from college. The number of teens and young people like Chris (above) floored me. Maybe the tide has turned against abortion; used be that Pro-life was the 50-90 demographic. There were many south side schools including Marist and Mother McAuley, St. Laurence represented in Daley Plaza.
I recognized many of my neighbors, escpecially the Chicago Police Officers detailed to keep counter protesters from disrupting the program. My Leo High School winter coat brought out many welcomes from the boys and girls in blue and black.
The weather was bracing, bracing; Bergoff's was closed and so I remained mind on task.
I would put the crowd at 2,000 and all were very courteous, welcoming and life affirmimg.
There were about two dozen counter-protestors with very good bull-horns and bad manners.
Today Chicagoans, as well as scores of suburban citizens, will meet at Federal Plaza to protest the American Genocide for the 10th time. Today is the March for Life.
You will not find this event in the Tribune or the Sun Times - The Patch has it. How many will brave cold and wind to pray away America's slaughter of the innocents? If thousand show up, I am sure it will be recorded as " a few dozen."
Since 1973, America has declined as the moral force and beacon of hope on this planet.
America will never be great again, until Roe v. Wade is overturned.
The two Chicago papers print every exchange between two Anti-Trumpers, every hint and rumor of racism and all of the salacious nonsense eminating from the American Entertainment Class.
Rex Hupke of the Tribune is taking down names of people who are not outraged by Trump potty mouth-geography. I am not. He's correct. Haiti is a shithole, in the same way that my grandmother scorned the poverty and hopelessness of Ireland when she was 13 years old - never to return, but she did get all six of her little sisters to Chicago.
Lynn Sweet of Sun Times gives global props to the most practiced hypocrite in Washington D.C. - Dick Durbin who did not confront president Trump over 'vile' thoughts words and deeds
I don't March. I find it to be a self-serving and self-satisfying exercise that never makes a difference in anything. I have proudly walked labor picket lines and never crossed one. I will go to Federal Plaza. I hope that thousands do as well.
Our media and our Chicago, Cook County and Illinois elected officials are fine with abortion. If you are OK with abortion, you will be agreeable to anything. Nothing is too outrageous for you.
Save your public outrage, if you are for abortion. You are wasting oxygen.
"[Because] the proletariat is still so divided, so degraded, so corrupted in parts ... that an organization taking in the whole proletariat cannot directly exercise proletarian dictatorship. It can be exercised only by a vanguard that has absorbed the revolutionary energy of the class." —Lenin, explaining the increasingly dictatorial nature of the regime
A “totalitarian regime?” And here we thought we lived in Chicago, a city struggling with problems of violence, poverty and racism, but full of people — including more than a few in City Hall — making a good-faith effort to get things right. Chicago Sun Times Editorial Board
In addition to the Chicago Federation of Labor, union investors include SEIU Local 1 and Operating Engineers Local 150. In a way, the investment group resembles the city itself—or, at least, the people who run it. Columbia Journalism Review
Chris Kennedy is a good guy.
A Good guy has no business playing with Progressives/
Progressives are not liberal Democrat; they are Stalinists drooling to denounce . . .anyone.
Chris Kennedy noted Rahm Emanuel's 'small urban center' plans for Chicago are forcing black families out of the city.
The Sun Times is progressive and the voice of its masters -the oligarchs who run this city.
The dodge is that Labor owns the Sun Times. Labor's investment dollars are the mere candy-coating.
This is an organ of the oligarchs - the plutocrats like our Governor and our Governor to be, as well as the Axelrods, Obamas, Eychaners, Emanuels, Claypools, Preckwinkles, Cosgroves and Pritzkers who reap millions of dollars from what they sow - discontent, chaos, racial antipathy, confusion and anger.
Chris Kennedy got himself on the wrong side of oligarchical history last week and is enduring the death by a thousand cuts from the master race-baiters of the Chicago media.
The Sun Times has a decades long record of playing the race card and today they mapped out the lessons Chris Kennedy must learn, if he wants back in with the powers that is.
Kennedy is playing a dangerous game. He is playing the race card unfairly, knowing that’s the quickest way to get a headline in Chicago. But playing the race card — in this case without the goods — also is the quickest way to destroy a reputation, divide us against each other, and set back whatever progress in racial fairness our city has made.
Or translated into regular Chicagoan, When are you going to stop hitting yourself, Chris Kennedy? Stop hitting yourself! Why are you hitting yourself?
The above is the familiar sound of pissy little sneaks.
Chris Kennedy is a good guy.
A good guy would tell the Sun Times to duck off, . . . or something that sounds like that.
Gee, and people think that the media is really fouled up.
Well, I read about Oprah's soaring rhetoric this morning in the Sun Times - the always hysterical gate-crashing, mouth-breather Richard Roeper:
Oprah for president!
This was one of Winfrey’s finest moments, in ways big and small. “I want all the girls watching here to know that a new day is on the horizon!” she exclaimed.
She personally thanked the legendary TV exec Dennis Swanson, who hired her to host a show called “A.M. Chicago,” which eventually became “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Such a classy gesture.
She said: “We all know the press is under siege these days, but we also know that it is the insatiable dedication to uncovering the absolute truth that keeps us from turning a blind eye to corruption and to injustice. … I value the press more than ever before …”
. . . And she said these words that should be etched in stone:
"I want tonight to express gratitude to all the women who have endured years of abuse and assault, because they — like my mother — had children to feed and bills to pay and dreams to pursue. They’re the women whose names we’ll never know. They are domestic workers and farm workers; they are working in factories and they work in restaurants, and they’re in academia and engineering and medicine and science; they’re part of the world of tech and politics and business; they’re our athletes in the Olympics and they’re our soldiers in the military … "
And I asked myself, " What if there were only one emoji? Hmmmmm????
