And no power of fire could give them light, neither could the bright flames of the stars enlighten that horrible night. The Book of Wisdom XVII, 5. "Until FOX 32 started asking questions, he was one of the top officials in the office of Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez. He made $153-thousand a year as chief of the office's civil division." Dane Placko Fox32 My rule of thumb, when considering a news item from Dane Placko of Chicago FOX 32, is a Progressive Democrat wants someone dead - metaphorically, socially, politically, economically, but maybe not physically . . .maybe not.
Dane Placko, I have no doubt, got a call from someone in City, or County government and went to work on a man who has been working in the Cook County States Attorney's Office for sometime and has not yet learned that group thought is a 24 hour, 365 days per year unwritten but certainly fully funded mandate. The man, in the cross hairs of Dan Placko's investigation is named Dan Gallagher. Mr. Gallagher made a comment on Facebook that was deemed 'inappropriate' because First Lady Obama seemed a bit porcine in the photo - Under a Facebook post about the First Lady meeting Pope Francis, a comment by Daniel F. Gallagher says: "I think Moosechelle was hiding a secret service agent in the seat of her dress." Someone hissed the comment to Dane Placko, a man given to hack journalism only upon people who can be fired in government, but never on anyone who makes career of lousing up Chicago, Cook County, or the State of Illinois. FOX 32 has Placko. ABC7 has Chuck Goudie. Illinois BGA has Andy Shaw ( formerly of ABC 7) protecting the Progressive Democrat Eunuchs ( Proco Joe/Claypool) and Pharaohs (Daley/Rahm/Preckwinkle) who have destroyed our schools, our neighborhoods and our collective safety.
It seems Mr. Gallagher, obviously a white privileged individual and incapable of being a Group Think victim, holds
Al Sharpton
Pastor Pfleger
Hillary Clinton
in scant regard. Now, had he limited himself to GW Bush, Tea Party People, the Koch Brothers, or the late Cardinal George for criticism, Mr. Gallagher would be receiving support from an obviously gutless Anita Alvarez and a future pay stub.
As it is, Dane Placko has his scalp.
This is Egypt, not Chicago. If you do not think what you are told to think ( Ain't Rahm Great? Obama Should be on Mount Rushmore, Bike Lanes Rock! & etc.) you should move to BumTryst, Indiana, Fella.
If work take a check from City, County and State payrolls and you venture a thought critical of a protected Eunuch, much less a Pharaoh, someone will dial up Dane Placko, Chuck Goudie, Andy Shaw, or one of the many purse puppy inkslingers in this sad burg and you will be forced to resign and live out your days in ignominious . . . .light. Everyone else is way happy in the dark.
Imagine devouring every last item at the All You Can Eat buffet at Chi Tung, skipping the tip to the waitresses because it is after all a buffet, and then walking out the door to find a lawyer who will sue that fine establishment into oblivion, because Chinese food disagrees with you.
That is pretty much the mind of Rahm Emmanuel with regard to middle class neighborhood dwellers, and he is not alone. Valerie Jarrett, President Obama, most newspaper columnists and nearly every editorial board member in Chicago ( save Kristen McQueary of Chicago Tribune), WTTW, WBEZ, WBBM, NBC, ABC, and CBS feel pretty much the same way.
In order to destroy the middle class, like every entree on a Chinese Buffet, every aspect of life important to it, as well as the monetary rewards curtailed via taxation, vocational disappearances and personal safety, must be vilified. The MC must come to realize that they are appalling and believe it. If you are for traditional marriage, you are a homophobic hater. If you support law enforcement, you are racist. If you are for lower taxes, you are racist and a classist. If you ask a young lady to mind her language in church, you patriarchal misogynist Bible thumper. If you want better schools, you are just plain stupid out of your mind nasty. If you want to raise your family with hope for a brighter tomorrow, you will vote, again, for Rahm Emanuel - 'Hey, he's not so bad.'
This is not new stuff This detestation of the middle class goes back to the 19th and early 20th century Chicago Progressivism, Did you know that the first Pulitzer prize winner was the son of a wealthy Chicago Robber Baron of 19th Century, Ernest Poole
Mr. Poole would belong to the Occupy Chicago, I Can't Breathe, Don't Shoot Me brand of Progressive spirit that helped launder SEIU's Trotskyite recent history, elect Pat Quinn & Rahm Emanuel and give us Red Light Cameras.
Progressives are well-heeled; Middle Class Breeders have two nickels to rub together. . .for the moment. Ernest Poole was a Progressive pioneer.
Two years out of Princeton, Ernest Poole covered the 1904 Chicago Stockyard Strike as a free-lance correspondent, lived in Packingtown, as the media called Canaryville then, among the striking meat-cutters, drovers and penmen who lived in Bridgeport and Canaryville. Ernest Poole reported all of his activities with the strikers, especially the Amalgamated Meat Cutters President Mike Donnelly, directly to the the approved Chicago social justice queens Dr. Cornelia De Bey and Jane Addams.
These two legendary shake-down artists were deep in the pockets the beef barons Philip Armour, Gustavus Swift, and Nelson Morris, to fund Hull House and other settlement operations, as well as put a lock on control of Chicago public schools and public health.
Ernest Poole, like so many earnest young people born to privilege, was a babbler, a transient dweller among the unwashed and the oppressed, visited poverty and remained among his kind of people. People with money and juice, drag, connections.
I can not find any primary examples of Poole's work concerning the 1904 Stockyard Strike, but only his own words written decades later in his puff piece Giants gone; men who made Chicago(1943), which I read again yesterday. Poole writes about the Giants of Chicago, Men like his Dad, Philip Armour, Gustavus Swift, Nelson Morris, Jane Addams and Dr. Cornelia De Bey with same cool-eyed perspective of the five year old girl's opinion of unicorns. The 1st winner of the Pulitzer is a testament to Progressive marrow.
What makes writers like Poole, Studs Terkel, Bill Ayers, President Obama and mouthpieces like Carol Marin, Bruce Dold and Neil Steinberg so enduring is their basic detestation and loathing for Middle Class lifestyle, manners & morals, avocations and thought.
