CTA CEO Terry Peterson is not Black -He's Pure Gold! Remember Ald. Tom Murphy?

Cook County Circuit Court Judge Tom Murphy was the Alderman of the 18th Ward. The 18th Ward was remapped in order to make Tom Murphy 'demographically un-electable.' You see Tom Murphy was a real public servant - he was not a grand-standing blow-hard with an an on-going stool on the panels at WTTW.

As an Alderman, Tom Murphy represented his Ward and often found himself at odds with Mayor Daley. Murphy voted against property tax increases and raises for the City Council; can't have that.

The 18th Ward was re-mapped with many of the white precincts eliminated. The thoughts were that African American voters would only vote for an African American. Tom Murphy won in a landslide against four African American candidates. Then the City Council Black Caucus refused to allow Tom Murphy, who represented the African American families of the 18th Ward, to sit in the Black Caucus. The grand-standing blow-hards with on-going stools on the panels at WTTW played race against Tom Murphy.

This was one sweet bit of pure Tom Murphy from that campaign -

But Murphy said he doesn't believe the ward is split either racially or geographically. "I see it as a ward of 57,000 taxpayers," he said. "I see it as my job to treat everybody the same."

And he blames the media for reducing the ward's politics to a contest between black and white voters.

Today, grand-standing blow-hards with on-going stools on the panels at WTTW are beefing that the Emanuel Administration has no blacks at the top.

“For some black aldermen who must approve the appointments, it was another slap in the face. The only African-American member of Emanuel’s public safety team is former Chicago Police officer Felicia Davis, who will serve as deputy chief-of-staff for public safety.

Nobody is black at the top. At least Mayor Daley did have some African-Americans around him. It appears now that Mayor Emanuel has no blacks around him,” said Ald. Carrie Austin (34th), chairman of the City Council’s Budget Committee.

Reminded that newly-appointed Schools CEO Jean Claude Brizard is black, Austin said, “That’s not us. Even though that’s a sister agency of ours, that’s not in this City Hall.”

Ald. Pat Dowell (3rd) noted that Emanuel’s landslide victory was sealed by carrying every one of the city’s black wards.

“There is a dearth of African-American professionals evident in his current team,” Dowell said.

Another slap in the face! Man, is that one tired string of nonsense. Race-baiters need new rhetoric.

Get this.
Ald. Howard Brookins (21st) added, “I’ve heard in the community, even with respect to Mr. Brizard, that he’s not from here. He’s not [really] African-American. He was born in Haiti. We just hope that we would be able to get some local folks. … Hopefully, this isn’t a sign of things to come — that it’s all outside people. But, we’ll see.”

Yeah, them Haitians look like Swedes, Howard.

Really? When did Terry Peterson get so pale?

Terry Peterson is, by the way an African American. More importantly, Terry Peterson is one of the best people in public service. Terry Peterson represented the 17th Ward at the same time that Tom Murphy represented the 18th Ward.

Terry Peterson ran the CHA. Terry Peterson ran Daley's re-election campaigns. Terry Peterson directed Rahm Emanuel's Campaign. Terry Peterson is CEO of the CTA.

Terry Peterson will see that career appointee Forest Claypool does not have too difficult a time as President of CTA. Voila!

Claypool replaces Richard Rodriguez, but Emanuel said he has asked Rodriguez to consider serving his administration in a different capacity.

Emanuel also announced that Terry Peterson, another longtime Daley loyalist, would continue as chairman of the CTA board.

But for his first transportation department commissioner, Emanuel looked beyond the city limits to tab Gabe Klein, a former Washington, D.C., official.

Tuesday’s announcement came a day after the mayor-elect presented Jean-Claude Brizard as his choice for CEO of the Chicago Public Schools.

Still on Emanuel’s to-do list before his May 16 inauguration is appointing a new police superintendent.

T'ain't no where near May 16, by my guesstimations. Still, the media need to get that slap in the face out there. Folks gotta be slug-nutty with them slaps in the face. Race matters. . . to boneheads and phonies.

Tom Murphy was a great alderman, black, white, lavender, or crimson. Terry Peterson is not black; he is gold.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel -Congratulations!

On September 13, 2010, I wrote on this blog,

The next Chicago Mayor will be either Oliver Cromwell* (someone take out a Cliffs Notes for the Progressives and explain the Lor' Protector's Commonwealth modus operandi following the collapse of Charles I Stuart's reign)or Happy Hooligan.

Rahm Emanuel is no Happy Hooligan. Last night, Rahm Emanuel won a compelling 55.2% of the votes cast. He has a solid mandate.

I voted for Matt O'Shea (19th Ward Alderman) and Gery Chico in this go-around. Matt O'Shea won by a landslide and Gery Chico did OK.

The City of Chicago looks pretty, but is a mess. Rahm Emanuel brings a great capacity for leadership to the table. This leadership will be no blanket at the beach for Mayor Emanuel or the people of Chicago.

