Charter Schools Offer Hope - Teachers Union the Anchor of Failure

I have three kids in a charter school and two in union CPS schools. The quality difference between the teachers and the kids performance is stark.

Charter Schools offer a stark contract to Chicago Public Schools - Catholic Schools Offer much more than that - real documented success. Charters are pretty good alternatives to wasteful and incompetant public schools dominated by Teachers unions.

Teachers unions seem to do little more than haven the useless, and protect the lazy.

Public School Teachers want to be considered Professionals like accountants, doctors and lawyers, but demand to be insulated from accountability. I worked only in Catholic Schools and worked only with professionals - the weak and the incompetant went off to find new lines of work - some in the Public Schools.

Chicago Catholic School Superintendent Mary Paul McCaughey noted in talk to the Fifty of Friday Club last week that graduates of Catholic Schools go on to college - 97% go on to college.

CPS is saddled with a less than 37% high school graduation rate for young men.

CPS is staffed with 100% Chicago Teachers Union membership - Marilyn Stewart CPS President spent last year locking a rival out of his offices at CTU. ( see the Ted Dallas Document above)

Yet Marilyn Stewart offered this about Charter Teachers joining CTU:

CTU President Marilyn Stewart and Illinois Federation of Teachers President Ed Geppert, Jr. had this to say in a joint statement: “We are very supportive of this strong group of teachers and staff at the Chicago International Charter Schools’ as they form a union. These charter school teachers and staff are acting today to improve their schools’ operations and environment for their student’s performance. We feel as strongly as they do that the views of teachers and staff are critical to school success and that school administrators must formally recognize the teachers and staff contributions. Their dedication will help their schools become trailblazers of innovation and collaboration within community.”

During the Palm Sunday homily at Sacred Heart Church, Father McKenna brought up the heroic Clemens August Cardinal Graf Von Galen - some handle that.

Von Galen was beatified in 2005 by the Church and paid a mere nodding attention to that fact.

However, at the tiny French Mission Church in Washington Heights on the south side, Father McKenna sparked my interest.

Father McKenna mentioned the beating that Francis Cardinal George had been taking in media and from Chicago pols on the wrong side of the Notre Dame suck up to Abortion.

Father McKenna paralleled the heroic voice of Cardinal George to that of the forgotten German Cardinal Von Galen who defied Hitler and his Cult of Death.

Like Abortion, a political will that murders the elderly, the helpless and the undesirable is a cult of Death. Hitler hated smoking and loved Abortion and Euthanasia was aided and abetted by the cowed and the cowardly-Hitler advanced science and research over morality.

The Bishop of Muenster railed against this Cult of Death. Like the Archbishop of Chicago, Von Galen, a German aristocrat ( hence the Graf Von) was vilified by likes of Alfred Rosenberg, Joey Goebbels and Heinrich Himmler, as well as the Agent of Change - Hitler. Cardinal George took a sucker slap from Bill Daley, the Mayor's Brother, probably because the Daley's want President Obama to lean on the Olympic Committees , so Pat Ryan can get some Insurance Business. Abortion can be a huge help to the Olympics! Yes! We Can!

Back in Hitler's Germany, where the Nazi's put on just a Swell Olympics, the mentally handicapped, the elderly, the insane, the deformed and the unwanted murdered as Research Tools to make health issues more viable. Cardinal Von Galen loudly attacked the Cult of Death and Racism - Yep, the Catholic Archbishop of Muenster loudly attacked the persecution of German Jews as well.

For his efforts, Hitler had Von Galen -placed under house arrest - he couldn't and didn't want to make the bishop a martyr. Can't have that - Nein!

Von Galen died shortly after the War and Progressive Revisionist history swept his heroic efforts under the carpet.

Like Cardinal George, Blessed Cardinal Von Galen is a heroic voice for the weakest and most vulnerable.

At Little Flower Grammar School near 79th & Wood Street - it was actually on 8000 S. Honore, I believe that it occurred just after Bold Teddy got back from bashing Spain in Cuba, I remember asking one of the Sisters of Mercy, Sister Doralese ( who genuinely and cordially hated my guts), about the meaning of the Three Letters that seemed to adorn every altar, pillar, and church facade in the Church Universal.