The satisfied mind, the grand old flag, the happy home, the full belly and heaping board, the button-down Oxford cloth o fJC Penny clothing and the Savings and Loans of American Breeders ( Protestant, Catholic, Jew and Uncle Tom AME/Baptist) are the things that matter not to Progressive Zealots and people they shill into public office.
Clerisy - Intelligensia - German Klerisei clergy, from Medieval Latin clericia, from Late Latin clericus cleric
Joel Kotkin is Casandra - that is if Casandra of epic Greek and Roman poetry looked like a dock-worker. Joel Kotkin is a demographer ( studies the great American in his natural habitats: urban, rural and off-the -grid) more concerned with the living and breathing people of his study than the numbers that they represent.
I've been reading Joel Kotkin for years and every trend in population shift with underlying political and culture motor running them has been on the money. Kotkin warned of the rise of the public sector unions, the titanium hand-cuffs of the welfare state, the Marxist control of immigration debate and the K-Street control of government back when Clinton was chasing interns through the cubicles and closets of the West Wing and few so-called political mavericks listened to his dire predictions.
Joel Kotkin clearly explained the gentrification of rust belt America as a signal accomplishment of Progressive hegemony. The Smart Sizing of American cities is more about eliminating ethnic neighborhoods and opening up green-space for the elite than it is about meeting the challenges of a down-sized economy.
Somebody Else's Troubles is the meme of the New Progressive Millennium. The elites have their's - Up Yours, Dude.
The elites are the gated community of discourse and debate. In his latest article published in New Geography reintroduced me to a word that I had forgotten from the time I took Father Charles Rohan, SJ's course on the Revolutions of 1848 at Loyola University in 1973. That word is clerisy. Kotkin offered clerisy in a previous New Geography articles on the eve of Term II Obama -
Like empowered bureaucrats everywhere, the clerisy also sometimes reserves a nice “taste” for themselves, much as the old bishops and upper clergy indulged in luxury and even prohibited pleasures of the flesh. Just look at the lavish payouts accorded to Orszag and Treasury Secretary-designate Jacob Lew, who, after serving in the bureaucracy, make millions off the same Wall Street firms that have so benefited from administration policies.
So who loses in the new order? Certainly unfashionable companies – oil firms, agribusiness concerns, suburban homebuilders — face tougher times from regulators and the mainstream media . But the biggest losers likely will be the small business-oriented middle class. Not surprisingly Main Street, far more than Wall Street, harbors the gravest pessimism about the president’s second term.
These later-day-oligarchs 'wet their beaks' like Don Farnucci and do not countenance any nay-saying. Telling the mass of folks to keep their opinions to themselves, to 'suck it up and salute,' demands a great deal of shovel-ready engineering and Obama's handlers have done just that in less than eight years and they ain't nearly done!
Kotkin is on it.
An alliance of upper level bureaucrats and cultural elites, the Clerisy, for for all their concerns about inequality, have thrived, unlike most Americans, in recent years. They also enjoy strong relations with the power structure in Washington, Silicon Valley, Hollywood and Wall Street.
As the modern clerisy has seen its own power grow, even while the middle class shrinks, it has used its influence to enforce a prescribed set of acceptable ideas. On everything from gender and sexual preference to climate change, those who dissent from the official pieties risk punishment.
This power has been seen recently in a host of cancellations of commencement speakers. Just in the past few months Ayaan Hirsi Ali, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, International Monetary Fund managing director Christine Lagarde, and former UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert Birgeneau, have been prevented from speaking by campus virtue squads whose sensibilities they had offended.
The spate of recent cancellation reflect an increasingly overbearing academic culture that promotes speech codes on what is permissible to say and even seeks to provide “trigger warnings” to warn students about the presence of nominally troubling subject matter in readings and discussions so they can avoid the elements of reality they find offensive.
The very term Clerisy first appeared in 1830 in the work of Samuel Coleridge to described the bearers society’s highest ideals: the intellectuals, pastors, scientists charged with transmitting their privileged knowledge them to the less enlightened orders.
In Chicago, these bearers if society;s highyest ideals are retired terrorits like Billy Ayers and his odious Old Lady, Bernardine Dohrn, Hyde Park/Evanston Mafia Dons like Abner Mikva, the late Dawn Clark Netsch, and the Red Dorain Grey Dr. Quentin Young, The Money - SEIU, Personal PAC Illinois, and Fred Eychaner This is the top of the food chain.
The level two elites are the elected officials academics, lawyers and activists, like G. Flint Taylor, Jon Loevy, Locke Bowman Craig Futterman, Thundering Dick Simpson of UICC and Martin Oberman Metra Overlord, the editorial boards and iconic columnists of both Chicago Papers and elected officials who do their biddings.
Third level elites are the qui bono go-alongs - investors, appointees, political debutantes in waiting.
Joel Kotkin warned that the fix was going in years ago with Casandra-like accuracy. Remember, that erasing history and memory itself is essential to Progressive control - they will tell you what the 'right side of history, the climate, the fate of Israel, the minimum wage, the definition of marriage, the homicide rate, the fairness of everything and everything that "just can not wait, because we all have waited too long."
If you differ, you are
A denier
A hater
A Palin
A Flat-earther
A Racist
A Red-neck
An Idiot
A Catholic
A Jew
A Baptist
You will never be Bill Moyers, a member of CAIR, a Unitarian, or an NPR subscriber,
Kotkin predicts ( and I have yet to catch him in error) that Clerisy is here to stay.
Will the Clerisy rule after Obama?
The fact that Republicans continue to maintain considerable power in both Washington and the states suggests that the Clerisy’s power is not yet determinative. And indeed after President Obama leaves office, the Clerisy’s reach may be temporarily diminished, but its ability to set the social and political agenda will likely persist and even grow given their influence to shape perceptions, particularly among the young.
Toni Preckwinkle is bone stupid, but that never seems to impede the path of an Illinois Progressive - Dick Durbin, Pat Quinn, Jan Schakowski, Joe Moore, Mike Quigley, Deb Mell. Deb Shore. Proco Joe ad infinitum.
I must repeat this! Toni Preckwinkle is bone stupid. I must repeat this in much the same manner as Carol Marin lifts ideas from Laura Washington - weeks late - and Eric Zorn channels the Brothers Klonsky, the Granta versions of Billy Ayers.