I thought The Golden Globes was a '70's soft-core porn epic starring Debra Messing and Rip Taylor.
What do I know. I watched Alan Ladd and Van Heflin take on a huge-ass tree stump, a gang of cattle barons who hate stump-jumpers in an epic bar room brawl and then each other, leaving Allan Ladd to ride endlessly back to town make Jack Palance eat lead.
Our Next President? Shane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please, Come Back!!!!!!!!!!!!
Zeus Preckwinkle is out of town, but might have made the call on Chris Kennedy.
Chris Kennedy is a good guy and as I said yesterday, a good guy has no business hanging around a Progressive Democrat (Prog Dem).
Prog Dems are not liberals; they are Stalinists with East Bank Club memberships and Brooks Brothers Gold Cards.
Chris Kennedy, the scion of Robert Kennedy and nephew of JFK - the American Gracchi, grew up in the shadows of history and myth making; he became a solid, honest and sincere man who is willing to quietly fight poverty and lift people up.
Prog Dems never do that.
I have witnessed Chris Kennedy lend a pair of hands to Catholic Charities (1120 W 79th St, Chicago, IL 60620) humping boxes of food and warm clothing that he bought for distribution - without ever saying, " Do you know who I am?" He never had a squad of Sun Times ink-slingers at his beck and call like the Nordic Jesus who Popes-up the neighborhood.
Chris Kennedy is among the oligarchs of Chicago but he is not with them. He Kennedy is a great name to appoint to a Blue Ribbon panel or a directorship, but he is too honest to drawn into the circle of Prog favor. Chris Kennedy kept terrorist comic-strip academic Bil Ayers from getting Emeritus status with University of Illinois. Ayers remains a player in the cook County oligarchy. Ayers helped make Venezuela what it is today and hopes to see Metro Chicago do the same.
The Kennedys are welcome to the Prog Dem banquet, but assigned a table near the men's room exit.
Note this observation from Joel Kotkin fro 2008, when Bloomberg and Schumer checked Caroline Kennedy from folowing Hillary Clinton into the Senate:
. . . the current gentry liberals increasingly reflect the biases of their own social class. The upper echelons of Wall Street, academe and the media have been moving toward what passes for the "left" for over a generation. Ironically, this movement became most evident in the early 1960s in the elite support that gathered around Caroline's father, John, who brought with him into office "the best and brightest."
As historian Fred Siegel has noted, the Kennedy phenomena differed greatly – in both style and substance – from the "lunch pail" liberalism epitomized by President Harry Truman and, to an extent, that of both Lyndon Johnson and his vice president, Hubert Humphrey. Their Democratic party was sustained by appealing to the economic interests of working and middle-class Americans.
As opposed to gentry politics, whose bastions lay in fashionable urban districts and college towns, Truman-style democracy reached into the vast suburban dreamscape – even into small towns and rural areas.
Over recent years this version of the party, with its more geographically diverse middle-class base, has lost influence. It's been a process of both addition and subtraction.
A series of strong Republican politicians since Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan lured many middle-income voters out of the Democratic Party by appealing to their patriotism, economic self-interest and, in some cases, prejudices.
At the same time, the core of the elite liberal constituency – academics, high-tech businesspeople and media figures – has been growing steadily in wealth and influence. By marrying this constituency to poor minority voters, gentry liberals have turned our core urban areas into a collection of electoral "ditto heads," with so-called "progressives" winning as much as 70 or 80% of the vote in presidential elections.
This year's thrilling primary battle between Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama represented a clash of these two tendencies. Although Clinton herself enjoyed strong ties to some gentry liberals, she campaigned, particularly toward the end of the marathon, as Harry Truman in a bright pantsuit. Obama, for his part, sallied forth from a solid base of academics and well-educated professionals, as well as African Americans. (emphases my own)
Caroline Kennedy became Ambasador to Japan as a participant trophy and America got another harpy in place of Hillary - Kirsten Gillbrand
The Prog Dems have rewired the Democratic Party so that it is set to blow -up rather than divert the charted course.
Chris Kennedy found this out last week when he called out the conspiracy to kick people out of the city - his only mistake was in pointing only to the black people. The Prog Dems want all middle class helots gone - White, Black, Brown and Rainbow. If you refer to your Zipcode as a neighborhood, you gotta go. If have a wife and kids - out you go. You have the wrong attitude for a Smart-sized, secular, bike friendly urban paradise with plenty of green open space free of kids for community members with oodles of disposable cash, income and especially inherited wealth.
Chris Kennedy brought a torch into the cave created by the Sun Times, Chicago Tribune, WGN, WTTW, WBEZ, The Reader and the good folks at Disney where news is displayed with a pen-light. For that transgression he will have his liver eaten by Eric Zorn, Neil Steinberg, Mary Mitchell, Carol Marin and Mark Brown for weeks to come.
JB Pritzker is the Prog Dem's porkier Kirsten Gillibrand. Chris Kennedy is a nice guy, but no Caroline Kennedy and Rahm and Fred Eychaner are not about to appoint Mr. Kennedy Ambassador to Japan.
Dad always said that I couldn't find my butt with both hands. I can. Allow me to add this imperative -“Defend the unborn against abortion even if they persecute you, calumniate you, set traps for you, take you to court or kill you." - Pope Francis to celebrate Pro-life Mass, Vatican
"You stand up for what you believe in, even if it gets in the way of what other people think. You are proud of yourself and your accomplishments and you enjoy letting people know that."
A peach of a guy with all the sweetness one could expect from a life well-spent and in good company: short on brains but a terrific dancer!