The City has sold off its assets

The City has become a thug comfort Zone

The City has lousy public schools

The City has middling adequate public transportation

The City has a pension nightmare

The City has infrastructure nightmares coming down the pike - a simple lane closure on Lake Shore Drive becomes a WWII refugee film

The City has Bread and Circus and no clear path to economic recovery

There are thousands of public employees in the City of Chicago who bring a solid work ethic, original thought, serious dedication to public service and great capacity for innovation if they are lead by a Mayor who can say no to usual crowd of trough drainers.

There are Ward leaders who understand public service and effective service to constituents. Embrace these rivals. Dismiss the bright boys who believe that winning a campaign is same governing.

Restore real police to Chicago's streets - they may not be PC or seem like a good fit for mouthing platitudes to WTTW, but the bad guys wet their britches in their presence.

Put Race on the backburner and productivity on the front burner. Racial harmony begins when service is equal for all neighborhoods. Embrace the most qualified by dint of past service and not some hack's recommendation.

Ditch symbolism for substance. Go back to Chicken and Waffles and actually have lunch and have the waitresses and bus boys sit with you for a few minutes over coffee and tea - then pick up the check. Drop into a few schools unannounced - Simeon, Fenger, Calumet and then wander over to Leo, Mount Carmel and Maria. Go along with Water Department Crew during the next freeze of twenty below and stand with the guys when a burst pipeline is fixed -quickly and effectively. Take the RedLine with an undercover cop three seats behind you. Pop into Gresham ( 6th) and Englewood (7th) some Friday night between 6 PM-4 AM. Stop into the Fire House at 81st and Ashland and do a ride along on few ambulances in Englewood. Drop into a one of few remaining neighborhood taverns and buy a round and listen. Life does not begin and end at Anne Sathers.

Mayor Emanuel should wear Terry Peterson like a pair of tighty whities, nod agreeably to the so-called black leadership. Listen and learn from Terry Peterson.

Go to synagogue ( click my post title) and stay tight with a spiritual adviser; you're gonna need one. Most importantly, stay close to your bride and kids. This is their City and your responsibilty.

*"Government by one man and a parliament is fundamental," Olicer Cromwell- The City Council and the Wards can and will be 'examined.' Ward boundaries will change. Expect this Rump Parialment to be transformed into the Barebones Pariliament -ASAP.

If Daley Sent Terry Peterson, That Just Might Be Daley's Endorsement of Rahm

Sneed hears rumbles CTA board Chairman Terry Peterson, who was Mayor Daley's campaign manager four years ago -- and was considered a possible mayoral contender -- has reportedly signed on to manage Rahm Emanuel's mayoral bid.
Terry Peterson is Mayor Daley's John Mackey -

January 17, 1971, Mackey was a principal in one the most famous plays in NFL championship history, catching a pass from quarterback Johnny Unitas after the ball first bounced off the hands of receiver Eddie Hinton and then grazed the fingertips of Cowboys All-Pro defensive back Mel Renfro. The ball caromed further downfield into the waiting arms of Mackey, who ran untouched for a (then) Super Bowl-record 75-yard touchdown reception. Baltimore won the game, 16-13, on Jim O'Brien's 32-yard field goal with five seconds left.
John Mackey could catch anything Johnny Unitas threw at or near him- he took care of the stuff that no one else could handle and that is Chicago's Terry Peterson.

If them Sneed rumbles tumble, hold the phone!

Terry Peterson has carried out every task that Mayor Daley sent his way.

1. When Alderman Streeter went away to Club Fed, Mayor Daley reached out to a young and energetic Planning and Development staffer and Terry Peterson stepped in as Alderman of the 17th Ward. Mr. Peterson is smart and a very good man.

2. Daley then tasked the effective and successful young Alderman with redevloping and dismantling the Cabrini-Green Housing Projects as Assistant Commissioner for Planning and Development in charge of "redevelopment initiatives surrounding the Cabrini-Green and Henry Horner public housing developments. Mr. Peterson embraced the Mayor’s vision of holistic community development built with public– private partnerships and anchored by major investments in parks, schools, libraries, police stations, and shopping centers."

In 2000, Peterson was named CEO of the Chicago Housing Authority, "responsible for the management of the Authority’s ten-year $1.5 billion Plan for Transformation. The Plan’s commitment is to rehabilitate or construct 25,000 units of public housing in communities that are safer, physically sound, and provide economic opportunities for residents."

3. Terry Peterson served on the National Advisory Board of Fannie Mae, one of the nation’s premiere affordable housing and community development corporations. Additionally, Mr. Peterson serves on the Board of Directors of The Council of Large Public Housing Authorities (CLPHA), an organization that researches and advocates for housing policy that ensures the preservation and improvement of public housing programs."

4. Terry Peterson was named to the CTA Doard of Directors

5. Terry Peterson ran each of Mayor Daley's recent Mayoral Campigns.

In short, Terry Peterson is the John Mackey of the Daley Administration and the question arises -Did Daley Call in John Mackey?