Toni "The Cook County Crypt Keeper" and Zeus Preckwinkle sharing a hilarious moment.
Did I mention that Toni Preckwinkle is bone stupid? There, I've said again!
That Toni Preckwinkle! She's the Crypt Keeper and yet she managed to dump all of the corpses on Dr. Jones AND get the Sun Times Editorial Board to help.
Toni Preckwinkle is not evil; she is bone stupid and that always helps as a Progressive. . . anywhere and especially here in Cook County.
I remember Toni, from back in the days when she fell down an open manholes on the way from City Hall to the State of Illinois Building. Wasn't that a time?
I remember Toni when she dumped on Chicago Nobel Laureate Saul Bellow, after he was dead of course, as a racist.
I remember Toni Preckwinkle when she wore shoes from two very different pairs.
I remember Toni Preckwinkle . . .and I would love to forget that she is yet breathing my air.
Nevertheless, Toni Preckwinkle will always be with us, as long as there is a WTTW, Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun Times - Carol Marin lifting thoughts from Laura Washington and Eric Zorn channeling the thoughts of the Brothers Klonsky.
Todd Stroger was seriously challenged, but Toni Preckwinkle is stupid and you can't fix stupid. You an only become a Progressive public money grabber. Stupid people depend upon formulae and always stick closely to the script. They use teleprompters and memes, because an original thought would die of suffocation with the vapor-locked cavern between their ears.
Marijuana demands to be free! Dopers allied with academic and lawyers with Progressive crendentials years ago and made legalization of drugs an identity politics adjunct. Movie like Traffic appealed to the Smart Set -"Yeah, whom do drugs most harm, Hmmmm?" The War on Drugs is a Drag, because it thickens prison yards, shoots up the community and denies dweebs the freedom to choose to get smoked up and baked. Toni Preckwinkle is doing for dope what Joe Moore did for goose guts.
Today, the Cook County Board President let her inner Toni out at an event dubbed a leadership conference hosted by the most fatuous ninny to sit in the Governor's Chair until Pat Quinn -GOP Jim Edgar and the ears at U of I pricked up for the War on Drugs:
That’s when she said Reagan deserved “a special place in hell,” a comment that produced a discernible gasp among conferees, according to some in attendance.
She then, jokingly, said, “What, you didn’t like that?” the witnesses said.
Rose declined comment about her remarks or his exchange with Preckwinkle during what had been billed to attendees as an “off-the-record” discussion, though media representatives from the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times and WBBM-TV were not told about those ground rules.
Preckwinkle offered no excuses. She later told the Sun-Times, “It was a conference and wasn’t supposed to be a media event, but when you speak in front of reporters it is a media event.”
The woman who wore the jacket for the Crypt Keeper of Cook County, Dr. Jones called Toni evil and Toni Preckwinkle damned Ronald Reagan, long dead of course, to Hell.
Toni Preckwinkle is in no way evil.
Toni Preckwinkle is bone stupid. Bone stupid makes evil happen.
Jeremiah Wright is no crazier than fellow UCC member and Public Television Ninny Bill Moyers. They are cut from the very same context - here its is:
The Foundation of Western Civilization is the three-headed demon of Racism. Militarism and Capitalism.
Yesterday Jeremiah Wright made the Dr. Martin Luther King Address at Karen Lewis's MLK Birthday Breakfast. Wright went all Wright on Obama, who has been an inane drone ever since he tucked a clipboard tightly in his armpit as a comminity organizer, Woods Fund robot, book signer, Dem Back Bencher and Little Miss punching bag for Bobby Rush and Laura Washington. However. Daffy Wright invoke Dr. King, - Dr King said, "I Have a Dream,“I have a dream,” Obama says, “I have a drone.”
Na, NA,NAHHHH, Go' Dayem!
There's more -
Wright, Obama’s former pastor, called for King’s “revolution of values” and a rejection of the “three-headed demon” of “racism, militarism and capitalism” — the foundations of Western society, he said.
You know:
Hook Nosed Jews like Spinosa, Maimomedes, Einstein
Garlic Eatin Eyetalians like Dante Da Vinci and Columbus!
Kraut gulping Germans like Beethoven, Schiller, Goethe
Beer Guzzling BoHunks like Gregor Mendel
Frenchie Down-lows like Montaigne, Rabelais
All them Irish Niggahs!
Crackers like Lincoln, Twain,
More of them Jews!!!!
He's not crazy and CTU President Karen Lewis is not . . .corpulent.
Lewis defended Wright’s remarks, including the Obama references, saying the pastor’s words need to be seen in a broad context. “The issue is, how do we put those things in context so we can get to the point where we can have a world that’s healed and perfected, where we don’t have war?” Lewis said.
Have another stack of flap-jacks, Karen.
Dr. King would have loved that gathering of intellectual titans.
Karen, if my would, to use your phrase 'Pisses You Off,' look at the broad context . . . and do have some biscuis and gravy, a couple of Parkerhouse sausage patties, a dozen rashers of crispy bacon and some sticky buns.
Rahm Emanuel, Deb Mell, Ameya Pawar, Proco Joe Moreno hate families and will do anything in their power to make sure that Breeders (Unevolved Non-Homosexual Couples with Kids) exit the city limits.
Everyone loves dogs. President Obama not only loves pups; he ate one! My neighbors have dogs and walk them along the tracks on Rockwell Street, armed with ethanol based plastic bags from County Fair and sporting Zip-Lock plastic bags on the mitts to remove the leavings of Seamus, Preckwinkle, or Riddick the Rottweiler. One guy takes his dumber-than-Arne Duncan Irish Setter to Kennedy Park and hits nine iron shots for the happy goof to chase and retrieve. I could watch that for hours. I have.
In Rahm Emanuel's Chicago, Dogs are loved; crying babies are not.
The Chicago Park District was urged Tuesday to create more dog parks for the city’s 600,000 canines — and to lower the fundraising bar for dog owners — after aldermen authorized financing for Chicago’s 21st dog park.
The City Council’s Committee on Special Events, Cultural Affairs and Recreation agreed to contribute $195,081 in “open-space impact fees” collected from local developers to build the nearly half-acre park on a city-owned lot at 1358 W. Monroe.