I recalled one of my painful lessons learned from the Sisters of Mercy, because of the rough week Francis Cardinal George has had again at this Holiest of Times to Catholics and most Christians - Easter.

Last year, Cardinal George and the parishioners of Holy Name Cathedral parish were splattered with blood from six nitwits who wanted to domestic terrorists.

This year Holy Name Cathedral caught fire and Cardinal George found himself again attacked by media morons for defending the faith in the flap over Notre Dame ( Neutered Dome -rather) affirmation of President Obama as Abortionist in Chief by conferring an Honorary Degree upon the most strident Abortion President in American History. Barack Obama has set himself up as the Abraham Lincoln of Abortion.

That's nice - but no Catholic school should honor that political decision.

Cardinal George lit into that decision and Religion Swami goofball at the Chicago Tribune's Manya Brachear is soiling her Speedo's in response:

With all due respect, Cardinal, in the age of YouTube, every conference is a press conference.

The cardinal's diplomatic words on Friday might have guided the conversation earlier. In clarifying his remarks, he expressed deep respect for Obama and the office of the President. He also acknowledged that he and Obama agree on many issues.

“On other things, particularly on this issue, he has his own principles that are well thought out,” the cardinal said

In fact, the cardinal implied, Obama’s plan to speak is not really the central issue that should be discussed.

“In Catholic community, whatever anyone does affects anybody else,” he said. “We can think of scandals. We can think of problems. Therefore, no institution that calls itself Catholic can be unilateral.”

“So the decision in a sense corroborates our theology,” he continued. “What one of us does in Catholicism affects us all and I think that’s the question that has to be discussed.”

The Cardinal spoke very clearly - Notre Dame is wrong in giving President Obama an Honorary Degree, because he is the most strident Abortion President in history.

Late on Friday, we posted some video of GOP Rep. John Shimkus' ridiculous remarks at a Capitol Hill climate change hearing last week. In the days since, the two clips have been burning up the internet. They provoked great responses from Think Progress, Matt Yglesias, and The Washington Monthly. But the best rebuttal has to come from University of Minnesota-Morris biologist PZ Myers (pictured right) on the blog Pharyngula. Here he is on Shimkus' contention that capping CO2 emissions could have the unintended consequence of "taking away plant food" and "doing just the opposite of what the people who want to save the world are saying":

They were part of an orchestrated effort to smear Illinois Representative John Shimkus (R.IL 19th District - Central Illinois - Coal Country) - hell, until the soul-patch commandos got all over John Shimkus, I never gave the poor man a second thought.

Now, I really, really admire the guy. He was attacked for debunking the Cap and Trade Doctrine* which I believe to be a foolish and even stupid policy especially in the current economy - it will destroy the very weak Illinois Coal Industry.

In order to 'GET' Shimkus the beauties at Progress Illinois trotted out a biology teacher from Minnesota who hates all religion and got to be a loud mouth critic of GW Bush over Intelligent Design and etc. PZ Meyers is a nerdy little twerp who asked his students to sneak out a consecrated communion wafer.

Catholics ( Full disclosure I is one) believe God is present in the Consecrated Wafer as PZ calls it - Transubstantiation -His ( Christ's) body and blood are truly contained in the sacrament of the altar under the forms of bread and wine, the bread and wine having been transubstantiated, by God's power, into his body and blood.

PZ Meyers wanted a student to desecrate the Eucharist. He did not order his students to desecrate the Koran, like a heroic and very dead Danish film-maker happened to do, because in PC America PZ Meyers can desecrate the Eucharist of Catholics. Catholics are targeted by the hip - Bill Maher, HBO, MSNBC and the failing Chicago newspapers.

Catholics are anti-abortion, and against Gay Marriage and against Promiscuity in general. Hollywood needs all of the above. Big money.

The Pope and the Bishops can be mocked for speaking out on Catholic Doctrine. So can critics of Cap and Trade.