If Daley asked Terry Peterson to run Rahm Emanuel's campaign, that, boys and girls, in my opinion, is Mayor Richard M. Daley's endorsement.

Rahm would be Daley's guy.

Terry Peterson is John Mackey

Jonathan Alter AGAIN Proves He Knows Knothing About Chicago Politics

Jonathan Alter of Newsweek, MSNBC and The Barack Obama Cheerleading Squad, like most Progressives, understands zip, ziltch, nada about politics. I wet my strides reading his idiotic piece on Daley's Sunset. I also, received e-mails from folks in the know who also had mositened their pantaloons. A Smart Chicago Lawyer who also read Alter's nonsense noted -

What a pompous moron!

Alter's mom served on the Sanitary District Board -- three quarters of the population of Cook County did not even know her name.

Emanuel is not a native Chicagoan. He lived on the North Shore in New Trier Township. He had to move to Chicago when he wanted to run for Congress because he did not have the stones to challenge (drum roll) Mark Kirk. After being foisted upon the 5th District, succeeding his former friend Rod Blagojevich, most of his precinct organization from the City Water Department were sent to prison for campaigning on the government's dime.

Next to MSNBC Masterclown Chris Matthews, of course the nebbish Alter seems like Jake Arvey; however, the Lakeview Democrat, like most Hyde Parkers or Lakeshore Progressives would not know how to pull two voters together with two teams of oxen guided by two drovers with a hangover.

Jonathan Knows KNOW-thing. Cliffs Notes are the Progressives library.

Get this Drip's insight into the Daley Fallout ! This clown probably thinks that Bobaks is a pizza.

With Daley’s decision to retire at the end of his term, the path is cleared for Emanuel to resign as chief of staff after the midterms and move his family back to Chicago. It’s not 100 percent certain that he’ll do so, but the odds favor it. Whether he wins or not is a different question. As a native Chicagoan with roots in local politics (my mother was a politician there in the 1970s and ‘80s), I’m excited to watch this one unfold.

The handicapping is already underway, with Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. currently favored by some analysts, mostly because there doesn’t seem to be another prominent African-American candidate to split the large black vote in Chicago. ( who, Bubbie? Jimmy the Two-Headed Boy? Jonny Boy - Jesse Junior is going through the bLago Buzz-saw still playing at the FED. Wake Up, Son!)

But there are a bunch of other candidates who might make a race more complicated. Jim Houlihan, the Cook County Assessor, and Tom Dart, the Cook County Sheriff, could get in. I’ve known Houlihan for nearly 40 years and he is smart, charming and (important to note, especially in Chicago) totally honest. David Hoffman, a corruption-fighting former inspector general who ran a spirited if unsuccessful campaign for Senate this year, is another possibility. It’s also possible that several local politicians who have said they aren’t interested will change their minds. ( Only Dart has a Base of Support, Junior.)

But Emanuel would be formidable too. He was elected to the House in 2002 with no prior experience in elective office. He had Daley’s support but it was still a bruising campaign that tested Rahm’s ability to translate his experience as a hard-charging White House aide into street-level campaigning. Chicago’s ethnic stew no longer votes exclusively along tribal lines, so his being Jewish isn’t the handicap some critics suggest.
( emphases my own)

There! Now, you have done it Jonathan, I wet my britches! Please . . .there it goes again! Why Lord did you make laughter so kidney challenging?

Oh, Hell No, Son! Rahm-a Lama- Dang- Dong shouts in phones. His 2002 Congressional Bid was Daley asking Skinny Sheahan to help Rahm. Jonathan Alter would not know Skinny Sheahan if Skinny was standing on his chest. The Polish Bushas would make mince-meat of Rahm; let alone a Hall full of Teamsters and Operating Engineers.

Stick to the Sierra Club, Sweetheart.

Here is how things will shake out by February - Terry Peterson will emerge as the Candidate and eventual Mayor.

1. Terry Peterson

2. Tom Dart

3. Doc Walls ( in it because it is an election)

That Jonathan is the final field.

SEIU Lobbyists Stuff The Lobby of Illinois Capitol

I was in Springfield on school business and took a stroll over to the State Capitol. The joint was jumping!!!

I ran into Terry Peterson, my old Alderman and the guy who managed Mayor Daley's last landslide and my State Representative Kevin Joyce both grinding the stone in the People's Interest! These two gents are what public service should be all about!

Stuffing the halls were the heavyweights of the SEIU Purple Gang!

I saw Progress Illinois poster boy Keith Kelleher, looking svelt in SEIU ppppp-purple! But the rest of SEIU crowd? Man! Eat a salad at Augie's Front Burner folks!

I gotta ask. Who has the concession for the Triple X and Up -Purple T-Shirts?

That Dude could buy a Kennedy.

Interesting to note that SEIU leadership tends to be Imperially thin almost emaciated and dues paying folks seem to fill out the Purple T's hugely. Keith and the Council must spring for some heavy lunch-boxes on Lobby Day.