The total budget for the park is $910,081, in part because the Park District demands that dog parks be built with artificial turf. That’s in addition to a requirement that local groups of dog owners maintain dog parks.
The evolved people ( local groups of dog owners maintain dog parks) demand grass, but dogs love to romp and roll and recycle their consumed Dog Yummies and Gluten Free Yuppie Dog meals. Yes, Stosh and Stella, there is Yuppie Dog for the 600,000 alleged canine partners in Family Chicago. Tucker, Jasmine and Ms. Vaginette are just not comfortable romping, rolling and recycling their comestibles on Chicago Park District Astro-Carpets.
The grassroots Puppy-Love Yuppies want natural for their puppies paws, but grass gets torn-up and nitrated when Tucker, Jasmine and Ms. Vaginette Go three leg (male), or dumpster dipped (female).
“The grass — we’ve discovered that it just gets destroyed,” she( CPD bureaucrat Doreen O'Donnell) said.
(Deb) Mell then turned to the maintenance requirement, asking “What happens if the people who signed up to maintain [a dog park] move away or get too busy?”
O’Donnell replied, “Either another group takes on that responsibility or the Park District may revert it back to another park use.”
Hush!
The City Council that apes Rahm's " The Children" Coverall Screed is hell-bent for leather chaps on turning Chicago's Parks envisioned by Danny Burnham as a people's urban haven into Mutt Manhattan. It took a great group of committed Moms (breeders and wives of cops, firefighters and City workers) from Mount Greenwood to form a private 501(c)3 in order to upgrade playround equipment for human pups.
Four-legged critters have evolved hacks watching their backs. Here is the attitude of the Progressive writ large
Ald. Ameya Pawar (47th) accused the Park District of setting the bar too high in a city that’s home to more than 600,000 dogs.
“Demographics of the city are changing. People are having children later. Some people are choosing not to have children. People have more dogs. Parks in our city should reflect that. [But] it doesn’t seem like dog-friendly areas are fundamentally part of the Park District’s mission, which puts the cost of raising funds and maintaining dog-friendly areas onto our constituents,” Pawar said.
Who's rubbing Ameya's belly?
"The demographics are changing! "SOME people are choosing not to have children - I smell a huge campaign contribution from Illinois Personal PAC!)
"Parks in our city should reflect that. " - Few people; fewer parks
"[But] it doesn’t seem like dog-friendly areas are fundamentally part of the Park District’s mission, which puts the cost of raising funds and maintaining dog-friendly areas onto our constituents,” - Well, Yeah! Dog's are owned by people, like fish, Pot-bellied pigs, cars, bikes, golf-clubs. Parks are for people, dumb ass; not their accessories.
Forrest Claypool and Rahm Emanuel have a real problem with people who actually know how to fix a rail that has come loose due to miscalculated gauges and neglected grading, folks who meet a shift in any kind of weather and start up a bus that has not been overhauled due to cut-backs and pick up angry, cold, wet impatient commuters who can not use cash anymore, nor the efficient and easy to use pass cards, or start up a rail car and maintain a safe level speed, in a sober and serious state of mind and body, while moving thousands of souls to and from stations, and members of the Chicago community from all neighborhoods who maintain a careful watch over routes with aid of complicated technical gadgets, monitors and headsets. They have a real problem with these people because they, like many Chicagoans, belong to a union of skilled trades persons with an elected leadership comprised of skilled trades persons.
CTA President Forrest Claypool has not held any tax-funded public job longer than five years by my simple empirical estimation and has managed to have his patrician shanks appointed to comfy chairs by Progressives, or dinosaur Democrats foolish enough to trust Forrest Claypool with or about anything.
If a CTA electrician's tool bag were dumped out on Forrest Claypool's desk, I would Ventra to say that this CTA President would be hard pressed to identify any of the items. "Well," one might say, " Forrest Claypool is far too important a media created Reform Minded Champion of the Working Poor to bother with such minutia. He is a macro-manager of all things micro."
True. However, one might just suggest that such a puffed-up pinch of an oligarch might fain respect for the people who can and do know the nomeclatures and applications of such items. He most certainly does not.
Forrest Claypool is a creature of the media and the Illinois Progressive oligarchy that controls city, county and State of Illinois government. Bob Kelly is a working stiff elected by the rank and file membership to lead Local 308 - most members are proud African American heads of households. I know the CTA workers who come in to pay tuition wearing their CTA uniforms, whose sons at Leo High School might follow them into the trade of their mothers and fathers. They are Local 308.
This week, after months of having his head handed to him by the forthright Mr. Kelly, Claypool enlisted Chicago's Progressive pan policy preacher and public person assassin Michael Pfleger to cast a union man in the role of racist power broker. Mr. Kelly, as I recall, from the March 2013 declaration of released convict employment with CTA, had no part in the initiative for which he is portrayed as some union Simon Legree, nor a place at the public podium with Pfleger, Clapool and Emanuel. Claypool promised ex-cons jobs with his CTA. The jobs require membership in Local 308. Did anyone mention this to Local 308 ? ? ?
Well, Preacher Pfleger does what he wants, where he wants, and to whom he wants. The facts matter not. This is an orchestrated campaign of character assassination ( the two Chicago paper editorial boards, Planned Parenthood, the Chicago Urban League, Midnight Basketball, The GDs/Vice Lords/ Four Corner Hustlers and UICC will all have something to say), because Pfleger, unlike Claypool, never draws an uncalculated breath.
Skilled trades set the standards for membership and not merely the payment of dues Can the applicant pass a test? Can the applicant provide a valid drivers license with and accurate address, can the applicant pass a drug test? Has the applicant ever been convicted of a felony? Progressives hate skilled trades unions and want all labor to come under the aegis of the State government. Skilled trades unions do not have massive memberships, because membership requires skills and accountability. Blind kids do make great high beam walkers with the Iron Workers. A guy who can ot tell 1/8" from 1/32 should not cut anything. Now, given the litany of crimes perpetrated aboard CTA vehicles by non-members of Local 308 as passengers, does it make any sense to have criminals emeriti add to the mix?
Progressives believe so and demand that everyone of the unevolved people* who work for a living also believe so.
Pfleger, Claypool, Rahm Emanuel and their media creatures will heap scorn and lies about Bob Kelly for a while. How that will end? I do not know. . .I can guess.
Know this - this is about a public character assasination of working man, because Forrest Claypool is a trainwreck for CTA, but the Progressive coalitions have too much invested in Forrest Claypool to admit that. No Republican has ever threatened organized labor as much as the Progressive.
More importantly, this is opening act for a tragedy. Once again, Progressive Grifters will seek to destroy Labor autonomy and stewardship of apprentice programs in Illinois. If the skilled trades unions of Chicago do not support Local 308 and Bob Kelly in this battle, you can expect Illinois labor to lose the war.
* But the Progressive coalition eventually became a victim of its own success. The economic difficulties of the Depression and the costs of World War Two were followed by the relative comfort and security of the late forties and the 1950s. Political pressures began to shift, and the Progressive concern moved away from wealth and toward other indicia of hardship, such as race, extreme political, social or religious views, indigent criminal defendants, alienage, and eventually gender, affectional preference and disabilities. Although Brown v. Board of Education and the Civil Rights movement were essential steps to fairness, they came at a very high price: the new Progressive concerns tended to divide rather than unite the coalition. Since the 1960s welfare liberals have increasingly played the game of recognizing new groups as disadvantaged, while risking the allegiance of others. At its best, the Democratic coalition has been barely held together by its fear of the political alternative. At its worse, it has been a set of bickering groups struggling for recognition as disadvantaged so that its members can also become the beneficiaries of government largesse. Meanwhile, government entitlement programs such as social security and Medicare began to move up the social scale until their principal beneficiaries became, not the poor and unemployed, but the employed and relatively affluent middle class.
The kind of "boutique" liberalism that has characterized the 1970s and particularly the 1980s has found political unity almost impossible to maintain. Each new group brought into the coalition is marginally less attractive to those already in than the previous group had been. For example, bringing in abortion rights and gays came at a heavy price in terms of loss of support from the Catholic and evangelical working classes - indeed, the political losses were almost certainly greater than the gains.
The result has been disjointed, fragmented governmental policy that has had an extraordinarily difficult time presenting a coherent ideology. Against this background, the classical vision of the market looks pretty good, particularly to those who see themselves as the financial contributors rather than the beneficiaries of this unfocused Progressive largesse.
Today, the legacy of Progressive legal thought is important but no less controversial than it was a half century ago. For more than thirty years Progressivism's critics have railed on its distrust of markets and the naivete of its faith in government. Ronald R. Coase's famous article on "The Problem of Social Cost," published in 1960, was thought to describe a common law system that inevitably produced efficient results. But the last ten years has seen substantial scholarship challenging the robustness of the Coase Theorem and limiting its domain. As a result, our once-firm belief in "deregulation" is gradually giving way to a belief that faith in unregulated markets can be carried too far, and that there are numerous areas where carefully designed government intervention can make things better. The concern for equal treatment to people of every race has perhaps suffered from a period of neglect, but concerns for equal treatment for others continues to carry political momentum. Legal Progressivism continues to produce its greatest successes, when it focuses on bread and butter issues related to wages, employment and economic equality and security. In the final analysis, it seems, escaping the legacy of Progressive legal thought is much more easily said than done.
Listen to the hand! Let's get Real! The Truth. Moue Power!
I voted for Nixon. It was the the first vote that I cast as a citizen. I was a sophomore at Loyola University which meant that, like my schoolmates, I took the L from 63rd & Ashland ( Englewood & Howard) and got off at Chicago and walked to Lewis Towers Campus on Rush Street. Loyola was rigorous. The professors were dead-on serious and exacting. Everyone had a job outside of taking classes and many had two or three. If you were late for a class you often found yourself locked out of the room.
I helped out with the 18th Ward Regular Democratic Organization. 1972 was a very weird election. In the Illinois Presidential Primary votes were cast for individual delegates to the convention. They were not tagged as generic McGovern, Humphrey, Kennedy, or Ribicoff delegates.
A particularly oily gent by the name of Ald. Bill Singer, who won his Progressive spurs with Abner Mikva's imprimatur and would later rat-out Dr. Scholl Land Deal partners and avoid a Federal Time-out, was feeling his youthful oats and leagued up with the to-be Dean of American Shakedown Artistry, Rev. Jesse Jackson in voiding all of Illinois's duly elected delegates to the convention.and grabbing political power from the clutches of people who actually knew what they were doing.
I was young and disgusted with National Democratic Party. If George McGovern needed to steal the convention in order to get elected, why would I vote for someone with such low self-esteem? I held my nose and down my lunch and voted for Tricky Dick Nixon. Shortly, I began reading excerpts from the Washington Post's reports about Cuban burglars, black bags of dough, a crash near Midway*, CREEP, and GOP rat-sex-ting.
Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, Woodstein, took Nixon to the woodshed. Shoe-leather reporting and pains-taking attention to facts and numbers unmasked a self-serving phony. Journalism became a sacred institution.
Oddly enough, the same institution that feted Woodstein would become the mask-manufacturers of self-serving phonies from the Chicago Wards all the way to the White House.
The 1972 Democratic Convention and its bloody Irish-twin Roe v. Wade (1973) was the nativity of the national and local idiocies identified as Progressive/Liberal Democrat policy. The term Liberal Democrat has faded into history and Democrat is too often associated with the power mad folly that is American Progressive thought. If it is Progressive it either encourages State-sponsored murder (abortion/euthanasia) or manages to screw up everything from budgets to traffic.
I am a Democrat; same as I was in 1972. 98% of the votes that I have cast have been for Democrats. I can not vote for a Progressive; especially after having voted for Pat Quinn and Toni Preckwinkle, as part of doing a solid for some pals.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel is what being a Progressive is all about. He'd burn a library full of pre-schoolers to teach them a lesson about reading the fire code. Most Progressives in public office and appointed pay-rollers are "ain't she/he greaters" wealthy dopes with nothing much else to do - you find them running the CTA, serving as Lieutenants Governor, manning the seats on paid commissions, getting facetime on MSNBC while screwing up things in Congress, or at the Department of Education, or building a Sequester. The President and the Vice President-practiced Moue Men
Half of Woodstein, 50% of the guys who brought down Nixon, Bob Woodward has gotten himself in the jackpot with the Obama White House for getting his facts straight. President Obama talks out of whatever side of the mouth Val Jarrett tells him to use and it seems to me does not fully understand what he puts out from that side of his oral cavity. Rahm Emanuel became Mayor of Chicago, because he could no longer even suggest a moue from the President. Bill Daley found that out too. What's the point of being a progressive when you are not allowed to at least torch a village or two.Progressive is all about power.
Hence Mayor Rahm. Last night, true to the Progressive Code of Etiquette introduced Mr. Woodward at a Holocaust Museum event at the Hyatt with an attempted Hyde Park Pimp Slap. The Mayor made reference to the e-mails from Gene Sperling at the White House, warning Woodward to beware his 'Obama moved the goal-post' on Congress remarks.
I am a reactionary. I am never pre-emptively snotty. However, once the crack against me or mine is made for no other purpose than to denigrate, I am more than happy to oblige. e.g. A Progressive is the loudmouth who tries to embarrass someone -
Mr. Sumner Quickbritches of the IVI -"Hey, everybody here comes the Biggest Fat-assed Catholic, Racist Homophobic, Wrong Side of History, Breeder Loser in the world!"
Me, All of the Above- " Runner up."
Sumner Quickbritches of the IVI - " Hateful! Hateful, on so many levels . . .and sad."
Progressives never learn the sobering and wholesome effects of a slap in the puss, when an off-hand remark, fib, gross-exaggeration, lie or calumny gets blown forth. Most other folks learned the lesson early often that it does not cost you nickel one to be a good guy.
In response, Robert Woodward offered this salient truth - that Rahm was a player and his play helped cause the division in our nation. Here is nugget of Woodward's wisdom - “There is so little focus on what’s real, what’s true.”
From the 1972 Democratic Convention, to the Watergate burglaries, to Roe V. Wade, through Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Surf-Dog Millionaire John Kerry, Hillary's Benghazi, and Obama's moues, America lost much of its greatness to play the Progressive.
What's real - America is broke and it is being bullied by a fat kid in Korea and a hillbilly with a Koran in Iran; what's true is we can do so much better, but we will not for at least three more years.
* Down the block from my cousin Larry Hickey's home in Queen of the Universe parish - watch the neighbors help the firemen:
It was at 2:29 PM on Friday, December 8, 1972, during the height of the Watergate scandal that United Airlines flight 553 crashed just outside of Chicago during a landing approach to Midway Airport. Initial reports indicated that the plane had some sort of engine trouble when it descended from the clouds. But the odd thing about this crash is what happened after the plane went down. Witnesses living in the working-class neighborhood in which the plane crashed said that moments after impact, a battalion of plainclothes operatives in unmarked cars parked on side streets pounced on the crash-site [High Treason 2 (1992, Carroll and Graf); Harrison Livingston; p426] . These so-called 'FBI types' took control of the scene and immediately began sifting through the wreckage looking for something. At least one survivor recognized a "rescue worker"--clad in overalls sifting through wreckage--as an operative of the CIA [op. cit.; p428]
Nixon whitehouse asserts control of Investigation
One day after the crash, the Whitehouse head of Nixon's "plumber's" outfit--Egil Krogh, Jr.-- was made undersecretary of transportation, a position that put him in a direct position to oversee the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Agency which are both authorized by law to investigate airline crashes. Krogh would later be convicted of complicity in the break-in of Daniel Ellsberg's Psychiatrist's office along with Hunt, Liddy and a small cast of CIA-trained and retained Cuban black-bag specialists.
About a month after Krogh's new assignment, Nixon's appointments secretary, Dwight Chapin, was made an executive in the Chicago office of United Airlines [op. cit.; p429], where he threatened the media to steer clear of speculation about sabotage in the crash. On December 19th--eleven days after the crash--Nixon appointed ex-CIA officer, Alexander Butterfield, as head of the FAA. Students of Watergate will remember Butterfield as the Whitehouse official who supervised Nixon's secret taping system and who exposed the existence of the infamous tapes that ultimately would force Nixon to resign.
Ostensibly traveling with Mrs. Hunt on flight 553 was CBS news corespondent Michelle Clark who, rumor had it, had learned from her sources that the Hunts were about to spill the proverbial beans regarding the Nixon whitehouse and its involvement in the Watergate burglary; Clark also died in the crash.
A large sum of money (between $10,000 and $100,000) was found amid the wreckage in the possession of Mrs. Hunt. It was during this time that Dorothy Hunt was traveling around the country paying off operatives and witnesses in the Watergate operation with money her husband had extorted from Nixon via his counsel, John Dean. Hunt had threatened Nixon and Dean with exposing the nature of all the sordid deeds he had done.
Could it be that the fuel for Hunt's blackmail of the president had little to do with the so-called "third-rate burglary" of the Democratic headquarters? Could it have had more to do with the fate of John F. Kennedy and of Nixon's awareness of who was really behind the planning and deployment of his demise? In the Watergate tapes, Nixon displays a malignant paranoia to his chief-of-staff, H. R. Haldeman, concerning E. Howard Hunt and the Bay of Pigs operation. He decides to use this paranoia to force the CIA to help cover up the Watergate affair:
"...just say (unintelligible) very bad to have this fellow Hunt, ah, he knows too damned much, if he was involved -- you happen to know that? If it gets out that this is all involved, the Cuba thing, it would be a fiasco. It would make the CIA look bad, it's going to make Hunt look bad, and it is likely to blow the whole Bay of Pigs thing which we think would be very unfortunate - both for the CIA and for the country..."
In his memoir, The Ends of Power (1978), Haldeman claims that all the references in the tapes to "The Bay of Pigs thing", were coded references by Nixon:
In those Nixon references to the Bay of Pigs [in the White House tapes] he [Nixon] was actually referring to the Kennedy assassination...After Kennedy was killed, the CIA launched a fantastic cover-up...The CIA literally erased any connection between Kennedy's assassination and the CIA...in fact, Counter Intelligence Chief James Angleton of the CIA called Bill Sullivan of the FBI (Number Three man under J. Edgar Hoover, who later died of a gunshot would) and rehearsed the questions and answers they would give to the Warren Commission investigators."
In The Haldeman Diaries (1994), editor Stephen Ambrose wrote that Haldeman, in the latter years of his life, attributed the above revelations to his ghost writer, Joseph Di Mona; by 1990, Haldeman was repudiating the entire book. One must remember that from the time Nixon fired Haldeman (1973) until December 1978, the two men were not on speaking terms; it was during this time--coincident with his prison term--that Haldeman released his book.
In 2004,the Editorial Board and its Care Kid Columnists of the Chicago Tribunedid more* to give Barack Obama Senator Peter Fitzgerald's seat than an army of 11th, 14th, 17th, 18th, 19th & 47th Ward City workers could do with millions of walking around dollars, Michael Shakman and all of his works consigned to the back of UPS 40' trailer bound for Nome and limitless air time on WTTW.
2004. . . Dave Axelrod, one-time kid reporter for the Chicago Tribune, went full smear with help of Northwestern disc Jockey-editor Bruce Dold had four years of practice in the editorial driver's seat. Sealed divorce records of public people became the thermonuclear detterant to one's decision to remain in a race. Millionaire, Army vet, school teacher, philanthropist and venture capitalist ( yes, he built that life, Barry) was the road-block to Barack Obama. Tammy Duckworth Bruce Dold's editorial page and his rag-rangers went all over Blair Hull like a cheap suit, until he opened his own divorce records.
Danny Hynes ran second to Barack in the Democratic Primary because he did so with the very same enthusiasm and grit that I ran yesterday's Chicago Marathon.
Now, for the Republican Primary. Jack Ryan, a school teacher, venture capitalist, and Chick Magnet, needed to be eliminated Bruce Dold, sent the Trib lawyers to California to have a compliant judge forcibly 'unseal' the divorce file - because the public needed to know the private life of a would be public man.
The Chicago Tribune made Barack Obama and aside from scrutiny by John Kass and Dennis Byrne and a very few others, this organ played Obama's waltz into the White House.
Today, its shameless folly is played out in its endoresemnt of Tammy Duckworth, the moveable feast for Dem-Progressives. who moves more than an old man's bowels.
Once an election boundary pre-drawn, Dawn Clark Netsch and Abner Mikva begin scouting real estate for Tammy Duckworth's entry into the lists.
Tammy Duckworth gave her blood and limbs in the service of America and for that deserves the honor and respect of all.
Since, her heroic recovery Tammy Duckworth has been a government appointee and frequent candidate. No less a political reformer than Governor Rod Blagojevich appointed Duckworth to the post of Illinois Veterans Affairs Director, where she was duly criticized for using state time and vehicles to make political appearances for frequent election victim Dan Seals, another Progressive card-board cut-out. Following some bad press, Tammy Duckworth got hereself a Federal appointment and new opportunities to run against Joe Walsh.
Tammy Duckworth's service deserves respect, but certainly not a place at the Progressive trough that is paid for by tax-payers. God bless her, but don't vote for her,
Bruce Dold's endorsement is a re-play of the Obama ascent to power and a term ending November 6th. The editorial praises Tammy Duckworth because she is not Joe Walsh! Bruce even leads with his patented Axelroding of Tribune enemies -
Then there were the tax liens, the building foreclosure, the suspended drivers license, the court fight over child support … It's too bad, because the Joe Walsh who showed up for our endorsement interview had a lot more to offer than the Joe Walsh whose antics are splashed all over YouTube. In a face-to-face meeting with Duckworth, he was direct, specific, and even charming. Walsh pulled no punches about his views. He embraced the plan offered by Rep. Paul Ryan to restructure Medicare. He said he would not raise taxes, period. He said the long-term fix for Social Security is to "put younger Americans in charge of their retirement income." To achieve lower tax rates overall, he would support eliminating deductions for mortgage interest and charitable donations. Duckworth, by contrast, was noncommittal on some key issues, and largely drew from the Democratic playbook. She said she was not ready to make major changes to either Medicare or Social Security. She would increase taxes for those earning more than $1 million a year. She'd be OK with ending the deduction for second homes and yachts. Duckworth also said she'd cut oil, gas and agribusiness subsidies, and that better supervision of wasteful defense contracts could save $9 million a day. But Walsh is correct when he says those cuts wouldn't dent the deficit. "We have to reform entitlements, period." Where he offered solutions, Duckworth too often offered only a promise to search for one. That all might sound like it's leading up to an endorsement of Walsh but ... it's not. Walsh has been a congressman made for cable television, but not for his constituents. He has fueled the political vitriol that has paralyzed Washington, that nearly shut down the federal government, that has failed to produce meaningful fiscal reform and economic recovery. We saw something in that endorsement interview — what a congressman Joe Walsh might have been. Our endorsement in the 8th Congressional District goes to Duckworth.
Here is the tepid, shuck's she's a wounded vet endorsement -
When we supported Duckworth in a 2006 run for Congress, we said she wasn't politically polished. Unfortunately, she has since become a more-practiced politician. Practiced, that is, in not offering her opposition targets by getting too specific on solutions. We have, though, always admired her character and moxie. She risked her life for her country, and lost both legs when an Iraqi grenade struck her Blackhawk helicopter in 2004. So yes, she's a war hero, though she says that label belongs to the comrades who saved her life. She served as director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs for three years and assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for two. We believe she will draw on all that experience to represent the district well. We hope she will challenge her own party leaders. Duckworth has the capacity to inspire, Walsh tends to antagonize. Duckworth is endorsed.
The Chicago Tribune placed a young inexperienced egoist in the U.S. Senate in 2004 and sky-rocketed that man who America fully saw in contrast to a man of ability for the first time in Denver last week. That performance was a Obama's A -Game, folks. Illinois can not afford another "aint'she great" light-weight in government - We are topped off!
Pat Quinn, Sheila Simon, Jan Schakowsky, Deb Mell, Deb Shore, Mike Quigley, Forrest Claypool, Toni Preckwinkle . . .how they working out for us?
* But Obama wouldn't have been elected to the U.S. Senate, much less president, without a few more sex scandals yet. In the 2004 Illinois Democratic Senate primary, Obama badly trailed multimillionaire Blair Hull for months. He and Michelle agreed that if he lost that race, he was out of politics. Then divorce papers revealed that Hull's wife had accused him of physically assaulting her. (Hull said he didn't want to "relitigate" his divorce.) Obama was already moving in the polls, and he had to fend off other candidates, but after the scandal he surged into the lead and won the primary. At first the general election pitted Obama against GOP Senate nominee Jack Ryan, a popular banker expected by many to win handily. Until, that is, Ryan's wife, TV actress Jeri Ryan, said her husband pressured her to accompany him to sex clubs and have sex in front of strangers. Ryan withdrew from the race and Obama cruised to victory against fringe candidate Alan Keyes. Daily Beast 2009
The septuagenarian PR Maven, Marilyn Katz, graduated from the Weather Underground, where she made 'nail bombs' in 1968 to toss at Police Officers, to Marxist Plutocrat via the Hyde Park Progressive Mensa Chapter ( Abner Mikva, Dr. Quentin Young, Studs Terkel, Dawn Clark Netsch, Barbara Flynn-Curry, Dick Simpson et al,). Regl'r Demacrat Ward cynics accepted the Progressive sunshine blown up their kilts and the wildly tax-wasted lucrative contracts for the likes of Marilyn Katz - politically sanitized, n'cest pas, and our endless cavalcade of Progressive dopes who now swell the ranks of Chicago, Cook County and State of Illinois and Federal elected officials - Forrest Claypool, Joe Moore, Deb Shore, Barack Obama, Pat Quinn. Toni Preckwinkle, Rahm Emanuel, Mike Quigley, the fatigued Jesse Jackson Junior and Illinois' MSNBC Congressional lunatic and Turkish spy Jan Schakowsky. La trahison des images!

The Hyde Park Mafia eclipsed the old Democratic Machine via 'Blue Ribbon' panels, University of Chicago studies, and the three decades long war on our Justice System by the Peoples Law Office and the less-lights of the Lawsuit Lotto Lawyer Coalition.
From Goose Guts to Ganja and Abortion to Ambiguous Marriage. the Illinois Progressive Power is taller than black Willis and more visible than Gangbangers on 79th Street.
Marilyn Katz did the PR work. It's here in bullet points:
We believe public relations is a complex activity.
PR is a broad-based strategic activity that goes far beyond interaction with the media, involving the use of organizational, political, and marketing skills to influence targeted audiences to change behavior or opinions.
We believe in the power of collaboration.
We PR is an integral part of an institution’s organizational strategy, and that PR counsel should help in developing not only marketing campaigns, events and speeches, but also legislative campaigns, program development, community outreach strategies, etc.
We believe every client is unique.
We practice individualized client services that reflect the entirety of our client. Our firm’s work does not begin at the media plan, but at the heart of the organization, garnering an understanding of our client’s goals and objectives and creating an appropriate public relations strategy.
We believe in information.
We think that public relations work is best done when we have more access to information and people, not less. We can serve you most effectively when we are included in the initial stages of planning and decision-making, to effectively create and seize maximum public relations opportunities.
We believe in developing relationships.
Our job as communicators goes beyond issuing news release and organizing events. We position our clients as experts who the media and opinion-makers will call upon to comment on the critical issues of the day. Where appropriate, we aim to involve our clients in relevant emerging public debates that arise in the course of public life.
We believe in conserving and making efficient use of our clients’ resources.
We enhance the value and impact of costly paid media with creative earned media, editorial coverage and direct marketing whenever possible. When we use paid media, we coordinate with direct marketing and free press activities to ensure the greatest leverage for our dollars and the greatest impact for our work.
We believe in communication.
Open, unfettered communication between our firm and our clients is central to success. While we keep track of all hours worked, we prefer a set monthly fee so that client/firm contact is not impeded by concern about the cost of individual contact or projects. ( emphases my own)
This old broad has clients! Name a City, County or State agency and Marilyn Katz draws a "monthly fee so that client/firm contact is not impeded by concern about the cost of individual contact or projects."
"You say, YOU want a Revolution? Sorry. already grabbed."
One of Marilyn's clients* is CeaseFire which just drew a million dollar lump from the City of Chicago. Less than 48 hours after Mayor Rahm announced this Gangbanger 401 K give-away, the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board gave Marilyn a swell perch to PR it up!
Today, the Nail-Bomb Mouthpiece tells all and sundry that Violence in Chicago is bad. Who told you, Marilyn? Pain hurts, I hate it too. Death stings. Murder is homicide. Marilyn handles CeaseFire and also Community Action Policing (CAPS) and other costly sinecures. This is Progressive Slow Pitch:
Marilyn, approaches the mound; grabs the ball with the metaphorical nails knocked into it
-On the surface what we know — from the early, successful days of community policing, from the massive study sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation on decreasing crime and from anti-violence groups like CeaseFire — is that success in reducing crime requires good police practices, the removal of places for crime and the fancy term "collective efficacy," meaning neighbors sharing a set of good values and watching out for one another. It would mean understanding that the police alone will not solve the problem. It would mean empowering and involving ordinary citizens in block clubs, churches and school-parent groups to embrace the community challenge as their own and forbid criminal and violent activities in their households and on the blocks where they live.
Here Comes the wind-up!
It would mean embracing groups like CeaseFire, which with its unorthodox methods has demonstrated that it can interrupt the retaliatory behavior of youth violence and change a culture that too easily uses the death of one's opponent as the way to settle disputes and scores. These steps, however effective in the past, fall short today. We have to take bolder steps.
And now, the Pitch!
Not only should we invest in helping at-risk youths overcome the impediments that discourage them from learning and achieving, we need to assure a path to a sustainable future. While Chicago-based corporate headquarters are nice and make us feel good about our city, we need to create the conditions for manufacturing jobs and other less lofty jobs that are attainable by our youth. We need to encourage small and big businesses to hire inner-city youth — using the many tax credits that are available to businesses that hire the long-term unemployed.
It is our collective responsibility ( You Pay!) to say we are willing and able to connect our young people to a life that puts them — and us — out of harm's way.
Marilynn Katz has once again killed the batters, the catchers, the umpires and the fans is Screamin'!!!!!!!!!
